Quick question: In a hypothetical war between inventor extraordinaire Nikola Tesla and an advanced race of robots, who would win? The answer is, of course, entirely dependent on the version of Tesla we're talking about. Real-life Tesla stands a pretty good chance -- after all, that debonaire mustache is probably capable of disabling most electronic devices. The safe money's on The Prestige's Tesla, who was played by David Bowie, who can disintegrate any synthetic material using nothing but the power of his rocking.
The Tesla in Dark Void looks like he'd stand a fair chance as well. Check out the above dev diary to see the warring factions of technology present in the game, and to get a few more sweet, sweet glimpses of the title's jetpack-based combat.

Man, I remember the first time I saw The Prestige, and for some reason, my friend and I COULD NOT stop laughing at Bowie/Tesla. Good times...

I might just be in a jerk mood right now after watching the 70 min Star Wars Ep 1 review, but I really hated watching this. A couple points:
Why are there lens flares on a dev diary?
Tesla w/Mohawk = Jetpack shooter?
Why do the subtitles for Inafune take 5 seconds to show up after he starts talking?
The music and effect sounds are louder than the developers often.
When the combinations of weapons are described he is detailing any game where you have options. This isn't special. He explains the strategy of a single scenario. How does this tell us how your game is different? Will can carry two weapons!
One of the devs describes a weapon upgrade as Ho-hum. Is this to make US excited or our supposed antagonist?
They make up a lot of words! Bubble-bobble, Teslapunk. Rat-a-boom-boom.
The Jetpack is Iconic? Maybe for video games, but not for Tesla. (nitpick) Tesla wanted a flying craft without on-board fuel sources. What's that jetpack burning?
Game looks fun!

They're just too good at being what they are. Flashy and bright.
Gives me headaches.

Name one game that had 10 weapons at once + grenades?

I doubt even Link carried up to 10 weapons, although I guess that might come close. Even so, you couldn't map all of them to be used at the same time, you had to make choices to what was mapped on a button.

You forgot the #1 pet peeve, although it has nothing to do with the actual video: the ads! They popup and cover 1/4th of the video! Even if you close it, they come back later on half the time...
I really wish Joystiq would come up with a different video player. Maybe add a space below the video for ads? Then maybe i wouldn't be so quick to close them, maybe actually read them for a change.

Turoke had 10 weapons. One was a grenade launcher, another one was a nuke launcher.

I actually didn't connect the bubble bobble reference. I thought he was describing the way the enemy flails as bubble bobbling.
Two more to make up for it:
He says Sci-fi-y. Isn't Sci-Fi already a descriptor?
"Finding these, like, fun combos I think is gonna be really fun for people." I think you might be onto something!

Hmm, this looks incredibly solid. I saw the PSN Qore issue with this recently and the flight mechanics look fantastic and the animations when flying are top notch. Also, the story stuff seems interesting and well done. Nolan North does a very Uncharted-like performance here. Some environments look fantastic, others look a bit dull and muddy (thanks UE3).
I think I may get this next month if it's an 8 or so title. I hope it doesn't bomb. Lots of potential.

i want this game to be awesome- but i really am going to need a demo. they are merging a lot of different elements together and i'm afraid there is a huge margin for error.

Why do games/movie designers always design jetpacks that would burn your legs or arse off? Get those thrusters away from body parts, people!
Other than that, looks like fun.

I also hate games that say they're making old fashioned/modern day weapons, and then make them sound like goddamn pea-shooters. Anyone who has been to a firing range knows that 9/10ths of game gun sounds are way way off.
Nothing quite like the sound of a butch gun squirting hot lead all over your enemies face... Don't worry, I'll keep taking the tablets.
