I wish! That was the best $15 I ever spent. I've shared that game with at least five other people who wanted to go buy their own copy after and then found out how high the price for it can get.

I like it when games go up in value, especially when you were one who supported the game at launch and held on to it rather than trading it in. Most of those who complain about soaring prices on out of print games were probably to cheap to support the game when it came out, causing it to be rare in the first place.

Or, ya know, they just weren't old enough or alive when the game came out.

A couple of Christmases ago I bought Tomba and Tomba 2 for my wife via Ebay for 65 dollars a piece. Hopefully these would be somewhere down the pipeline for getting a re-release at some point. Interesting point - Tomba 2 goes for a little more than Tomba now.

Really? My local shop has a copy of Tomba 2 (case, but no manual) for 20. Is that a really good price, I take it?

$20 is a damn good price for it. I asked my wife for her preference and she says it's just as fun as the first one. A little different, but still good.

I definitely benefited from selling Xenogears (PS1) last year for $50 after getting stuck 1/4 into the game and rage-quitting.

The interesting thing to all this is the PC games which people consider to be "wracked by piracy" continue to hold their value through re-releases and even readily available downloads.

I guess the difference is with an old PC game your usually getting more than just a disk and a tiny manual, so people are attached to the older boxes.

Just thought that was curious.

If game companies were smart they would look up the old playstion games to see which ones were selling fo the most... then release all the top priced games on psn and while destroying the hearts of all those evil bastards selling ps1 games for 70 bucks, they can also make a nice profit themselves.

It's bound to happen. Most of these prices drop because collectors get pissy more than making it not rare again. A physical copy of the game is still rare. The people you are pandering to on these digital services aren't the same people that stroll through flea markets or click through eBay trying to find a bitching deal on a non greatest hits version of FFVII.

I'm pretty sure the prices drop because the vast majority of buyers just want to play the game to feel nostalgic, and while a case and disc would be nice, playing a digital copy will bring that nostalgia back just the same.

FFVII certainly dropped... I sold my GH copy on eBay, about 6 months before its PSN release, and got nearly $70 for it. A few months following, I saw copies not getting bid on and very low bids, too.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and MGS on PSN, Pikmin and Mario Power Tennis on the Wii also were effected. You used to see both MPT and Pikmin very rarely at GameStop around here, and usually with a $40 dollar price tag... now when I see them, they're both $20, if that.

I need to dump my extra copies of Demon's Souls, pronto. This's why I don't like to bother with stocks, or speculating on stuff like this. Why bother with the hassle of being essentially an opportunistic a-hole, esp. if there's no guarantee of a payoff in the end anyhow?

Though I doubt that it'll be reaching the PSN anytime soon.

LOL...you can actually kill that dragon (which impressed me b/c I thought it was a pre-rendered trigger item that could not be interacted with), and those elite soliders then won't be able to turn you into a sandwich.

It's pretty good, it really becomes like survival horror, but in a fantasy setting. The one thing I really didn't like is the sheer amount of grinding one seems to need to level up (it costs more and more souls to do so each time you level), and to get the unique stones one needs to get all the exotic weapons. but then again, I'd rather play more games than become a trophy whore, so I haven't gone back to deal with all the other nonsense that Demon's Souls offers if you really feel like burning away endless hours of your life. (I've heard it takes about 4 or more complete rotations of the game to do all the actions needed for the platinum).

I paid $70 for a PS2 copy of Rez a few years ago... then prices dropped when someone started re-printing the game. Now it's on Xbox live, which is pretty cool too.

That game is awesome, so I don't give a shit.

It's nice to know the horrible digital downloads of PS1 games that play horribly on the PS3 (running at higher resolutions by default, thus stretching and filtering out the graphics/midi's are always off) are helping us physical game collectors.
Non-GH, Mint, Full game > cheap download that's confined to one console.

I wasn't old enough when the first Batman comic came out either, but that doesn't mean a comic book store should sell it to me for $5.

Someone tell the douches at Konami to re-release the entire Suikoden series on PSN. I have originals of all except for #2, which funny enough was my favorite one. My burned copy of #2 probably doesn't work anymore. Not that I'm going to go back and play it anytime soon...

Why exactly are you calling game collectors jerks? Collectors buy, trade, and sell commodities just like anyone else, surely they shouldn't be demonized for doing so. I would hardly call it hoarding, it's the dynamics of the used video game market. Ports are fine, but the collectors market will solider on, even if the value of the items in question comes back to earth. You can add your sealed copy of Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 to the stack of Magic Cards and The Death Of Superman comic books. Love the data presented, could of gone without the attitude.

Yeah, it's too broad a term. I'm a collector, but I collect to own, not to flip and resell the title.

I'm the same as Darth, as I said down there, I've been collecting the Final Fantasy main series just because I like it a lot and would like to keep it around. I also collect some other stuff I doubt I'll see re-released (or ported properly) in a while, like SF3:3rd Strike and Persona 3 FES.

This doesn't make a lot of sense to me either. I have been collecting video games and related merchandise most of my life because I like doing so. Now whenever I sell off some of my stuff at whatever its current market value is I'm a bad guy?

Most of the people on this board probably collect stuff the same way I do. Maybe right now you think you will never sell any of it, but at some point when you are older you will probably change your mind and become the "evil hoarders" you are complaining about.

The Virtual Console is another great example because a good amount of the SNES games (Ogre Battle, Final Fight 2, Act Raizer, Mario RPG, etc) on there go for crazy money on eBay.

Just yesterday I 've completed my Final Fantasy main series collection (I had all of them but X and IX - got X black label last week for 20 bucks mint and IX for 21 also mint).

I didn't notice a de-value in FF7 since the digital re-release though (but I've had my copy since 1998 when I got my PS1)

Yah. ever since this whole rerelease stuff...my collection of games is seeming more and more less special to me. I want to sell everything...but now with these rereleases I don't even know where to begin pricing my collection. I just want to lump the group together and get rid of them. Does anyone have any suggestions?
