Christmas Light Hero brings rhythm to the holidays
52
You gotta hand it to this kid's parents, who managed to turn up their boring old Christmas lights to 11 and into quite the Guitar Hero homage. It's not the first time we've seen Activision's franchise mix it up with some Christmas lights, but it's certainly the most unique and inspired. We've embedded the video past the break so put on your favorite Rudolph sweater (the good one with the blinking nose you keep in the back of the closet), pour yourself a hot cup of cocoa and give it a watch.

Its a really neat light show, i could never figure out how people do such amazing work with their light shows..
Good song too, one of the only ones from guitar hero 3 that don't feel like an ad for the band.

pretty awesome, though i'm wondering why they didn't just do one recording instead of several from different camera angles to get different shots. I'm assuming he was playing on Easy mode, but then again, I'll give him credit for playing Guitar Hero outside in December.

...except for the fact that the kid didn't do anything.

Yeah, this was on HMB's site yesterday, and I don't know why people are calling it bad ass. I watched maybe 20 seconds until the kid puts on the shades and starts strumming the plastic bar. I then think to myself hey, this isn't a real instrument and turned it off. Maybe he does backflips while picking up hot chicks and killing zombies half way through, but I guess I'll never know.

Hahaha, I know, right man! This kid needs to learn to get some talent!
Maybe instead of playing on a plastic instrument he should learn some music theory so he can make programs to sync correctly to music.
Or maybe he should learn how to program itself, so again, he can sync music to lights.
Or maybe he should go work on his artistic abilities, so he'll be able to intricately place lights in a cohesive design that spans all across his house.
GOD GO DO SOMETHING WITH YOUR LIFE KID! I gave you three suggestions, any ONE of them will do!

How do we know the lights aren't just going along in their predetermined sequence? I feel like this kid is just hitting the buttons on the guitar, but the lights will continue on their way without regard to what buttons he's pressing.

That's most likely the case. If you were to play anything other than Cliffs of Dover, the light show wouldn't match up at all. However, it's still pretty awesome that they thought of that and were able to put everything together to make it all work.

Jeez that notecharting for Cliffs of Dover is way off. What the heck. PLUS he was on Easy. Learn to play, noob.

really considering he was playing of a wall and the notes would have been programmed into the lights beforehand id like to see you code the entire hard/expert notechart into a strip of lights and still be able to interpret WTF is going on (3 sets before you play aint very helpful) and considering he was actually playing the game i think you can lighten up

Hm, with only three tracks that looks more like Tap Tap Revenge than Guitar Hero...

I wonder if any of those passers-by called child services, "Yeaaah... There's some nutjob making his kid play Guitar Hero out in the cold, in the middle of the night, someone should come out here."
Cool viral marketing... Wonder how long until Neversoft/Activision come out to admit it (Bike Hero, anyone?).

Obviously he had the song programmed into a micro-controller first. He did actually play the song, clearly, and they synced the start of the songs together. That may have taken a few tries to get right, but I'm sure it was done that way, otherwise the TV wouldn't have been there.

While I agree that it's probably the way you suggested, it could be that the TV was there solely because he needed to be able to navigate the menus to get the song started. Additionally, it could have been a computer monitor (though it looked like a tube set) and this whole thing really was synced up to a hacked computer version which output to the lights controller (doing the light timing would have been easier on a GUI system than a microcontroller) and the Wii guitar was synced over bluetooth to the computer. Hypothetical I know, but that would have been even more badass.
