Left 4 Dead 2 PC gets new Steam patch, Russian subtitles

Valve's just served up a fresh update for Left 4 Dead 2 that aims to give our fellow survivors a gnawed-off leg up on the zombie horde. Most of the fixes deal with backend issues, streamlining the lobby system, and making official dedicated servers preferred when searching for team matches. The game now also has Russian subtitles for our comrades defending the Red Square (which, of course, is really a Burger Tank in the deep south). Remember: communication is paramount to winning the war against the undead.

Reduced Dedicated Server max search ping to 150 ms
Teams that prefer listen servers will no longer be matched with teams that prefer dedicated servers
Official dedicated servers are now preferred when searching for team matches
More populous lobbies are now preferred over less populous ones when searching for games
Players who crash or have failed to load are no longer banned if they have been kicked
Update Russian subtitles
Fixed not being able to interlink teams in team-on-team mode
Fixed not being able to properly migrate team lobby after team leader would leave the lobby
Fixed not being able to invite friends if player was not team leader in a team-on-team game

Could they patch in a little discretion with kicking players?

There has been an instant in almost (and i'm serious) every match of VS or campaign that some asshat votes to kick me multiple times throughout a game. Often they just don't like my name, or if I had a bad spawn and was wasted by the other team, they'll instantly go into kick mode. Usually at least one other player has enough sense to NOT vote yes but god damn, there was a game where I was the best player on the team, and I was still voted to be kicked 3 different times, usually because "ur stupid" or "u suck".

Don't even get me started on hosting a lobby, starting a match and halfway I get kicked from my OWN game. I don't have a mic so its just rediculous when people say "oh ur annoying, time to kick you" and give me about 5 seconds to react, say wait a second.. and then i'm already gone.

I'd be annoyed too if the person I was playing with didn't have a mic and couldn't communicate with the team.

Granted, there are a lot of idiots online, which is why I only play L4D2 with friends. Don't have 3 friends online? Then I play something else. It's just not worth it.

Sounds like a nice gaming community there.

I have fingers, i can type. I also make regular use of the voice commands.

I stick close to my team, aside from them telling me HOW to play, and getting pissy when I prefer a sword to using two pistols (a kickable offense apparently), I am a player.

PC or 360 version? On the PC, the only people who usually get kicked are those without mics.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending the assholes who kick you for no reason. Just saying that typing isn't really effective. Most people don't even read the things people type because they're far too busy killing zombies, and unlike talking on a mic you have to stop playing for a couple seconds to type it out, which is long enough to get snagged by a smoker or a charger.

Perhaps I am spoiled on team fortress 2, a game that encourages actual team work and treats everyone as a valued asset. Mics are very useful and I don't use one but people like me just the same, for my ability to play. This whole kicking people without a mic is the first I've ever encountered and it really pisses me off that people actually can enforce their expectations and requirements onto other people with as little as two votes.

The difference is with 32 players everyone having a mic isn't necessary. As long as you're working together to push or defend it's not that big of a deal. Usually a few people will have mics and they can guide the team in the right direction.

But in L4D2 you're part of a tight, 4 person team. Communication is more important than headshots or what weapons you're using or any of that nonsense. If one person is communicating with the team there's a possibility the whole team can be let down. You need to be able to tell each other where that smoker is, what direction the tank is coming from, to turn their lights off because there's a witch right in front of them. Just get a mic, they're what, $8 pretty much everywhere? You won't get booted as much and you're teams will do better because you can actually communicate.

Why post patch notes on 12/21 for a 12/18 patch and say that it was "just served?"

Why post them at all? It's not like people need to be informed so that they can go get the patch. Steam does that automatically.

It gives the 360 players what to expect when they get patched.

Fuck them.

What's the point of reposting them here? Especially when you're 3 days late...

I needed an excuse to complain about the matchmaking and hostility toward people not on your steam friends list. :)

could of patched the issue of slow downs for the ppl that have 64-bit OS like me n my Windows 7 64-bit Home Preimum.
