We're just not sure if we can get behind the aesthetic of the Yager-developed, 2K-published shooter Spec Ops: The Line which was officially revealed during last night's Spike Video Game Awards. It just looks way too gritty for us.
Now that we've gotten that pun we've been wanting to make since we first saw the game last night out of the way, we can tell you that the debut trailer is posted after the jump. Despite our irreverent panning during last night's festivities, it doesn't look half bad. According to the last screen of the trailer, it's coming to 360, PS3 and PC. Check out the video if you're a fan of sandy environments, ruined landscapes, female vocalists and egregious violations of the Geneva convention.
Update: We've added a hi-res version of the trailer above.
I agree, this game looks A'Ma'Zinnnnn. From what it looks like, it does seem that its Gameplay with the terrian getting blown away...simply cool idea (on paper, fighting in desert, i would have said forget it don't show me any of it,, ) but after watching this video, its a really impressive to watch and with the fighting going in and out of buildings and fighting in the sand I don't think it will get OLD... not at all.
Heres hoping the Multiplayer is just as good as this game visually looks...
No More Heroes 2, Dantes Inferno, God of War 3, Heavy Rain, Mass Effect 2 (I know it has shooting elements but it's an RPG at heart)
There are plenty of non-shooter games coming out. By the way, this clearly ISN'T a Halo/MW clone because it uses third person view and a cover system, which neither of those games use.
amazing trailer. best of the night imo. biggest surprise too. it was just super epic. great music. huge environments and buildings. massive sand storms. loving the 3rd person perspective too. there's been too many generic fps military games lately.
Yeah. I guess I can see, cause it looks like a straight mash-up of gears and mwf, but it still looks well above average to me. There's a big difference between unoriginal and average. Killzone 2 is a great example! Unoriginal as hell, but as long as you could take the controls, definitely an above average game.
Exactly. I'm annoyed with the idea that just because something is unoriginal it's bad or not worth playing. If this game takes the best of whatever it's taking ideas from, and improves upon them, then we'll have a great game. Doesn't matter if it's been done before if they do it better this time.
agreed. so long as the key mechanics are properly implemented into the game and they do a solid job on the overall production then originality doesn't matter much to me. it just needs to be fun. of course if there is some originality thrown in somewhere it can definitely make the game better so long as it's properly executed, but if there's not then oh well... most things regarding gameplay and modern day controls have been done by now anyways. hopefully this game turns out to be as good as this trailer looks.
i don't understand some people, this trailer looks amazing to me. if the actual game retains the HUD-less view in the trailer, i'd be mighty impressed, very minimalistic and it seems to emphasize the size and scope of what you're looking at.
plus, the guy hanging, the music, etc. all seem to add this darker side to the game that i really hope will be a crucial part of it. it's coming from 2K so maybe it will have some of that twisted vibe that made bioshock so interesting.
Looks ok, but the 3rd person action looks too, how do I put this, Blocky. A shooter like this deserves the Naughty Dog engine 2. After playing u2, any third person game looks like it will play
It looks kind of generic, but I'll reserve judgement until we got more info. I'll admit that I'm interested based on the pedigree alone, so I look forward to learning more.
Why is there an American flag? Are Americans so insecure that they have to shove their patriotic garbage even in games? Let me guess the Americans are there to "help" the people and not take their oil.
