One of the least surprising "World Exclusive" reveals during last night's Video Game Awards show was the unveiling of Harmonix's next single-band opus, Green Day: Rock Band. In case you missed out on the late-to-the-party announcement, you can check out the debut trailer after the jump. If you don't feel like watching a streaming video at the moment, we'll summarize: It looks a heck of a lot like when you play those Green Day DLC songs on Rock Band 2.
The MTV Games press release that landed in our inbox shortly after the trailer aired contained one particularly interesting piece of news -- unlike The Beatles: Rock Band, all of the tracks in Green Day's outing will be exportable to the core Rock Band games. In addition, all the Green Day DLC released so far for the music platform, as well as the three 21st Century Breakdown tracks that will hit this Tuesday, will be compatible with Green Day: Rock Band. No release date has been given thus far, but the presser specifies that its coming to the Wii, PS3 and 360.

guess I should be happy it's not The Bravery: Rock Band.....now THAT would suck.

So far, I have purchased all the track pack stand alone discs to import into my RB2 collection. This disc will be the only one so far that I will NOT be getting and importing into my collection. Maybe if there was a way to completely delete the vocal tracks of the Green Day songs I would consider getting it.

well, since Sentenced: Rock Band or Savatage: Rock Band will undoubtedly never happen, and this can...
...then maybe there really is hope for Queen: Rock Band :)

wow.. so GD:RB is in the same position GH:VH was in before Activ. decided to give it away free with GH5... would like this copy cat trend to extend into Activision's "Desperate Game Liquidation Strategy" territory.

Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod - count me in. Post 2000 Green Day is a pile of WTF.
Regardless, I, like many others, am done with music games.

Well, at least all those people who were bitching about why they never release their good songs in the RB store know why now.

So they make a Green Day one before a Guns 'N Roses one?
Someone should be fired for that oversight.
I like Green Day as much as anyone, but for crying out loud...I want to play November Rain, Estranged, You Could Be Mine, Welcome to the Jungle, My Michelle and a couple dozen other GnR songs before I'd want to play shit from Dookie.

Didn't Axl Rose say if more people got the Chinese Democracy DLC, hey might be swayed to release some of the older albums for Rock Band. I searched for the Joystiq article I swear I saw last spring, but couldn't find it.
So blame Axl Rose for there not being a GNR:Rock Band anytime soon.
Guess I can't complain, I didn't purchase it. I saved my money for Pearl Jam's Ten a few weeks later.

You're probably right; sounds logical to me. Too bad Axl will act like Axl always does, demand ridiculous things, throw a few tantrums (possibly punching out another paparrazi or two) and it'll probably never happen.
(Granted I haven't listened to *all* of CD but I wasn't impressed with what I've heard of it...not in the grander scheme of things like the old GnR.)
Such a shame that the music of a once-great rock band is at the mercy of a cocky hot-headed dimwit.

I am utterly sickened by this stupid venture. Harmonix should NOT be doing the same shady business as Activision. This is NOT some kind of anti Green Day bitch fest either. Sure… they are a pretty good band. Not as goods as they used to be, but reasonable with at least one good song out from time to time. I hold this game with the same regard as pretty much every other single band music game that has come out. The ONLY one I understand is the Beatles and its because they are a HUGE iconic band. Like them or not (and I personally hate them) they are big enough to support a music game on their own. Green Day, Metallica, Van Halen … some of these are big names but not enough for their own game. Whats the point? to have avatars that look like the band? who fucking cares? who even watches the animation while they are playing anyway?
I am pissed at HMX for beginning their decent down the hellish road that activision has been running full speed on for the last 2 years.
We DO NOT need more disks, just more songs.

Depends on the track list and price. If I can export tracks from Kerplunk! through Nimrod to play in Rock Band 2 I'll buy it. Won't pay $60 though, because prices for these music games always come down quickly.
I too grew up with Green Day, and was completely obsessed with them for my teenage years. I even bought and liked American Idiot a few years ago, but I'm getting sick of their "new image" which is just pandering to America's youth while simultaneously mocking them. These guys have gotten too jaded, and I don't think it's about the music for them anymore. They just want to make money and probably hate most of their fans. =(

This reminds me of when Fonzie jumped over that shark on Happy Days. There should be a term for that.

I love Green Day and I certainly do love Rock Band. I am exited about this project, but there is something that those videogame graphics are missing. I didn't feel the Rock rush when I saw the Green Day virtual band. IF they only made Rock Band with real live videos, then it would be awesome.
Regardless, props to Harmonix and Green Day

they're a good band and all...but i don't think their songs are really worthy of a full game to themselves, they're pretty much known for catchy, but repetitive 5 chord punk.

I was going to pissed that harmonix is doing the same stupid thing as activision, but then I realized that all they're basically doing is selling song packs on disk, and including the software to play them as well. If you already have software to play them, bully! Export to the game you already have.

Hahaha i enjoy how the character animations give it no emotion what-so-ever while playing, as though they know they're portraying Green Day, and are dying inside.

Just to clear something out bout people saying thta green day arent punk. Well they are classed as pop punk which is a happy version of punk. i say that they are trying to attract a younger audience. and as people say that there should be old bands like the rolling stones or U2, well i don't know on person who like those bands at any school.Maybe the one or two but not many. And if green day suck now after the last two albums how come American Idiot has been turned into a musical that was sold out then it got extended then it sold out again. Now it is going to broadway. and one question why do people who dont like green day put there fans down. Are you jealous.

also if you hate them why did you open this web page and then take the time to comment. Cause that just sound stupid and a waste of time.

I think it's great that Green Day is getting there own game i think they deserve it. For people who smash there music i challenge you to create and album that sells millions world wide, once you've done that then tell me that they suck. for every critic there is a die hard fan. I would also agree that bands like U2 should start a rockband game to i would love to play and sing along to some of there tunes as well but Green Day is my favorite band and i'm, not gonna sit around while you trash them. if you don't like there music don't listen to it and if you don't like the game don't buy it. that's all i have to say. :D
