3 million Battlefield Heroes have been registered, new 'Sunset Showdown' map to celebrate
21
We can see calling yourself a hero if you jump into a burning building to save the mayor's newborn son. That's heroism. But what if you're just one in a group of 3 million, as is now the case with EA's free-to-play (but not necessarily free-to-be-good-at) shooter, Battlefield Heroes? Can you really still be a "hero" then? Aren't you just more of a brave dude? Actual hero or not, everyone will get to enjoy a brand new, single-control-point map, "Sunset Showdown," released to mark the occasion.
Semantics aside, we'll be interested to see if the game can continue to grow after the afore-linked-to pricing changes, or if this is the last peak before a downward slide, into sunset.

Console support?

Its currently only for PC, the microtransactions wouldn't work on a console, well, a non-Xbox console.

what are you talking about ..... since this generation of consoles all of them support DLC and Sony and Microsoft have been milking the hell out of it with micro transactions.
The Wii to the best of my knowledge can in theory do it as well but its limited to about 2gigs or whatever the SD cards it use go up to.

This game is really fun, but it is also kinda unbalanced. Congrats to DICE!

I haven't given this game a chance. The aesthetic makes me think tf2 rip off, and being a free game from EA I just can't imagine it being anywhere as fun as tf2, which I already have.

It's cartoony and it's a team game. That's where the similarities end. It's still a Battlefield game under it all and plays nothing like TF2. Not saying that they didn't blatantly steal ideas from TF2 tho, becuase the obviously did.

Stopped playing after the whole BattleFund ValorPoint debacle, not so fussed about the Battlefunds being able to buy the weapons but not being able to realistically sustain buying weapons when playing for free? No thanks.

3 Million People Like Bad Game

No, it just means 3 million people have tried it. Which doesn't seem all that hard to attain seeing as though it's free.

It was ok during the beta/pre-release when I was in but it doesn't really suck you in. It takes forever to kill people and I'm not saying that from the perspective of like CoD/CS but it takes long even by Quake standards. People move and feel like tanks.
The novelty of riding on a planes wing while a buddy flies wears off pretty damn quickly.
And, making it 'pay to be better faster' or whatever pretty much killed it. It already had a monetary system where you COULD play for XP multipliers but this is pretyy much the death knell of it. Really not worth anyones time, IMO.
Better off with Quake Live if you're looking for a free to play FPS but I think even that won't last long with Live.

The exact conversation I seen in chat the first/last time I played.
Guy1: 8====D
Guy2: lol ur g4y
Guy3: u liek diks
Guy1: my dek is dis big 8===============D
Guy4: mine is this big 8===========================D
Guy1: F*** u Fa****
you get the idea.
(FYI This was a paraphrase of a real conversation I saw during the short period I played. And that is how all of the conversations went.)

Is it just me or are gunners really good in this game.
Posted: Dec 16th 2009 8:13PM PoisonedAl said
Gunner were shit, but they over buffed them. However becuase you have to pay to get the RPG and bandages (consumable heals which gunners eat like sweeties) gunners are less of a problem.

It's a fine game when you consider that it is free. If you're good at it, you can spend an hour or so just having a good time (as long as you don't watch that chat all that much). And they're getting much better with hacks and the ban hammer. Not sure about the new map though. I only really enjoy BB.

Meh, as with all online games it's the servers you play. There is a clunky way to bookmark them but not to browse them. That or join friends. Just hitting "play now" will probably just dump you onto an EA public server. If it's late at night, and American pub.... *shudder*

Yeah, that's true, Al. It's probably the only bit of the game I have any sort of problem with. But, I keep going back to it being free. And while it is free, we're going to have to put up with ordinary servers and random games.
To be honest, I don't think I would actually pay any money to play the game, even if those issues were fixed.
