PSN Thursday: Prepping for the holidays ... oh yeah, and Final Fantasy VIII

This will be the final "normal" PSN Thursday of 2009. Next week the update will occur on Tuesday, December 22, and there will be no update the following week.

Let's be honest, though, there's plenty of great downloadable games and DLC available that one week without an update isn't going to be that painful. For those who've been practicing their aversion to fun this year and are ready to accept joy, now's the time to check out some of this year's PSN titles like Fat Princess, Critter Crunch and PixelJunk Shooter. Also, today's update adds Final Fantasy VIII. Any other great downloadable titles from 2009 worth mentioning? Check out the full PSN update after the break.

FFVIII was always my favorite one... I think it was mostly the music, though, to be honest. That soundtrack must be one of my all-time favorites.

The card game was also top notch.

Ah yes, triple triad. I actually only recently discovered there are actual groups online that play that, with their own software for it and such.

And now I just realized it would make a great PNS/XBL game too!

Never played that one. Only played FFVII and FFX. FFX is easily my favorite game ever, love the story, gameplay and for 2001 the graphics were incredible.

8 was too easy. You could stroll through it without breaking a sweat. I'll take 7 and 9 over it any day.

yeah, the soundtrack to VIII was nice. with me the card game and the summons were the best qualities though, but being forced to draw magic nearly ruined the game for me.

PS3 even has an icon for it when you plug it into the memcard adapter, but its useless since PS1 games cant detect it

FF8 is only horrible if you can't appreciate a good game.
