Excuse my ignorance but how much money and effort would it cost MGS to publish Toki on it's own service? Seems like it's a bit of a dick move to me.

Why not just use Indie Games service if they can't find someone. Don't need a "publisher" there. Lots of good games there too.

Indie Games run on the XNA engine. Toki HD doesn't.

Why not put it on PSN? Sony cuts some pretty good deals for these smaller guys.

I was looking forward too it. Maybe it's not too late to convince Microsoft that we are willing to throw them back some of our spacebucks we bought for this

Why does it even need a publisher at all? If it's digital, it's not exactly getting published in the traditional sense. Such a complicated process for something that should be so simple. These are video games, people. It's supposed to be fun

Why do they need a publisher for a digitally distributed game? I would have imagined that it would be as simple as sending a copy of the game to MS to run validation on the code to ensure that it is safe, then it gets posted onto the marketplace.

Cry me a river. No offense but too many games like Toki already flooding XBLA. Come again... but with another game.

I don't view this as Microsoft raising the bar for titles they publish under their name because of Shadow Complex, I see it more as they don't want to compete against third parties. Microsoft makes money no matter what. Why alienate third parties in the process? Does it do Microsoft any good to publish all the games themselves?

If it's true that MS is starting to turn away indie developers, it will be sad day indeed. It already requires an obscene amount of effort for an indie developer to produce something that will stand up in today's multi-million dollar blockbuster game market. Making it even harder by forcing those developers to get third-party publishers is pretty much saying, "we don't want your dirty little indie games on our service anymore. Go play in your special little sandbox we set up for you."

I suppose XBLA is no longer a hub for indies, but instead a place for big studios to pump out some smaller projects to supplement the budget for Generic War Shooter 13: Now It's Personal.
