Never heard of Divinity, let alone Divinity 2...

Needs more marketing.

The original was actually called 'Divine Divinity'. Not that the name would evoke any more familiarity if you didn't already know.

It was a pretty decent RPG, dungeon-crawlerish with some additional story thrown in. For anyone who appreciates music, it definitely had one of the more memorable soundtracks for a game of this type.

You can pick it up on Good Ol Games (gog.com) for $6, if you're looking for something to pass the time on PC.

Does anyone know if this is gonna be any good? It looks, not terrible I guess, but it's from some no name Euro developer whose only previous game was, err, Divinity! I kind of want to play it, but im too worried to even rent it

This game seems to be in the same class as Sacred II. Decent game on PC, but it runs like crap on consoles. 360 version is getting pretty mixed reviews so hopefully the developer made some changes with the NA version.

Looks like it could be a fun game though.

Argh, I really dislike this pre-order bonus trend! : (

I wish they wouldn't put these kind of things as pre-order bonuses. Give us something substantial. These in game armors/weapons/cars/etc are worthless in my opinion. Either you start the game with it and end up getting better gear within hours, or it's the best and the rest of the game's items are unusable.

Divinity II is actually a very solid game on both PC and Xbox 360. I reviewed the game on both systems. It's out in nearly every country except the US now, I think.

Anyways, Divinity II offers quite a lengthy 40 hour campaign with a lot of great VO work. That was unexpected, especially since this is a very "under-the-rader" title.

I'd compare it to Sacred 2, both in terms of gameplay, which is very much a hack n' slash, but it's also very difficult and rewarding -- and also in how well they pulled off the console version. Sacred 2 scored as well and sometimes higher on consoles when it released earlier this year. They pulled off the interface really well on consoles. Sacred 2 was not a title without its issues, because let's face it, these RPG's developed by smaller developers don't have the opportunity to be backed by a boatload of cash.

Divinity II is much the same way. If you have the option, then pick this one up on PC, because it does perform better. But let it be known that this is no Two Worlds disaster. It isn't a slideshow on Xbox 360 and performs well, all things considered. You'll get a dip here or there, but nothing that rips you out of the experience.

This is, imo, a little gem of an RPG and I'd recommend that RPG purists give this one a look.

Also, for those unaware, Larian Studios is a well respected company in other parts of the gaming world. Look up Divine Divinity. It's a masterpiece of a game. Beyond Divinity wasn't horrible, but it lacked a lot compared to the previous entry.

Interesting mini-review there, CPA. I was getting a really strong "valu-ware" vibe from the trailers, so I was prepared to give it a pass without even checking out a demo, but you've swayed me back to the side of moderate interest. Thanks.

Thanks to both of you. I appreciate the kind responses. I definitely recommend checking it out if you're a fan of fantasy-style RPG's. It certainly won't be for everyone, so if it doesn't look like something you don't need to own or whatever, then give it a rent or pick it up when it's cheap. I gave it a 7.5 on PC and a 7.0 on 360 in my reviews. The 7.0 was due to some framerate dip (nothing serious, though, like I said), a lack of anti-aliasing, and some minor bugs/glitches. So, in the end, I definitely recommend it on PC, but it's still very playable on 360.

Thanks CPA, your overview was helpful and got me interested so I downloaded the demo and had a good time; though it's not the best RPG game is worth picking up when it hits the shelves as p-o'd. Had not heard of it before, so thanks for your write up.

Snakes...why does have to be snakes?

In other words...why does it always have to be Gamestop getting these deals? I'm tired of them getting all the exclusives. I would like the choice to not give them my business AND still get pre-order bonuses.
