Sega and Rebellion won't release a "sanitized" Aliens vs. Predator for the Australian market, but it appears the companies are at least going to try and appeal the government's decision to "ban" the game. Refused Classification noted over the weekend that the classification board will hold a review of AvP's status this Friday, December 18.
The most recent high-profile game to attempt an appeal with the Aussie ratings board was Valve's Left 4 Dead 2 -- it failed. However, an edited version of the zombie apocalypse survival trainer was released in the region. We've contacted Sega for comment on the matter.

Considering we have some of the best standards of living in the world, a functioning healthcare system, low poverty rates... if you lived here and moved somewhere else just for videogames, you'd be a bit of a smacktard.

Why don't they just make it like Mortal Kombat for the SNES, and give it sweat instead of blood?

Actually...they could make it like Arcade Mode in CoD4, with the tires that spill out when you kill someone.

Australia has to be one of the worst places for gaming. The country's gamers get shafted with release dates that are usually pushed way back behind the other regions and the government has refused classification for several games and will continue to do so.

Editing a zombie's limbs being shot/hacked off is one thing, but to try and edit someone's chest being ripped open from the inside by an alien?
Good luck with all that. It probably be for the best if it's just not released there if they don't win the appeal.

I live in south australia.Dont really care if they release it in australia or not. Never really planned on getting AvP, until i heard that it wont be released here.
Now im going to import the game as my way of shitting on Michael Atkinson and his narrow minded views on gaming.

I doubt they'll get it classified. This is a "SEE, GAMES ARE EVIL!" hot topic for censorship loving idiots who think they and they alone have the right to tell millions exactly how they should live their lives, regardless of those people's own opinions.
I just did a 7 page paper on how some of that country's leaders desperately want mandatory internet censorship, and every time I see a game get banned I get more worried for the people in Australia that may be subjected to even worse later on.

Actually, there may be a change for Australia's classification system. Hopefully sometime soon. The Australian government has _just_ released a public discussion paper. Aussies everywhere, please submit your comment on this, and please be polite about it. It does more harm than good if you go off your nut about it.

Thanks for the link Dave. Hopefully plenty of Aussies get on board and write up a decent letter eventually getting what adult gamers deserve; an R18+ rating.
Good on Rebellion for standing their ground on not wanting to release a 'sanitized' version of the game. And after looking at the differences between uncut LFD2 and the version we got, i can see why they won't.
But in any case, i'll be importing it from overseas if it won't get released here uncut. lol

The funny thing is, isn't the violence in this game between Aliens and Predators, both of which are extra terrestrials? So this would be fantasy violence and not real violence, because these things don't exist.
Do they expect people to become aliens now to emulate fake stuff?
