EA may have just gotten the exclusive on another sports league without paying a dime. On the most recent Take-Two earnings report, the next iteration of the NHL 2K series was conspicuously absent from a list of games slated for the rest of the company's fiscal year. The exclusion, noticed by Pastapadre, has lead some to surmise that the series has been canned, a fate that befell the College Hoops 2K series last year.
At the moment, 2K spokespeople are saying only "We are currently in the process of evaluating our sports portfolio and have not announced any new NHL titles at this time." We'll let you know what we hear.

Thank god!
The season ending bugs I experienced in NHL 2k9 (it was a gift) are now avenged.

EA has been kicking their ass for a while when it comes to hockey games. Too bad since the competition they brought was the reason that EA NHL games had improved dramatically from before.

Despite the series being lackluster, this is not good.
Competition is very healthy. We need this competition so EA doesn't get lazy & screw up their NHL series.

Just as well, because EA's offering of hockey goodness is miles better than the 2K attempt.
Actually, I just hope EA doesn't rest on their laurels. NHL 10 may be a good game, but it's still a long ways away from capturing the essence of professional hockey completely.

too bad.
...only goes to show that this generation of video game consoles has totally upped the ante when it comes to developing titles. I don't know if that's good or bad, but EA has also taken its bumps despite being such a big company.
These days, making an "ok" game isn't good enough.

Even if you don't like the NHL 2K series you should care. Without competition there's less of a drive for another company, like EA, to push the envelope with their titles. Some of the early Madden games, after they landed an exclusive license with the NFL, should be all the proof you need.

This is too bad. I skipped NHL 10 because it was the same as 09. NHL 2k10 is actually pretty good. Oh well, can't have everything
