As rumored last week, LittleBigPlanet will receive a massive chunk of DLC just before Christmas -- the "Pirates of the Caribbean Premium Level Kit." This pack includes the highly anticipated Water update, along with the tools Sackboy will need to navigate said fluids (scuba tanks, air ducts and the like). In addition, the pack includes five pre-made Pirates-themed levels, four new audio tracks, a new background, a free "Cannibal" costume, and a whole mess of decorations, stickers and materials to collect.
The pack will land on the PSN alongside a six-pack of Pirates costumes, which include Jack Sparrow, Davy Jones, Will Turner and other characters from the movie, on December 22 for $5.99 each. Check out the pack's aquatic, buccaneering offerings in the trailer above.
[Thanks, Casder.]

Who decided that three days before Christmas was a good time for this? I'm all for DLC for this great game, but everybody's going to be busy playing their new games!
Though, I suppose it's better than releasing it during the 2010 Spring Game Explosion.

Well, considering many kids will be getting a new PS3 and LBP:GOTY edition, I think it's a good time.

This looks so good. Definitely getting this. The water looks great! And knowing the community's creativity we'll be seeing some really cool implementations in the future.

Its been in beta testing for quite awhile. Seems foolish to hold off on the GOTY edition until xmas week for just this one pack. It would have had zero time to make any sales before Christmas. Besides it comes with the MGS pack already which is excellent.

Oh man, this sounds so much better than the underwhelming MGS pack. Didn't really like that much.
It would be sweet if they added in the Pirates theme, that would be really cool. No harm done if they don't though, Captain Sack Sparrow looks really cute *AHEM* I mean cool.

I think it's bullshit how they separate the costume pack from it though. I guess I'll just spring for Davy Jones and Jack Sparrow.

Is it $5.99 for each character or the character pack?

for the whole character pack. 1.99 for each character. That's how all the other character/character packs have been priced.

LBP is an entirely different league from New SMB. One is pushing the genre forward, the other is chaining it down to it's old constructs and tiding you in with nostalgia.
LBP > NSMB. Not saying NSMB is bad... just old and tired feeling.

Like the paintball gun, it's "officially" only available in the set
But someone will toss it into a user made level and folks can get it there.

With all my 2d plataforming water experience ... i have to ask .... how the gameplay will work ? mario/baloon fight ? shmup freeway ? sonic rock (less likely because of trailer) ?
And talking about sonic .... PLEASE GOD tell me that they didn't put an air/breathing system !
The sonic water levels were (next to the angry sun in mario) the real start of the survival horror genre =P
