Life With PlayStation, Sony's updated Folding@Home app just got a cool new expansion today. With update 1.20, cancer-stopping PS3 owners will be able to watch streaming full-screen game trailers while the PS3 chugs away, unfolding proteins. The experience is rather sleek and videos load almost instantly, taking advantage of the same streaming player that "What's New" and the PlayStation Store both use.
It appears the content is automatically gathered from the PlayStation Store, and it allows you to watch all the available content in a single continuous stream. While we don't see this feature being used too often, it's perfect for those GameStop employees that want to have video looping on their PS3 kiosks.
[Thanks, marcus]

Andrew, i thought that a majority of ps3 kiosks were not capable of using the internet, that was one of the limitations i remember seeing a lot. they aren't like normal ps3's, they have a different firmware last time i checked. feel free to prove me wrong though. I think that the addition to life with playstation is great, and I may possibly start getting back to folding since i havn't done it since forever.

Sweet...I was beginning to think they forgot about LIFE with Playstation...there are some cool things I think they could do with that app if given the proper resources. They probably have one guy programming stuff for it.

Doesn't work if you live in Canada btw. Read the fine print - it's only available in the US.

The 1.2 update hasn't added anything for me. :(

This is great, I'm constantly folding (helps keep my room warm) so this is a really nice addition…exposes me to some games I never would have bothered checking out too.

I'm downloading now, should be an awesome feature! Too bad it's taking forever to download.

While I think this is a good idea, I probably won't make use of it. I have my Life with PlayStation devoting all resources to the folding simulation (which also means no music). I might check out the feature, but I'll undoubtedly go back to no-frills folding. Just think of all the extra paper cranes I churn out!

SWEET that means I can watch most of the trailers on the PS store without downloading them and while im doing research for Cancer [well, donating time] ?! AWESOME

You have to go to the "update channels" option in the general settings menu. After you do that, hold square and the new channel should show up.
I'm kinda disappointed with the video selection, I thought this would be streaming every bit of free game media that's on the psn. I'd only been folding for about 45 minutes and already I was getting repeats, I got tired of hearing the same videos going on in the background, so I just turned it back on regular folding.
Oh well, it's still a nice addition, will check it out from time to time.

I like this idea a lot. I love watching trailers but really dislike going through and clicking different ones. Every DVR or on demand service should set it up so you can make playlists
