Speaking to Gamasutra, Blizzard's J. Allen Brack said the company will "definitely" return to console game development ... "at some point." Brack dismissed criticism that Blizzard is "anti-console," assuring that the developer simply wants to make "the right game for the right platform." He elaborated that StarCraft II will be "a better game" on PC than it would on consoles -- something StarCraft 64 players can probably attest to.
Still, Brack noted that Blizzard is "a company of gamers." "We will definitely work on a console game at some point. I have no doubt about that." This is a statement we've heard from Blizzard before, previously from COO Paul Sams and specifically in regard to Diablo III. Of all the known games coming down the pipe from the studio, Diablo III certainly seems to fit the console mold the closest.
Then again, StarCraft: Ghost was never officially canceled, right? Right?!

A console version of WoW would be good. The tech to get it working on all 3 platforms works and just force a mouse and keyboard to use it.

I'd love to Blizzard bring some of their polish and design to the consoles. Diablo III vs. friends on XBLA would be a blast, if the game could be fit to console controls. And I'm still intrigued with the canned Starcraft Ghost idea. Today's consoles might be able to meet whatever ambitious goals couldn't be met with that game when they tried to make it in the last generation.

Honestly, Blizzard hasn't made a game I really liked since Starcraft. I'm getting less and less interested in everything they do. Starcraft 2 is even losing my interest with it's lack of proper lan support and one game for the price of 3. Whether their new games come to console or pc, I'm probably going to pass.

This is pretty much THE philosophy to stick with if I were ever to get into game development.
Make a game FOR the PLATFORM it makes most SENSE. This is why I think it's just stupid to port RTS games to consoles or a game which needs to get everything condensed into radial menus and more radial menus and more radial menus.
There's always going to be some sort of compromise and it usually never proves advantageous if they had just stuck with developing for a single platform. I'm not anti-console. Complete opposite. But, I am anti-ports-which-result-in-compromises-which-may-not-have-been-part-of-the-original-design. Borderlands, for instance, probably should have stayed on consoles considering you have to adjust the god damn FOV via the ini files and the vast majority of menus are all geared towards a dual analog stick design (I can't even remember the last time I had to use pg down/pg up in a game to scroll text).
Oh, and what the hell is with this ridiculous notion that PC gamers have to spend an exaggerated amount of money PER YEAR just to stick with the latest games? That's just retarded. As long as you actually research the components a single PC you build (or custom order) can easily last you for 5 years+ playing THE LATEST GAMES (emphasis on latest) at medium-high to high graphic settings. It's only when there's a HUGE leap in technology (kinda like consoles every 3 to 5 years) when a huge new investment would become financially viable (like the leap from dual-cores to the new i7s etc. etc.?). Plus, who only uses their PC for gaming, anyway? What're you reading Joystiq on? I imagine the ridiculous notion of having to buy a new PC for every new game that comes out are probably the people who go bargain hunting for some pre-built pre-configured HP or Acer from Best Buy.
Hell, even the new video cards that come out. Sure, they're $500 or $600 at release. But wait just a single year and you're going to see some MASSIVE price drops like in the 50% to 75% region. And that tech will last you quite some time.
So, to bring it all in... I hope whatever Blizzard does in the future they keep things designed to a specific platform. Their RTS games can totally stay on PC and WoW as well since, well, anyone who played WoW can attest it would make no sense on a console which lacks keyboard/mouse support. But, if they make a MMO JUST for consoles or games like StarCraft: Ghost which would make sense on a console then 100% behind that.
I think a great example of this is EVE Online & the Dust FPS/tactical thingy coming out on consoles. Same game universe but two distinct games geared towards their respective mediums.

Thank you Phix, for your very insightful and intelligent comment. Thank you! There are a lot of misconceptions of PC gaming that need to be cleared up with the console fanboys. They get tired of hearing the PS3 has no games and 360 still has RROD, PC gamers get sick of the same arguments as well.

Everyone keeps saying that Diablo 3 should be on consoles.
If you've played Diablo 2, you know this would be nearly impossible:
-Try teleporting to a specific place with a controller
-Try detonating a specific corpse or cursing one monster out of 40 with a controller
-Try placing traps directly behind enemies with a controller
-Try hitting anything at all with arrows, with a controller
I love console gaming but the reality is that Diablo is not suited for it.

Arrows would be easy, the rest would obviously require some sort of change. Again, dungeon crawlers are not unheard of on consoles and some have done quite well (e.g. the MUA games). There would just need to be some adjustments for how some specific spells/skills work. Maybe it wouldn't be a perfect port, but that doesn't mean it would't a good port.

Also keep in mind that by the time this launches all the systems will have their motion controls in place, thus providing even more control options. And as I pointed out above, the timing of the release of Diablo III may put it close to the next generation of consoles, and who knows what they'll have. Plus they could also simply include a mouse control option while players with controllers simply have to make do with a few compromises in their controls. This would likely be easy to get Sony to agree to and MS surely would given how huge DIII is going to be.
Really, you guys that are just claiming it won't work aren't really thinking very deeply into the issue... despite that some of you (mostly the guys just below this post) are claiming the opposite is true.

I highly doubt anyone is going to use motion control for a game like Diablo III which is entirely based on a single repetitive motion (clicking) for pretty much everything.
Plus, how many PS3 owners actually have a mouse and keyboard? How many console players would even WANT a mouse and keyboard on their lap?
Some people just want to sit back on their couch or whatever with a single wireless controlelr in their hand and go at it. I sincerely doubt someone would look into pulling up a table, or putting it in their lap, or finding a flat surface for their mouse.
I'm not entirely against Diablo III coming out on console. I don't really care about exclusivity (zomg must keep on PC to maintain PC purity zomg!!!) but I just can't wrap my head around the control scheme on a controller.
ALTHOUGH, Champions of Norrath on the PS2 did work (I think. I don't really remember. I didn't buy it.) so, hey, it's not IMPOSSIBLE by any means.

Sure, I doubt the majority would use that option, but it's an option that should be easy to include for those that simply don't want to use a controller for a game like DIII. As for motion controls, I'm just saying that opens up more possibilities. Hard to say what all will be possible yet since I don't know what Sony or MS have planned. Although not an actual motion control, if Sony or MS' plans allow for an on screen cursor like the Wii's Wiimote, then the issues with casting spells at specific location may be moot.
And that is likely the biggest issue that would need to be solved. Just doing something like shooting arrow is utterly easy. Doing something like selecting a specific corpse or mob could be doing via a simple radial select with one of the sticks whereby every selectable object is highlighted as you rotate the stick in a 360. It wouldn't be as fast as a mouse, but really DIII doesn't actually require spit second reactions most of the time unless you're talking about heals/buffs. It could even be combined with another scheme. For example, maybe a curse is automatically cast on the strongest mob in the direction you're facing and if you have a group of the same mob it will be cast on the closest instead.... unless you implement the radial select.
And there may be a control scheme that's better, that's just the first thing that comes to mind. I'm sure a group of paid developers could come up with something better with a bit of time. It just doesn't seem that hard to me.

people used to say that strategy games could never play on a console, but look at civilization revolution, LOTR: BFME, command and conquer, halo wars, culdcept saga, etc. the first diablo was also ported to ps1 and was very well done. it's short-sighted thinking that keeps those games off of consoles, not controllers.
and zappa: you're paraphrasing my argument to make me sound like a fanboy, couldn't be further from the truth. wanting as many people to enjoy diablo 3 as possible is considered being a fanboy now?
i'm confident that blizzard can do a strong port of diablo 3 to consoles if they want to. i'd like to play it without spending a lot of money, and blizzard would make an assload of cash. it's win-win.

Well, ok, but some things I recall from a variety of reviews, in particular C&C , were the controls were very limiting when the action became particularly hectic. Those games certianly "worked" but I wouldn't call them "perfect" for the genre.

Now wait a minute, who said it had to be perfect? The option to include KB/M or any potential use of motions/IR consoles aside, I think most people would acknowledge that use of a controller would limit the controls to at least an extent, but the way some of you talk they shouldn't even bother. And be honest here, most people just spam one or two spells over and over in Diablo anyway. Maybe some classes would be compromised more than other others, but you don't actually need mouse precision to point your Barb in one direction and hit Whirlwind or throw an ice orb in one general direction with a Sorceress. I'd argue that in most cases the issues are minimal at best.

I personally think Blizzard and Diablo III would have the clout to force MS to allow it as well. I also think that if there are really concerns that console might not have the horsepower to run the game properly then they can just port it to the next generation. We already know we're not going to see Diablo III until at least 2011. The next gen should be on the horizon by that point.
I honestly think the game could work well and be very profitable on consoles. As I said at the top, I would personally buy two copies...one for PC and one for consoles. I absolutely love the Diablo series and would love to be able to get some of my console-only friends into the game.

The reason they don't do consoles is due to their long development cycle. By the time the game is done, the console would no longer be for sale.

Diablo 1 on the PSX wasn't that bad a port, and it wasn't all concessions either.
I've played through the game on the PSX seven times with a friend in same screen couch co-op mode. Needless to say -> that was killer. Without doubt among the fondest gaming memories I have. I'd kill for D3 on xbox or ps3 with that feature.
Actually the biggest disadvantage over the PC wasn't the controls, it was the darn 8 memory blocks a single save took on the memory card! But I am sure they'll fix that in a new iteration ;)
