Maybe they should worry about the first one before releasing it, Maybe try making it less of a burden on the gaming populace.

They've already soiled a masterpiece, how about dirtying up that Mark Twain? I read he liked to behead critics with a scythe.

For the sequel, Dante needs to team up with Jesus to create a dynamic action duo and kick Saddam's ass.

And then, they take down the Commies and discover America, God's country.

I call this game....Hard Judgment!

Music includes the greatness of Rush and Cheap Trick.

HARD JUDGMENT!............an EA joint.

Good. Now that South Park has already done it, EA has somebody to copy the idea from. CONFIRMED! :D

Just a note: It's not gonna matter if this game sells three million or three hundred. There will always be that one YouTube commenter who says "best gaem evar!!!1", and that will be enough to coerce EA to spend another seven million dollars on Dante's Purgatorio. Repeat the process again, and you have Dante's Paradiso. How they'll make a hack-and-slash out of THAT book, I'll never know.

I think the problem is, by trying (yes, they tried. At least they kept the nine layers of Hell categorized correctly) to be faithful to the book, they forgot that they might actually be able to make a sequel for the game. Once they've killed Lucifer, there's not much else to go through. They can't kill anybody in Purgatory because there's nobody there. The final boss in Paradise would have to be God, but that's already the plot twist in my idea for a Divine Comedy game series.

I can't wait until somebody at EA decides to turn "Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl" into a Nazi shooter.

Probably should of mentioned this guy works on God of war. He also showed up digital foundry recently on their bullshit article about the PS3's version of AA on the Saboteur.

i'd bet money that the vast majority of people complaining about this game ruining a "literary masterpiece" have never even bothered to read it, joystiq staffers included.

I have (at least part of it), and I am inclined to agree with the 'Stiq: this Dante-is-badass thing is bullshit.

Yeah, the Dante is badass thing is pretty retarded. Paradise Lost would have made a WAY better game and you would have played as Lucifer.

@David

I agree. I can't believe how many people are ripping on this game. The majority of the complaints (mainly by staff) are the same things in GOW.

Whatever, I'm stoked for it and I can't wait to pick it up.

I have the Divine Comedy resting comfortably on my book shelf, well worn from reading. So speak for yourself.

But lets say I hadn't read it 6 or 7 times, would that bar me from complaining about a literary icon being blemished by a hack and slash video game? The issue isn't even that it's being made into a game, the issue is it's a completely moronic game style for a book that could very well be made into a spectacular game if the lowest common denominator dolts at EA weren't in control.

Hmm, well I enjoyed God of War, so the fact that people are saying that it plays exactly the same makes me feel more confident in putting down some money to play it. Having no moral compass means more games for me :)

god the fanboys are out tonite!

I for one have read the divine comedy. well the first 2 parts atleast, but even with that. I'm not really that bothered they're changing the story. It wouldn't be that fun if you're dante and you have a guide showing you around the 7 circles of hell like the book. Hell its not like GoW is very true to greek mythology.

Now what would be fun is going through these circles of hell and battling with some of the most historical figures and biblical figures that almost everybody knows of.

Too bad the game is set back in the times of The Crusades, because I wanted to see Curt Kobain as a tree with harpies tearing him apart for all eternity... i kidd, i kidd.

I thought the demo wasn't that bad. I mean how much did you expect to have in the demo? It does say 'Gates of Hell' demo. Its not like the game was going to take you to the 4th circle or something. The cross is a very good addition to the game. I was using it maybe 1 out of every 3 times to keep my combo up. Makes it easier to throw the cross out and then preform a different scythe combo. And I can't wait to see what kind of combo's this game will have. Overall, the demo wasn't that bad and makes me want to play the game even more when it comes out. And even if its a GoW clone or a DMC clone. These are some great games. And if EA is making a game about going to Hell to kill demons then Satan himself and using GoW and DMC as influences. Then it can't go wrong.

I don't remember hearing people bitching about Gears about being just a RE4 clone because they used the over the shoulder view.

Gears was new and innovative because it's the first (to my knowledge) third person, cover based shooter of it's kind. It's also in a completely different genre from RE4.

However, people did make the comparison of RE4 and Dead Space. Before Dead Space was released, and even after the demo was out, people just said it was "resident evil in space", because for the most part, it "ripped off" RE4's mechanics.

Of course, people loved Dead Space anyways.

I've got a simple solution for Visceral, just wait until Sony releases God of War III then copy everything they do, after Mount Olympus is akin to Heaven right?

That's the point I've been trying to make the whole time really. My ps2 broke before the first god of war came out. Since then I have not got another sony console. I've played GoW 1 & 2 but never have been able to enjoy a full play through so Dante's Inferno has me excited.

If this game is as similar to good of war, why do some people who love the God of War series hate this ? Exact same experience, in a awesome setting and the best graphics (So far)
Im not saying it's the exact same experience myself, but the one's im referring to are.
Then i guess you also should stay away from God of War III. Im pretty sure it's going to be even more similar to the first games in the series...

Me personally, i am looking forward to both games.

Everyone who said Dante's Inferno copy'd God of War is right. Because Dante's Divine Comedy is totally not what, a 700 year old piece of literature?

Game Directors always read up on different story's, poems, etc.. for idea's. Just because God of War came out first doesn't mean shit. And I have play'd the demo and its better than God of war.
