I like how games like Splinter Cell and MW2 aren't just ramming co-op into their solo campaign and calling it day. Offering separate experiences that are designed from the ground up to be co-op is almost always going to yield better results.

I have yet to play a game that has a separate co-op campaign where said campaign was anywhere remotely close to being as good as the SP campaign. It always feels like a last minute add-on and lacks the length and depth of the main campaign. OTOH, I've played many games that feature co-op in the main campaign where both playing by yourself or with a buddy was enjoyable. I think if you plan for the co-op from the start things turn out fine.

The Co-op in Saints Row 2 was a blast. The entire game can be co-op.

@Sisyphus

That's my point. From what I've experienced, the co-op experience is much better in games that have co-op in the main campaign as opposed to games that advertise a separate co-op campaign. I'm disputing Copa's position that it's better to have it separate from the main campaign. I haven't seen any example where that is true.

You didn't like MW2's co-op missions?

I've played games that had individual missions that were fun. MW2, GTAIV, and Ghost Recon come to mind, but those aren't true "campaign" experiences. And even with those they fall short of the depth and length offered by the SP campaigns. Pretty much every game I've sen offer a separate co-op "campaign" has fallen far short of the actual SP campaign experience. I much prefer a game like Rainbow Six that not only offers true co-op in the SP campaign, but also offers missions/scenarios (e.g. Terrorist Hunt) that are similar to those offered in games like GTAIV and Ghost Recon.

I never liked the multiplayer much. Chaos Theory was one of the first game to do online co-op, and not have it suck.

I'm glad they're bringing it back.

It's great to see Ubi Montreal going down this direction again with regards to co-op. SC: Chaos Theory had a great co-op mode which crossed over with the main story, and this looks to take that up a notch. Can't wait.

Co-op games and MMO games are SO fun! Almost all games (except a few that would be impossible) should have splitscreen/online campaign co-op and/or a multiplayer mode. RE5 was sick, LBP kicks ars, and COD: WAW had tons! Uncharted 2 has great multiplayer but it'd be cool to have online campaign co-op for certain missions where your not just Drake tearing it up. I realize we won't get splitscreen because Naughty Dog refuses to dull the graphics. Then everybody knows COD4 and MW2 are great fun but they could have splitscreen/online campaign co-op IMO. Game on :-)

Finally a game where you're working with the Russians and not shooting them in the face.

If the co-op elements build upon those seen in Chaos Theory, I am sold.

You should say the fact it's a Tom Clancy franchise and you're working with Russians and not thinking they're all mad drunken lunatics with a finger on the Apocalypse.

Hell yeah the co-op in Chaos Theory was one of my favorite experiences on the first xbox, right up there with halo: ce and kotor. I had a ton of fun sneaking around with my best friend and taking out baddies in different ways. Super pumped on this.

No, they'll just put 1-2 players or the back of the box so people think it has offline co-op.

Is this limited to two-player Co-op? If so, it is as bad as previous generations would were limited to 4-player Team Play. Its like programming for your wrist watch and not making multiplayer gaming truly available.

Mind you, I am only complaining because I actually have more than one friend. Maybe these programmers only have one friend at most? :)
