It's unclear just how it happened, but this week's Fancast clocks in at almost two hours. It took a long time. Time that we could have spent writing about games. But, you demand podcast goodness and we must oblige, so prepare for a mountain of emails about underage gaming, the Japanese game industry, delicious dessert islands and more. We also take some time to discuss the NPD numbers and, of course, Starship Troopers.

The iTunes problem is in the URL. The filename is ending with ".mp3.mp3" and it's messing the download up.

Seriously, what happened in Akira? I watched it after hearing SO much about it, but I found the story incredibly disjointed. The art style and attention to detail was incredibly awesome, though.

no one knows, but everyone who's seen it pretends they know so they don't look silly.
I think the basic plot is that a kid called Akira is found to have super human powers, he's taken in by the military for experiments where they try to find a way to use his powers for military purposes. The kid from the biker gang (Tetsuo) gets mixed up in an experiment and gets given the powers. Because he's kinda got a complex from being looked down on in the gang, he ends up going a little on the crazy side, so Kaneda has to take his ass down with a Spartan Laser.
There's some sub plot stuff too and some trippy stuff that shows the development of Tetsuo's powers. All in all, flipping awesome and crazy. First time I saw it, it was late in the night and had watched Labyrinth before hand so made for an extra trippy viewing.

On the whole second hand game thing, I tend to pick up games that I wasn't too bothered by at launch second hand, when they've dropped to £10, I recently got Alone in the Dark for that price, seems much more worth it at that price, the flaws kinda don't matter.
I also tried to get a second copy of ODST for system link purposes, last week and Blockbuster was selling it new for $24.99 and used for £24.95. That's 4p difference, the guys at the counter where equally perplexed but said that there wasn't anything they could do. Seems Blockbuster don't care so much about their second hand stuff. I didn't bother getting it in the end.

I FINALLY KNOW WHAT GFWLGOD IS FOR! People who play mainly on the Xbox, and want to get achievements on the PC, also. An achievement whore's heaven, especially the free, 200 Gamerscore carrying, Tinker. It actually is a really great game and you guys should try it. Download the GFWL client and DL the game for free. Hope you guys try it and I would love to hear what you think of my theory. Love you guys.

I noticed you guys complained a lot about Gamestop. I agree with you that they generally suck and their prices for used games are way too high. That's why I haven't shopped there for years. My question is, if you guys hate Gamestop so much, why do you continue to shop there? I know Alex said he doesn't normally, but what about Richard and Dave?
Bestbuy or even Target will have all the new releases, and like Dave, I buy most of my games from Amazon. Can't beat the free shipping and no tax, and they will often have a discount on most games within a month of release. Dave for as much as you say you shop on Amazon, why bother going into a Gamestop at all?
Not trying to offend, just curious.
