I like both companies but I hope Interplay gets some big bucks when this is over.

It's weird when an IP that's this big is not legally owned by either company.

Well, I hope Interplay can continue this Fallout MMO project, I'd love to see how it turns out.

I was a big fan of Interplay back in the day, but this smells like Interplay selling the rights to Fallout then wanting to cash in on Bethesda's success with Fallout 3. Reminds me of Activision deciding to sue Double Fine and EA when it started to look like Brutal Legend would be a hit.

This is sort of the impression I get. I don't know who is *really* in the right here, but Interplay comes off looking guilty to me.

No actually Interplay sold the rights to Fallout to Bethesda for X number of years, while retaining the rights to finish any Fallout projects they were currently planning/working on ,IE the MMO, as well as selling the Fallout games they have already made. Bethesda turned around after the fact and filed suit to make them stop working on the MMO and stop selling their back catalog because they claimed that they would confuse customers.

The original Fallout devs are making New Vegas for Bethesda. I can't wrap my head around the morons that defend Interplay, a company that's nothing but an empty shell.

No, the original Fallout devs are not Obsidian. They formed Troika and now spread around the industry.

One is working on an MMO (Tim Cain). Another is working on Diablo 3 (Leon Boyardsky). Another was the lead on Interplay's Fallout MMO but is now working on a sequel to Wasteland with Brian Fargo (Jason Anderson).

A few of the guys who worked on Fallout 2 work at Obsidian. Still looking forward to New Vegas, though.

"Tortious Interference with Prospective Economic Advantage"

Is that a Fallout: New Vegas perk? What, the post is about legal stuff? Pssh!

Interplay: Well, I doubt that Fallout will ever be relevant again. Anyone else want this?
Bethesda: Can we take a crack at it? We're real good friends with the original developers anyway.
Interplay: Ok sure. Least we can make some cash off this

*1 year, tons of awards, and critical acclaim later*

Interplay: .....fuck....

No, InterPlay's project was in the works before they sold the franchise to Bethesda. The contract clearly said the sale did not cover any MMO project.

I just hope Interplay doesn't ruin their Fallout MMO project. A game is only good when created by a certain team of people. The project will fail or maybe succeed if its taken by a different group.
