One of these box arts is not like the others. Yep, you'll notice that the Xbox 360 version of Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing has two added bonuses: Banjo and Kazooie. At first, we were quick to dismiss the image as nothing more than a fan mock-up. However, TSSZ discovered that all of these box arts can be seen on Sega's server (Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii).
If the addition of Banjo and Kazooie to Sega's kart racer sounds familiar, it's because it was part of a Sega leak earlier this year that contemplated this exact partnership. Revisiting the supposedly leaked Sega document reveals a number of bullet points that have already come true: the PS3 price drop, Alpha Protocol's delay and Yakuza's localization. The addition of Banjo & Kazooie to the Sonic racer is a nice bonus; however, should other aspects of the Sega document come true, it could mean PS2 and Dreamcast games are coming to PSN.

PS2 and Dreamcast games could be huge! Although I have a 60 gig PS3 so the ps2 games don't really matter to me.

If they put some of the harder to find titles on PSN, then it would be worth it, but until then I'd stick with the original hardware.
That listing says that other Sony characters may be included. Jak and Daxter, anyone?

No, the listing says Ratchet and Clank would be exempt from any deal.

1.2 GB, yes. That was the largest a GD-ROM could be.

Microsoft owns Rare, so Banjo and Kazooie will be exclusive.

I believe that the whole leak was real, and I expect PS2 and Dreamcast games to be released Summer 2010 after an E3 announcement.

Letting the PS3 models that cannot play PS2 games able to download the games off the PSN store and play them would be great, but also worrying. With the game industry wanting to go to digital distribution, mainly to fill up their pockets more. What if one reason Sony removed PS2 BC from the PS3 was so they and they only could sell you the games online, and with it, never able to rent nor sell the games, or buy a much cheaper retail copy off a bargain bin?

I believe their main reasoning was A: Cut costs for PS3 manufacturing and B: Continue to sell PS2 hardware, which is still bringing in a good deal of money, I'd suspect.

Yes, those are valid reasons which I've first suspected. I'm just wondering now if another reason was for them to extend the strategy akin to their PSPGo. Your seeing everyone move towards digital distribution, but so far, its helping the fat cats but not so much the customers.
Or, if they release this service for the PS3, will it come as a firmware update, as an emulator that will also allow you to use your PS2 physical games as well? Not being able to do that would be a very douche move.

I would hope they'd get it as a firmware update that allowed both. We know they can emulate the Emotion Engine, so the Graphics Synthesizer shouldn't be far behind. They would make money from both digital and retail sales, so I really hope they allow both.

I guess we'd have to see PS2 games for sale on PSN before we can make that conclusion. I don't think it's anything sinister so much as it's just a growing facet of their business. People weren't buying the BC models when they were available so Sony removed the features to cut costs. Selling the PS2 games on PSN is a way for consumers of a non BC PS3 to play those games. It's not like you can't find a fully or partially BC PS3 to this day for a reasonable price. I just sort of doubt that they removed it so they could specifically sell the games on PSN at later time. Maybe thats naive of me to think that way but I still think they're probably having to emulate games specifically and you won't see massive amounts of PS2 games on PSN. You'll see some of the more popular titles and thats probably it.

Maybe the reason Sony didn't was because everyone already has a PS2. Or am I wrong? Only basing this on the fact that it's the best-selling system of all time.

It's really not as sinister as you put it. Only the hardcore sony fans were the ones willing to spend $600 on a ps3 with BC. The vast majority of people would rather pay less for a PS3 and keep their PS2. I just bought a PS2 for $20, and I'm much happier with that than I would have been buying a BC ps3 for $400. Nintendo and Microsoft have both offered games from previous generations through digital distribution, and I don't think it's a bad thing. Both are fairly priced, and people can always go out and buy the last generation hardware and games. Adding PS2 games to the PSN would only expand the market.

Mainly to fill up their pockets more? Of all the complaints that can be made against Sony this generation I don't think pocket filling is a very well aimed one. So far Sony has mostly emptied their pockets this generation. It is a little sad that Sony isn't rewarded more for allowing standard hardware to be used with the PS3 instead of the add-on monopoly Microsoft is still (ab)using.

There needs to be Conker, one of the Battletoads, Fulgore, and Joanna Dark, and this would be a must buy for the nostalgia!
