As 2009 drawns to a close, it seems that Borderlands is going to be one of the few real original IP success stories of the year. Gearbox's co-optimized first-person shooter has emerged from a pack of licensed games and sequels to sell two million units worldwide, according to Take-Two's most recent financial release.
Take-Two added that the game "has established itself as a key franchise for Take-Two, for which the Company has long-term publishing rights," so it seems as though two million of you will undertake a return trip in the coming years.

Definitely deserves a sequel. Should we assume its going to be set 200 years after the first?

that's if they follow pandora's story, if they follow the characters it could go into another planet, after all, the girl tells you she'll be looking out for you.

I have loved everything about this game so far except for the steep price of the next DLC (or game update, whatever you want to call it) that is coming out. Can't wait to see what they do with the sequel.

I've had my copy rented since the week it came out. I havent brought myself to be able to return it. THis is the 2nd game that I've bought DLC for a rented game before(first being last years prince of persia), and I'll prolly keep it until the next DLC comes out and buy that to...
should have bought this from the beginning... to late now though... already have platinum trophy, and on my 3rd playthrough...

I liked it at first but then grew to dislike it b/c of the severe lack of story (c'mon it's supposed to be a hybrid RPG) and the tedious process of traveling and leveling up. Just sold my copy on Amazon.. I think I'll get Dragon Age: Origins.

I agree with the weak story argument. But to me the process of traveling and leveling up is an integral part of most RPG. Now, does it have to? That's an entire different question.
As for DA:O, I like it very much, and you'll get a better story by multiple magnitude, but believe me when I say that there's as much traveling and leveling up involved.

Good for them! I love this game.
SPOILER:
One of the things that really bothered me was not being able to actually go inside of the vault at the end of the game. I mean, if you aren't going to let us do that at least give us a decent loot drop after beating the final boss. All I know is that at the start of the game I was told legends of money, guns, and women and received none of the third and small amounts of the first two after the final boss.

Tru dat, and not to mention if someone managed to glitch out of the ending (happened to me twice), they were able to nab all the decent items for themselves (of which there were like.. two? One artifact and a purple gun (on the second playthrough)).
The ending was a bit of an anticlimax, considering that the game builds you up up and up for a vault with some stupidly strong guns, and women and whathaveyou.. And you get nothing! I would've prefered the ability to enter the vault, nab a few random guns and maybe a new specific gun and then get mauled by that big son of a gun.

Yeah, the ending was a complete joke, no two ways about it. I mean, right from the first three minutes of the game, it was all about GET WHAT IS IN THAT VAULT, and you'd get regular reminders from your ever-present observer about how close you were getting to your goal, but when you're finally there... bluh. Sure, the story threw out some half-assed reasoning to explain the anti-climatic wrap up, but I was pretty dissatisfied.
That said, the shootout I had in Old Haven playing as Mordecai was pretty epic in scale. Definitely the high point of the game for me, and worth the price of admission.

Agreed. Old haven served as a climactic moment from a gameplay perspective, it was really fun blowing through that with a friend. I heard that they were interested in revisiting old haven in dlc, so hopefully we can get more of that style of shootout soon.
Wow, Borderlands had a dénouement. That is more than many games can say.

"Thousands of years ago the Eridians were living the good life on multiple planets including Pandora. One day, the Destroyer appears on Pandora presumably creating the landscape we see in the game. The Eridians gather the bulk of there forces on the planet for a final showdown. In a last ditch effort to stop the Destroyer they lock him away in Pandora's vault sacrificing everything in the process turning it into a prison. The Survivors then stash the remnants of there civilization in the vault on Prometheus. Centuries later it is discovered by the Atlas corporation and the "gold rush" for alien tech is sparked. The remaining Eridians knowing this hijack a Hyperion satellite and place the Guardian Angel ai inside to make sure the that vault/prison is never opened."
This seems likely. I don't think that all of the vaults hold treasure like Prometheus' vault. It was just a rumor, basically.

I think it's a great game, personally, I think this is the best fusion of FPS and RPG by far. Unfortunately, the story is weak and on PC, the multiplayer is trash because people can't get on due to port forwarding. That's BS, because I can play every other game online, why should I tinker with my router just to play this game online, very uncool. Also, I just don't know how to forward ports on my router.
I'd love a sequel, just hope these problems are fixed first. As well, I'd rather play through all the DLC's first.

Great game, just a shame there were literally only 2 games available earlier when I check to join..
A sequel would be spectacular though!

Give it time for MW2 to calm down (should be within weeks if they don't get the glitches fixed) and your games will go back up.

While I don't think it is an incredible set up, gameranger holds most of the Borderlands population. I thought most people knew this by now.

Borderlands is a good game but it's nothing great yet. The story is terrible and non existing because there's nothing to hold the players interest, and the combat is repetitive and boring after you travel around a few locations. I really hope they can improve upon the game and add more weapon variety like in a Fallout 3, instead of your standard shotgun, SMG, Sniper rifle and combat rifle with elemental attack.
It is nice to see a new IP striving instead of the same ol' bullshit you see being released every 2 years, selling millions because of name alone and past recognition.

Did you say weapon variety in Fallout? You can't be serious. There is a reason why there are more weapon mods for Fallout than just about any other game.

Definitely a great game, although my favorite new IP of '09 was inFAMOUS, which didn't do tooooo badly with 1.2 million in sales, to date. Got to love Sucker Punch.
But once you get through the bugs, which are slowly being ironed out, and the lackluster DLC, Borderlands is one hell of a trip with friends.

I bought this game a few weeks ago and finally had a chance to spend some hours with it over the last few days. It's really not all that great. Granted, it's not a bad game either (far from it) but it feels more like an MMO than a traditional game that I sort of expected what with its random loot drops and random enemy encounters. I need to put more time in it but so far I don't see what the big deal about it is. I'm kind of underwhelmed.

Kind of like a first person Too Human.
Loved the art style and humor but zero story and repetitive gameplay left me bored.

Great news, I feel they'll get tons of feedback about their first game and make one hell of a sequel.

Did the developers intentionally make leveling up give you pretty much a 50% damage boost?
