Go consoles, go! It's a shame that the 360 is not doing so well in Japan though. Competition is always good.

Somewhat "even playing field" competition is always good but that's not always the case.

Just look at Walmart Vs. Every independant retailer. That kind of competition isn't about improving the industry or quality of good and services. It's about driving everyone else out of business, so that they're the only choice. When that is accomplished they can then fix prices anyway they want.

Sorry for the early morning mini-rant.

lol....Walmart fixing prices?? good luck with that....their BIGGEST customers are people that make less than 40k/year....if they jacked prices then they would only hurt themselves....now I'm no pro walmart person(tried to boycott them for 6 months but gave in due to local grocery stores being too costly for things like diapers and kids clothes) but I seriously doubt they would ever go that route....I mean they STILL have PLENTY of competition....sure Walmart is a good company to go after as they seem to sell EVERYTHING, give their employees shit wages and have HUGE profits....but they also are one of the largest companies that donates to local area schools and organizations....there are numerous other retailers that have came in and caused small business out of business....Target & K-mart have done it on several occasions....hell at ONE point K-mart was the one catching all that shit walmart is catching....but wally world passed them and people forgot that Kmart use to do that shit....

damn...yea see now you got me ranting....lol

No offense Chris, but I see your comments a lot and I usually read them and I am not a fan of putting emphasis on a word by making it bigger. What I am saying is; you do it too much.

As for the PS3; Woot. I can't wait for FF13 and I'm sure the FF13 Edition PS3 will sell fantastic.

so what, besides other people saying it, makes you believe wal mart will do that? do you have a secret fairy on your shoulder that helps you see the future? or do you hate wal mart because it's the thing to do? i always hate someplace where i can get stuff cheaper.

@ BIGGEN

" do you hate wal mart because it's the thing to do?"" i always hate someplace where i can get stuff cheaper."

I hate Walmart not because we can get stuff cheaper there but because they do it by eliminating competition by forcing producers to make products cheaper. Producer comply because they need access to Walmart which is becoming the sole retailer in a lot of towns. The easiest way to make product cheaper is by cutting salaries. I guess all those underpaid workers could always shop at Walmart huh.

"so what, besides other people saying it, makes you believe wal mart will do that?

Monopolies are unhealthy for a vibrant economy. Google it. Walmart is interested in unlimited profit and a monopoly is the best way to achieve it.

"do you have a secret fairy on your shoulder "

I wouldn't call you a secret one. ;) I Kid...

It is good to see the consoles re-invigorate themselves in Japan, as it means Japanese devs have more incentive to work on them, instead of the handhelds.

release pokemon for the wii, final fantasy 13 for the ps3 and GUNDAM on both, and you've instantly got 10 million and 5 million. Just sounds better.

A pokemon MMORPG for Wii. That'd be one way to sell a million in a week - for the next 52 weeks.

Heavenly Sword is still pretty expensive. Look at the first Uncharted, MGS4, GT5 Prologue, the non GotY Little Big Planet, the first Resistance, those should all be pretty cheap.

I thought Heavenly Sword was pretty good. Some of the best voice acting and story telling this gen (my opinion). There is a demo for it if you are interested I believe.

Good Luck finding it discounted though. Last time I checked it was still full price.

For my money, the best early PS3 games were Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, and Folklore, in no particular order. Of those three, Uncharted will be the easiest to find and probably the least expensive. Heavenly Sword is around, and I haven't really looked into the availability of Folklore. Also look for Valkyria Chronicles, which is a damned sweet game.

Your enjoyment mileage may vary depending on what genres you like. In my case, I'd replay any one of these games in a heartbeat.

Avoid Lair.

Wal-Mart has cut the prices on Folklore and Valkyria Chronicles to 19.99, but the stock went fast. You'd be lucky to find one.

And Christmas NiGHTS came for the Saturn long before Journey Into Dreams.

I'm aware of that. That's where i got the name, and that's what my avatar was at the time (the cover of the saturn game)

I just figured it was fitting, because Christmas NiGHTS was coming again, since the first and only NiGHTS game to be released since the actual Christmas NiGHTS was released in mid-December (and given how it sold, probably the only other NiGHTS game ever)

The only cheaper PS3 games I can find are the greatest hits games. I thought that I would have a bunch of games I would be able to pick up with my PS3 I recently bought, but that hasn't been the case. They are all still close to, if not, full price. Sucky.

wow, i really thought sales numbers in japan were a lot bigger. i always pictured japan accounting for about half of the ps3 global install base. just goes to show how little i grasp the total population of japan.

Population of japan is about 130 million; US is about 300 million. So a bit more than a third. With regard to those numbers and using lifetime totals, PS3 is about as popular in US as Japan; Wii is more popular in US; 360 is obviously much more popular in US. But DS and PSP are both proportionately more popular in Japan.

Not enough to even bother. Maybe 200k-500k or maybe even less. I know that last few month were around 1K to 2k.

I wonder why 360 is not selling well in Japan. I guess Microsoft's 360 Strategy is focus on UK and American. But I know MS has put a lot of work in Japan as well. I guess Japaneses people don't buy American. I wish I had more money so I could buy a 360 and have all three consoles. i would love to play gears of war and have great exclusive DLC and not have to wait a year just to play DLC on PS3.

Japanese people buy American all the time (for example Apple, and even Microsoft in general, are very successful). You see a computer pictured in a Japanese comic and chances are pretty high that it'll be a Mac rather than an NEC. And even if it is an NEC, it'll still be running Windows.

They just don't buy Xbox 360, which is probably partly due to the reputation the last system got there (it didn't get any Japanese games, and Western ones if released often didn't get translations).

Since this system got much better treatment than the last time, especially in terms of support for Japanese developers, maybe the Xbox 1080 or whatever will have a better chance (especially if they give it a stylish, slim design and make first-generation hardware without major design flaws).

And by the way it's still been more successful than original Xbox; not mentioned in this article since it wasn't just now it happened, I guess, but 360 lifetime sales in Japan are over a million. Not bad.

I remember reading somewhere that one of the main reasons its not selling in Japan is because of Microsoft's horrible advertising over there. Due to that, many Japanese people (outside of serious gamers) don't even know what it is (some think its a new brand of computer instead of a video game console).
