Nintendo trademarks Bii, Cii, Oii, Yii and Zii

The internet is running rampant with speculation that Nintendo is working on a follow-up to its current home console, tentatively dubbed "Zii." Siliconera discovered a Japanese trademark for the Zii, and many wondered if this was the official name for the fabled Wii HD.

Conspiracy theorists will want to settle down, though. Our friends at Engadget discovered that the Zii trademark request is simply a renewal of a 2006 request. In fact, in addition to the Zii, Nintendo has applied for trademarks covering Bii, Cii, Oii, and Yii. Unless Nintendo is planning on making five new consoles, each with a different name, it seems as though the company is just covering its bases.

i think they're just copywriting those names so people dont make a console like the wii with one of those names.. sounds pretty stupid to name the next wii nearly the same should call it the 'poo' or something completely different like gamecube to wii

Bii - Blue Wii, Yii - Yellow, Oii - Orange, and Cii well I can't really think of a colour, but you get the damn idea by now!

Unfortunately Eii was already trademarked by Henry Winkler.

I think an interesting name for Nintendo's next console would be "Duu" (rhymes with "do"). Not only does it stay three letters long with similarly quirky spelling, it's very similar to "duo" or "double", and even rhymes with "two", fitting for the sequel to the Wii. It would also enable some really *ahem* unique advertising taglines.

I can see it now:

"Introducing Duu™, from Nintendo. Wii was the first step in the revolution, get ready for number 2."

or alternately,

"Are you ready for number 2?"
