It was supposed to be a joke. The man talking in the video sounds like a man from History Channel, and combined with the video game, I tried to joke about it being a History Channel game.

This trailer definitely put this game on my must buy list all of a sudden. Too many games, I'm gonna end up renting quite a few that I originally planned on buying.

No.

Jon Bovi. From SNL. They sing "Not Wanted Alive and Dead."

Opposite of Bon Jovi. That's why I said it.

Agreed. After the disaster of GTAIV, I had pretty much thrown off any Rockstar game from my radar. This, however, looks pretty damn awesome. Hopefully it's not just a really amazing world that covers up a really thin plot line).

I'd hardly consider GTA IV a disaster. A bit of a let down compared to previous games? In some ways yes, in others no.

GTAIV was far from a disaster, just set in a realistic world. I think most people compare it to San Andreas which had you doing all kinds of insanity!

You ever hear that taste is subjective? Just because you didn't care for it doesn't mean it's shit. Plenty of people, including myself, thought it was a great game. Then again, I tend not to listen to hype about games as it sets you up for a major letdown.

Why couldn't you finish the campaign? I didn't think the game was particularly hard.

You should give Lost & the Damned a playthrough. It's fun.

@amart: My post was only meant to be an opinion.

@Popephoenix: The only other GTA game I've played was Vice City and that game was awesome! GTAIV felt way too serious from what it was coming from, and the lack of interesting things to do in single player mode was really depressing... Even rampaging was boring! I will admit, though, some of the multiplayer modes were pretty fun. Running around the city with a bunch of other people trying to kill each other was neat-o.

I also don't like that Rockstar believes realistic people = ugly people. This bugged me even in the RDR trailer.

I agree as well that GTA IV was a let down. So much hype then a game that was just meh. Vice City was the best IMO. This game looks very promising, the graphics are drop dead gourgeous. It reminds me of the first time I saw the Source engine in action.

If GTA4 was a "disaster" then you must have insanely high expectations for games. It may be worse than other GTA's like San Andreas but thats still far from being a disaster.

GTA IV is the first GTA game that I haven't finished either.
Not because it is hard but because it just wasn't as fun as the others.
I lost interest after a little bit and moved on.

It honestly felt like a step backwards after San Andreas.
I loved the customizable attitude that game had.

Just to throw one more opinion into the ring, I personally felt that GTA IV's biggest downfalls weren't the things that were different from previous GTAs, but the things that were the same. To me, they created much more deep and complex characters, gave them a deeper, more complex storyline, put them into a beautifully realistic world...but kept the goofy, juvenile humor in the store names and radio chatter. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with the goofier shit that R* does, and I actually liked it in previous GTAs, but the NY-inspired Liberty City felt so much like a real place that those fairly silly elements just felt completely incongruous, and often pulled me out of the experience, rather than drawing me further in. I still felt the game was pretty well a masterpiece, but I wish they had either made it all ridiculous or all serious. It just (to me) sometimes felt like Nico was a grown-up in a universe designed by a 7th-grader.

On topic - RDR looks friggin' incredible, and like a must-buy.

GTA4? Not so good. Lost and the Damned and Ballad of Gay Tony? Fantastic.

GTA4's story was too long for its own good, it introduced completely inconsequential characters only for them to be killed for no good reason or disappear without reason. A lot of the story was only there to pad the game's playtime. L&D and BOGT had nice, succinct story arcs that got to the point and never dragged.

GTA4 wasn't a letdown because it could not go anywhere. Simply they made an amazing world that is so alive. The only issue was that the GTA series has run it's course, the iteration on the DS was the best for me, fun and engaging. With that said, Rockstar has shown you can build great charcters and great worlds, i feel like GTA4 was a practie session for them to build Red Dead Redemption. Yes a western is a risk, but if anyone can do it, it's them and MY WORD, there is how you do it.

I'm not trying to offend, just trying to understand and I won't get an honest answer if I'm afraid to ask a tough question: I found that most people that haven't even attempted to play San Andreas and love Vice City are white or is that just me? If that is true, or even if it isn't true, what stopped people from playing what was arguably the best game of the GTA series.

Personally I have a soft spot for GTA:IV in regard to the story. IV didn't have as much to do as GTA:SA, but don't find features as important as much as what a game is saying. R* made huge statements about modern American culture, trying to find meaning in what the American Dream is today. And I find that GTA:SA was just as relevant in that department.

I thought both were bloody brilliant and I'm trying to understand what is up with the hate of the both of them. Is it because both IV and SA don't have traditional characters while Vice City does? I don't get it.

GTA:SA is typically lauded as the last traditional GTA that people had grown accustomed to. However, the main gripe people had is that there was way too much and it got a little weird at points (The hippie/government portion). That and it seemed almost too big at times if you were to get stranded out in the middle of the country.

I agree with the criticism. What I'm trying to figure out why certain people never even attempted to play SA or IV, and why those same people were so ready to play Vice City.

Hopefully the framerate's better in the final product than in that video.

A lot of trailers have inconsistent framerates, for some reason. I'm not sure why. It usually doesn't mean the game will.

No, I waited until the video was fully queued before I played it. The non-gameplay sequences were fine, but anything that was gameplay footage looked like it was missing frames.

It's a viddler issue. Go watch it on the official site and you'll see it's a problem with viddler not the game. Same thing happened with the BF:BC2 trailer they had a few weeks back.

Can't wait to find out what the lead dev platform is! And the amount of content in here looks amazing. Normally R* does this by maintaining not-cutting edge graphics- but this def looks better than GTA4. Also- I wonder if you truly will need to ride everywhere or if you can teleport. I hope for the former for a more real sense of being out in the WWW.

Teleporting was what killed Fallout 3 for me. It totally ruined the immersion.

In the trailer they mentioned random events that can happen upon your character at any time. Going on that, it seems to me that Rockstar is trying to make travel between locations more interesting. It seems unlikely that they would throw in a teleport feature. Although perhaps you will be able hire a stagecoach diver to cart your rich ass around (and perhaps get attacked by bandits in the process!)
