North American Wii owners, the wait may soon be over. After years of patient, patient waiting -- and watching the game land on both the European and Japanese Virtual Console -- the original Smash Bros. should soon be winging its way to American Wiis. The evidence: The game has been rated for Wii by the ESRB, hopefully signifying that a release is imminent. In case you were wondering, the game received an E rating, ostensibly making it suitable for everyone.
We'll just have to wait and see how Grandma takes it when she gets a Star Rod to the dome.

Come on, Joystiq. There was no SuperScope in the original Smash Brothers.

This is great news...for anyone who doesn't have a homebrew-enabled Wii. Meanwhile, the rest of us have been enjoying it on our Wii64 emulators for quite some time now. Of course, we're all "dirty pirates", right? Oh well.

I still don't understand why this didn't come out before Brawl.
If there's one thing Brawl was missing, it was hype.

It should have come out before Brawl, because then the people that couldn't wait for Brawl (e.g. me) would have been more tempted to get the N64 version while waiting. But now...? I'd rather go back to playing Brawl, which I haven't done in a few months, than get the first one. But that's just me.

It's been rated by the ESRB, which is a good sign, but so has Earthbound. At this rate, the game will not be released until 2015 at least.
