Square Enix accepting beta applications for PC Final Fantasy XIV

Final Fantasy XIII? Totally old hat, even though it's not out yet. Square Enix has just opened applications for a Final Fantasy XIV beta, for the Windows version only. "All individuals are invited to apply," the page reads, "regardless of their past MMORPG experience."

Slow down, chocobo! Before applying, you need to be 18 years old, have plenty of hard drive space and an internet connection (obviously), be fluent in Japanese, English, French or German for the purpose of bug reports, and have a Square Enix ID account.

Though the current round of applications is only for the PC version, Square Enix indicates that a PS3 beta may be on the way later. And if you don't get in this time, don't worry -- the company says there will be "several rounds of tester selection, with the total number of participants increasing each time." And if there's anything Final Fantasy fans are good at, it's waiting their turn.

Actually, FFXIII came out today (it's the 17th in Japan), so it was probably timed to that.

This just made my day, can't believe they are edging close to beta already!

Granted, I'm not a huge Final Fantasy fan - having only played the Tactics series - but I thought the last MMO was kind of a dud. I mean, most of my friends who are really into that series have played all of them (if not more than once)...except XI, which is just sort of ignored. Is this a minority thing and most people loved it or not?

I know it was pretty big in Japan, but it was kinda under the radar here.

What kept me off FFXI was the monthly fee. Monthly fees are a bad policy.

FF11 was OK, but it kind of got pushed aside by WoW. personally im hoping to get into the beta, but im pretty sure by the end of next year i'll be playing too much SWToR to care either way.

FFXI was on PS2 for what....2-3 years before it came out on 360? yea dont hold your breath sprinkles....in fact....hold it...

Actually FF11 was on Windows before PS2, the 360 wasn't even close to being out when this released.

yea I know it was on PC before it came to PS2....but even going off of that it came out on PC in 2002....360 in 2006 thats still a big enough gap....

I wonder if you'd make the running for most epic troll ever to hit the internet. It takes a special kind of 24 year old man to troll a website for 1.5 years and come back 100+ times after being banned. A very, special kinda guy. If you didn't know Darth, good old Sprinkles here likes to call anyone a "Sony fanboy" if they disagree with any of it's opinions. It even called that to me, and everyone here knows I am a PC fanboy (for now). I was a Sony fanboy, but that's beside the point, I'm not any longer.

I'm sure it will be out on the 360. Multiplatform = more profit for Squenix, so it's a no-brainer, especially for an MMORPG.

Actually XI did come out on the PS2 before it was released on the PC. In Japan, by about 6 months.

From now on, Square Enix ID shall be referred to as a Sqeid account, because it makes me laugh.

Also, I fought through the 404s and came out with a successful beta registration.

The servers are back now. And anyways they dont give applications based on order of submission, so is not a OMG I MUST APPLY RIGHT NAO sittuation

Just got FFXIII this morning and I already want to play this too!!!
