Isn't this in bargain bins by now? I mean, the game wasn't *that* great, and got super repetitive at the end. Either economically destroy planets, or invade them. Doesn't make much of a difference either way.

It was never about the game play, the community alone still keeps me in it, if you have a fanbase it can be really cool.

No, they are not bargain bin. In general, I haven't seen much bargain binning of PC or console games in the past few years. Not from the big names, at least. Newegg still has Spore at $37, which is about what it was upon release. Zelda for the Wii? No price change. That's just a couple off the top of my head.

Better fix it before they put it on sale

Are people still playing this? I'd say this was one of those disappointing games that had immense hype. Playing Scribblenauts at the minute I fear it'll be another one.

I bought Spore. Bad mistake. I blame Joystiq for propagandanising me to want it. It really looked good...

It's not their fault, the original demo that was shown was amazing, but secretly it had a lot of issues and so they had to cut a lot of it, the final product is a shadow of what was shown, but it's still a great game purely because of the community.

By 'their' I mean joystiq's.

And I forgot to mention that not much was shown afterwards and no announcement was made of the cutbacks

Don't buy from Steam? Okay. That's what I've been doing all along. My physical copies don't implode, so long as I can get around the bits of DRM.

Eh, another game that promised way too much and delivered very little. Really, from the moment they announced it we should have known it was too good to be true.

And it's strange that it doesn't have serial numbers on steam. UTIII uses serial numbers as well, but as soon as you launch the game a little steam message pops up to tell you your serial number. Did EA not think to include the numbers when they put it on steam?

In summary...

"if you're about to buy [game x] from Steam ... just buy it somewhere else."

I have lost count of how many times I have to blow away some of their config files because Steam "can't connect to the internet" and other various problems. Use D2D or some other site that doesn't infect your system.

I just started playing Spore again, still having fun, still too many planets to invade.

The information provided in this news clip is incorrect.

The issue affects both RETAIL and digital purchases as well as other EA titles. It was an issue with EA's backend and had nothing to do with Steam (or other retailers). There is actually a sticky on the official Spore forums that covers all of this - http://forum.spore.com/jforum/posts/list/46698.page .

Other related threads:
http://forums.commandandconquer.com/jforum/posts/list/26555.page
http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/343520.page

Most importantly, the issue appears to have been resolved today.
