I have loved the additions to Burnout Paradise, it really was the gift that kept giving. What's odd is all the free content was stuff I would have paid for, and most (not all) of the paid stuff I wasn't interested in.

Loved the classic 80s tv and movie cars! Delorean and General Lee for the win!

I'll take more Paradise content or a Burnout 6 over them doing a NFS reboot. No doubt they'll make NFS a great arcade racer, but I can't get enough Burnout! Paradise is easily my favorite racing game ever made, even though it's lacking a few of the excellent features from Takedown and Revenge (aka, my previous favorites).

Sounds like cool content though, and I'll definitely support them with my dollar whenever their next game comes out.

Criterion, thanks for releasing Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box for the PC, even though it came out a full year after the console versions, you included most of the DLC released prior. I thank you as a console developer for showing the PC some love. Now, can you release some DLC the PC didn't get like Big Surf Island please? : )

Yeah, this definitely wasn't a diatribe. The word made me think this was a dev ranting about how the publisher cut off funds after some point, not ideas scrapped because of design limitations.

Yeah, strangely it's used in the manner of definition 1 in the dictionary, but that's labeled as "archaic" which seems sort of strange. Unless there are rules about never reshuffling the numbering of definitions. I have to admit I'm a bit ignorant about the finer details of dictionary compilation and editing.

But I think most people hear "diatribe" and think someone is going on an epic rant and possibly foaming a bit at the mouth and spittling a little on anyone who gets close enough.

Burnout Paradise reignited racing games for me. It was free roam, open word, flawless on/offline play, and the support for it was amazing. I will gladly pick up the next Burnout (since they seem to be done with dlc) if criterion promises even half of the dlc they gave for paradise.

It is a damn shame, did they ever give any official news to why it hasn't come for PC yet? : (

Its not surprising, its a trend for developers with multiplatform games not to release DLC for the PC, Ubisoft, Capcom, etc. I'd like to know why. If your going to release the game to the PC, release the DLC as well, treat us equally!

No official news at all! Users have made petitions, sent e-mails, twittered the team, asked on the forums, and even made phone calls but Criterion made NO response. I would be completely cool with Criterion if they'd grow up and just say 'No, there will be no Big Surf Island for PC'. That SHOULD have been the worst case scenario. But this...

It's not acceptable for a company to deliberately ignore faithful and good-intentioned customers for days let alone the months we've all waited for an answer. Goodbye, Criterion.

1280x720 progressive IS HD.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/720p

====================

PC gamers get what they pay for. I mean, I challenge you within $299 (tax excluded) to build a working functioning PC that can play games at the same quality, resolution and framerate as the PS3 or 360 (whichever is deemed "better" in the graphics department).

Case and Keyboard included in the budget (Consoles come in cases and with controllers). No parts recycles allowed. DVD drive included. Blu-ray optional. Parts must be new, not used. (You can get a new PS3 for the price, so you must get an all new PC as well).

Power supply must be decent to support parts. LCD monitor is not included in budget, but must have at least a resolution of 1920x1080.

Operating system included in budget, must be OEM (except for free OS like linux), must not be pirated if applicable, and the OS must be able to run games.

===

Now if you do succeed in matching the criteria for the build, and matching the graphics of the consoles, I'll be stunned.

But if you don't make it, (which I would think is more likely) then you see why console gamers pick consoles: Because they are relatively cheap, and you have lots of money left over for games, a good display, and a laptop for general use.

People unfairly compare a $300 console just to play games vs. a $600+ computer just to play games. I do everything with my PC, I personally like having all-in-one devices and why I game on the PC now, I was a console gamer beforehand. It is just not fair that for those that have gaming PCs, they have to be downgraded to console standards, I should get what I pay for. A gaming world with only consoles would really suck.

Back in 2002, I walk into a random store at Gilmore, Manila and look at the system requirements of a game then think if my PC can handle it and if "upgrade x" is worth it to play the game and future games, and all the while console gamers just walk past me, pick up a game they like for their system, pay for it, and walk out.

Then I was "converted" to a console gamer in 2004 when I got a PS1: "Hey, you just pop a game in and it plays!"

Sure, I like my PC. It can do things my PS3 can't. But I like my consoles too because they can do what my PC can't: Play games.

It's a hobby thing. Most people prefer to have the ease of use of consoles and some enjoy the challenge and prowess of having a super gaming computer. Sure, it costed me $1200 more to have slightly better HD quality and moderately better graphics, but it's a passionate hobby. Don't forget that the PC gamers also have the ability to mod games, which basically turned Fallout 3 from "Wow, cool" to "HOLY ****!".

And ask said before, my PC is an all-in-one system. Games, internet, programs, work, and school all in once convenient place.

Exactly Zach, a console is for some, a PC for others. I prefer PC right now but don't completely slag consoles. I was first a PC gamer as a child, then a console gamer in my later childhood and teens and now again a PC gamer. I may switch again but PC gaming will always hold a spot in my heart.

I love its flexibility, customization, that it is a hobby, etc.

Yes, 'cause one absolutely, must see their FPS in 1920x1200, on a $1200 rig.. After being an avid PC user myself, the major draw of console gaming is the variety in games you can play, not to mention with the current trend of DLC.. I can actually play it.
PC gaming is nice, but in the end the constant need to upgrade to "be on top" is not worth the effort for a $50 game and 10hour experience, but to each his own.

I'm not a huge fan of racing games, in general, outside of Mario Kart... but Burnout Paradise really got me into it and I spent more time on IT than I do most RPGs (165 hours with 303% completion).

At any rate, Criterion is a developer I often cite on here, and other forums, as one of the few developers to be doing DLC right this generation... I often get criticized for it due to reasons like "OMG Criterion charged for some DLC" followed by other such nonsensical whining. But its true... alongside Media Molecule and Ubisoft, I think they're the only ones to do DLC right, while others like Capcom and Lucasarts could learn a thing or three.

Burnout Paradise was a great example of how to keep a game fresh and just how a developer should continue to support their titles... and Mm is doing the same.

I've sunk a lot of time into this game and I think it is the greatest arcade racer of all time (that or San Francisco rush). The cops and robbers dlc and the island were the best. The underground and boats dlc ideas sound so good. The online on this was so much fun, seriously more burnout Criterion, fuck the nfs franchise.

In all of their crazy DLC creative enhancements did they ever plan, oh I don't know, a CRASH mode? You know, like the excellent and popular CRASH modes featured in Burnout 2, Burnout Takedown and Burnout Revenge? Maybe I'm old school but even years after after Burnout 2 died out in mainstream, me and friends were still vying for the high score lists in the measly 15 intersections included in crash mode. Nothing in Paradise even came close.

So who do we thank for allowing us Burnout Paradise and the smathering of free and worthwhile premium content in the first place? Do we thank the cancer of the gaming industry?

Of course the guy with the Saw avatar would be the bitter one still whining about the company that has for all intents and purposes cleaned up their act and done some serious good this generation. Twisted Pictures is a cancer to the film industry.

I still don't get why people ever thought it was. As they said, they showed them off in a podcast way before the April Fools stuff.

As they said, they hinted at all of them beforehand so not many are a surprise. Although it's nice to hear how much they worked on them before deciding against them.

Burnout Paradise was the 2nd Burnout game I'd ever played, having missed out on the original but hearing amazing stuff about it then buying Burnout 2 for Gamecube. After that they ignored the Gamecube so I couldn't get the others which was disappointing as Burnout 2 was favourite Gamecube racer.

With that, the one thing I missed in Burnout Paradise was a separate Crash mode. There were many junctions they could have included a crash mode. Though they did have a semi crash mode in the game as far as I know, but it was up to you to find those big crashes.

Burnout Paradise was a pleasant surprise for me. I bought off the PS store for $20, I think, and I have over 70 hours in. And that's a lot for me. Great value, great dlc some of it cost free. I'll gladly pay $60 for the next Burnout, or even Need For Speed if Criterion will treat it just as well.

The removal of crash mode in favor of car bowling is what made me loose interest in Paradise over past Burnout releases. Plus having to drive back to the original destination to restart a race was somewhat annoying. So even though they released tons of DLC, I pretty much never looked back at the title after I stopped playing. Too bad crash mode wasn't added via DLC.

Yeah, Showtime was god awful. Occasionally you'd get lucky on a busy bus-filled road and it would go on forever. You know it's bad when you actually stop yourself from continuing and hope nothing crashes into you while you wait for the explosion meter to run out.

Thankfully the rest of the game is top notch, though I did have to retrain myself after all that ridiculous traffic checking in Revenge. I do wish they offered an option to close off streets for single races though, some of the fun from the old games is diminished when you aren't forced to race side by side battling it out.

Worked their butts off? I'm sorry, but they did ONE free pack that had any noticeable content in it, and that was the Bikes Pack. There were only two bikes, which got some visual mods to be unlocked later as a second set. There were some really basic races and challenges, but that's it.

Problem was too the bikes were so poorly implemented. There was no independent front and rear braking, which made the bikes so boring. No endos/stoppies, no burnouts, no donuts. On top of that the wheelies were pointless because you could only pull up so much and it'd stop so you could just wheelie forever. There was no skill involved and it go so old so quickly. Hell, putting the specifics aside, the bikes just weren't even that fun to drive, and all of the races were time trials. No bike vs bike. It's sad because even GTA does bikes better then this.

I know, they added weather and a day night cycle, but in my opinion they basically patched in shit that should of been there from the start. So please people, get it straight here. I don't know how it happened, but their free support got blown into them like giving the game away for free or something. It was nice, but there was no way you could of charged anything more then $5 for the Bikes Pack, and that's even pushing it.

But then they stopped, and the formerly free Big Surf Island became a $12.50 paid pack. That's more then it's worth, but that doesn't bother me too much in comparison. What did bother me is them charging out the ass for the DLC Car Packs and the small, insignificant shit like the Party Pack and Cops and Robbers. Both $10 packs that really had less content then the Bikes Pack or a lot of dirt cheap or free DLC does.

Somewhere along the line, Criterion got made into gods by the gaming community for their support of the game, and when you break it down, their support was really nothing special. Get a grip already people.
