Though Japan finds itself awash in Square Enix RPGs in the PSOne Originals channel of the PlayStation Store, the American PSN is suffering from an inexplicable drought. Fortunately, that situation will be rectified shortly -- according to a recent email bulletin sent out to its customers, Sony revealed Final Fantasy VIII will be coming to the U.S. PlayStation Store. No exact timeframe was given for the game's arrival, but it's listed under a section of the newsletter titled "Coming Soon." We've contacted Sony to try and get something more concrete than that.
[Thanks, Solace.]

Can we please get pocketstation support?
It has its own icon in the memory card adapter, shouldnt take too much work to get the virtual memory cards to be detected as a pocketstation by games
hell, an emulator shouldnt be too hard either

Any news on whether/when it'll make its way to Europe?
It's basically one of my all time favourite games, and my discs are incompatible with my PS3 D:

I replayed all 3 of the PS1 Final Fantasy games last year. Unfortunately, it was before the PSN release(s) because I would have loved to play on my PSP, but oh well. Although FFVII is my sentimental favorite, FFIX is the one that holds up the best. I recommend giving it a play through.
The one I never played was FFXII. I am planing on playing it in preparation for March.

FF8 was a terrible game

Obviously everyone is entitled to their opinions.
But, the story was, at times pretty ridiculous and the draw system did make you sit in the same battle for 20-30 minutes drawing magic.
I loved the graphics and the story as a whole was ok just, large chunks of it could have been better written. The draw system (and consequently, the junction system) can die in a fire as far as I'm concerned.

Pretty sure this is my least favorite FF. I thought the draw/junction system was poor. The story was ok. I remember never using summons because you had to see the same 1-2 minute cut scene over and over again. The monsters leveling with you was the only reason I finished this game. I had no interested in grinding it out and finished the game around level 30.
On the positive side, the final portion of the game was really fun. The mansion where you could gain back your abilities one by one by defeating bosses. I really liked that. I am glad I was able to finish.

I hate any RPG's which make random encounters level up as you do, FF8 and FFT included.

YES!!! One of my favorites. I'm definitely going to download this. Now just FFIX is left.

Damnit! They need to give us Vagrant Story now! It would be a travesty if they didn't!

....whatever.
(note for the humor impaired: the joke is over) It wasn't that bad of a game... I just didn't care for it nearly as much as 9 or 6.

Meh....ff8 is one of my least favorite FF games....I'm waiting for the US to get some of the epic RPGs on the psn that Japan already has like Vagrant Story and Xenogears.

I still have my hard copy of Vagrant Story (near mint), but I'd still buy it on PSN if it meant showing support for a possible sequel.
I'd get Xenogears as well as it's one of the few SE RPGs for PS1 that I didn't play.

Xenogears happens to be one of my favorite RPGs of all time (absolutely loved the story), I still have my hard copy of the game and the 60 gig backwards compatible ps3 to play it on but I really want to get it on my psp. I actually never played Vagrant Story, but I heard its one of SE's best games on psx so I am looking forward to that getting released here in the states, actually one of the few rpgs from the playstation era I never tried out for some reason.

I had started replaying this a few months ago. . . only to realize that i lost disc 3. . . when i needed to put it in. Needless to say I was a bit pissed off.

My disc 3 is scratched and it freezes when boarding the Ragnarok for the first time. I had to send my save file to some random guy on GameFAQs to get past that bit and save it and send it back to me. :P I think the third disc is cursed.
I'll definitely be buying the PSN version when I want to play it again.

I WISH I could even play the game.
I went to play it on my ps2 a long time ago, and turns out one of my sisters were kind enough to have bent the disc one way, then straightened it out, giving it a serious line right along its edge...
I can't even watch the opening... =(

Here's hoping "coming soon" means this week or next. I've got a shiny new PSP Go under the Christmas tree, just waiting for this game.

Nice... this is my 3rd favorit FF. FFT and FFX are top two for me.... now what SE really needs to drop is Xenogears and Valkyrie Profile (my two favorite RPG's of all time) =)
