The Demoman class in Team Fortress 2 is the first to reveal its changes coming in the new "War" update, gifting everyone's favorite one-eyed Scot with the "Close Combat Kit." Consisting of the deliciously punny Eyelander sword and Chargin' Targe, these medieval weapons are quite the departure from the Demoman's usual high-tech, exploding arsenal. As badass as these weapons are, using them does come with a price.
The sword guarantees a decapitation with every killing blow; however, it will initially suck away the user's health. But for every soul it's fed, it'll provide the player with a boost to health and speed. The ability stacks, up to four kills.
The shield takes the place of the sticky bomb launcher and, once equipped, provides +50% fire damage resistance and +65% blast damage resistance. From a combative standpoint, using alt-fire while equipping the shield will cause the Demoman to charge at ludicrous speed towards an enemy, doling out some serious damage should he connect. Also, doing that will give the Demoman the chance to attack with his sword mid-charge, providing greater chance to up the damage count.

Demoman's Souls, From Softwares infuriatingly difficult take on the FPS.

Actually it would be quite easy: he'd just lure all the demons towards open doors, and then get them with his sticky grenades.

Anyone that might have doubted the MMO-like approach Valve has been taking needs to look no further than this.
...and it's AWESOME! I'm not kidding--only TF2 could work with something like this. God, I wish my gaming computer wasn't broken. This makes me want to play TF2 so bad.

Its so worth it, its a really fun game! But hope you have a mic, its crucial! You need to inform your team of spies sappin' your sentry, inform your spy to sap the other teams sentries, and so forth! If you've never played the game before, start out with engineer, its easy and fun! Or soldier, either one.

Finally, a relatively good counter to the W+M1 pyros. Sounds like it could be fun! Sucks you're giving up the sticky launcher tho...I'd much rather give up the pipebomb launcher, but I guess that would be too powerful.

Now that Joystiq has added all this, they've updated again with soldier updates.

sorry, not meant to be a reply to you.
But if M1 pyros were really that hard to deal with, you're doing it wrong.

I understand that these relate to the character because he is Scottish, and I definitely am a fan of claymores in general, but WTF does this have do do with the demoman class? Seriously, do they really expect any Demoman player o give up his best weapon for a shield? Whats the point?
The demoman is NOT a "run at them and melee" class, nor should he be. In terms of 'usefulness' these weapons are down there with Natascha and the razorback, so the third weapon better kick some serious ass to make up for it.

I think the problem is that they were trying to sold the demomans disadvantage at close range, but yea, hardly anyone will choose the shield over the sticky launcher.
What would they really do though? A person who's really good at demoman proves that it's the most ridiculously overpowered class in the game. If they gave him an explosive powered weapon that was a true match for the sticky launcher, the demomans advantage would be even more ridiculous.

I disagree that the demoman is "ridiculously overpowered"
i just think current tactics will typically favor the demoman's intended playstyle. I agree they couldn't give him a direct match for the sticky launcher, but seriously a shield in not a weapon. I shield does not blow stuff up. A shield is not something that the demoman class, who's entire premise is to blow things up, should have.
The only way Valve could make this worse would be to replace the pipe-bomb launcher with the clusterbomb dynamite that they killed way back in pre-release.

I know I'm getting old. Over 70 comments and I seem to be the only one who recognizes that Valve has brought Stormbringer into the game.
All we need now is the Demoman screaming, "Blood and souls for my lord, Arioch!"
