Though SingStar may not possess the massive community base of Guitar Hero and Rock Band, Sony recently unveiled a PS3 application which offers a great deal of social networking capabilities to the karaoke game's players. Titled SingStar Viewer, the app (which appears under the Games folder of the XMB) allows users to browse and purchase songs from the SingStore, as well as view and vote on videos, photos and profiles uploaded by members of the MySingStarOnline community. This impressive functionality is totally free, and accessible even when the SingStar disc is absent from the PS3's drive.
The PlayStation.Blog post, which announced the software, didn't give a firm release date for the app, but suggested you "check the PlayStation Store over the coming weeks." Check out the video after the jump to get a brief demo of the services offered by the application. Then wonder if you're confident enough in your karaoke chops to place videos of you and your friends singing in front of the cruel, cruel internet.
I think Sony should use this to pick out a few talented people to manage and put into the great world of music. Becoming a star just by being in front of your PS3 could never be easier.
Besides, its not as if Sony doesnt have the power to do that.
I'm sure the big wigs at Sony Home Entertainment have considered making a reality show off of that....but who can they pitch it to? not to mention I don't think Singstar has the following it did on PS2....maybe with the lower price point of the PS3 they will attract some of those people over now....but something tells me that wont happen until the PS3 hits $200 in a couple of years
You can order the UK version and everything works. I had the UK version of Queen before it released in the states and all my singstore purchases and everything work fine for it.

It is but the other way around. If a VIdzone song is available in Singstar you are given the choice of buying it. At least that's a feature they added in one of the updates. I don't know if the functionality is live yet or not.
They can add all the cool bells and whistles that they want. Until they release the wireless mics here in NA, Singstar is a big fail. I refuse to import something that was promised years ago(in the form of bluetooth mics, but still...). Once the remedy the wireless mic problem, I'll give the game a shot again. I really do prefer their format, just don't like being tethered to my wireless system.
There's a very important detail that you didn't mention. By making this sound worldwide, you're being really hopeful. Only the EU PS.Blog has announced this--and come on, this is SingStar--so if America does get this at all, it won't be well into 2010.
I own singstar vol 2 and think its great, so this program should be MUCH better than the crummy shopping program on the game(hopefully). Though yesterday...I was in shopko and found vol 1 with 2 microphones for...hold on for this...$5.99. Yah, it was brand new, yah, it was a serious no brainer. So does anyone know if 4 microphones might benefit me in any way(like...that wierd "up to 8 players" thing on the back?) or should I be running to a gamestop to trade in those extra mics?
I really don't care about any of this. I want to like SingStar, but the song selection for the US is just shameful! No amount of new features, wireless mics, etc. will make me want to play if Sony donesn't find a way to fix the song selection.
sony would be sure to make more $$ and attract more users to singstar if it enhanced the singstar viewer to full functionality - so it was a free game - minus the song content, which users would then buy online, buying each song that they want to buy rather than a full bluray - with only a few decent tracks on each one.
i loved singstar for the ps2 - much better titles than is available on the ps3 - even though i have a ps3 i haven't bought singstar because the titles are rubbish. would prefer to just be able to download and pay for the individual tracks.
