Considering the title of the article it's weird to see titles that aren't any cheaper, like Braid, as well as titles that are barely cheaper, like LBP.

I can understand those two, specifically, since Braid's a DL-only title, and LBP is made of pure unadulterated awesome.

LBP GOTY Edition is both $10 cheaper and has $30 worth o DLC built in, so put that on your lolipop and smoke it.

Am I missing somewhere in the article that states why Wii games are absent from this list?

Nope. You aren't missing anything. Brawl aside, I wouldn't put a single Wii game from 2008 up on a list this prestigious.

Because Wii first party games don't get cheap as fast as games from the other consoles.

Super Mario Galaxy was $50 when it came out in 2007, and it's nearly 2010 and the msrp is still $50. Ridiculous.

Great list. I'd have to say 2008 beats out 2009, at least for me. So many good games.

same here 2008 provided us with so many memorable games and I can't say that about 2009. This year felt flat because of all the delays, next year will be what 2009 should have been.

Exactly. And this year had some good games, mind you. MW2 is great and I liked Batman and ODST. Axel & Pixel was a marvelous hidden gem. L4D2 is solid, as is Forza. AC2 is incredible.

But there isn't much up there that really 'wowed' me. They're all great games, but they're games I've played before - though improved in their sequels. I'm hoping next year I get to sink my teeth into something that is so good I can barely handle it.

Mass Effect 2? Perhaps!

MW2, ACII, Uc2 all came out in 2009. Oh, and inFAMOUS. What about Batman: AA?

Just my 2c :)

Disclaimer: I don't yet have a PS3! I might be singing a slightly different tune, then. UC2 looks so damned good. inFAMOUS is mildly interesting to me, but only mildly.

I think 2008 may have an edge in quantity, but from a quality standpoint 2009 is just fine. MW2, Batman, and Arkham Asylum can go head-to-head with anything on the 2008 list.

A moot point anyway, since 2007 kicks both of their asses, and then takes their mom out on a cheap date.

Yes, that should be MW2, Batman, and Uncharted 2.

I think I just loved all the surprises I got from 2008. I loved every game on that list above, and look how many were fresh new IP. No remakes. No sequels. Remakes and sequels can be polished and excellent - but they don't surprise. They deliver. It's good in a different way.

WTF this was an amazing year.... Infamous, batman, uncharted 2, assassin's creed 2, ratchet and clank, fat princess, modern warfare 2, pixeljunk shooter, killzone 2... etc. I had a fresh game to play every weekend! Next year is shaping up to be pretty awesome too.

almost left out other great PSN titles this year: Flower, Bionic Commando Rearmed, and Wipeout HD Fury! 2009 was the shit.

@jerkface: some of the titles I mentioned may be sequels... but they still surprised nonetheless (well, not MW2).

Dead Space is the best game listed here, in my opinion. I had zero interest in this game until I heard people talking about it in podcasts and found it cheap (at the time) on amazon for 36 bucks shipped. I was blown away with how immersive the game was, thanks to the outstanding audio design.

I think it's below $20 on amazon now so if you haven't done so already, pick up one of the best games of this generation and play it in anticipation of the sequel!

FC2 was fun for a while, although the quick enemy respawns were pretty annoying by the end of the game.

What we said then: We can't find room for GTA4 on our top 10 list of 2008, because we have to make room for timeless classics like Mirror's Edge and Far Cry 2.

What we said now: We are still going to try and defend Mirror's Edge, rather than admit we made a mistake.

I, for one, REALLY enjoyed Mirror's Edge and thought it was trying something really exciting. I'm still impressed at how well it works.

And GTA4 bored me. A lot.

I think the majority of the staff feels similarly – if we had a top 20, it would have surely been on there, but it wasn't ranked high enough on anyone's list to crack the top 10.

I hated both of them, but then I replayed GTA4 before TLAD came out and I really loved it, much much more than FC2 and ME. Mirror's Edge felt like a proof of concept, a tech demo even that had a lot of work left. Far Cry 2 just felt unpolished, maybe there really is an incredible game under there, but im not strong enough to pickaxe through all those layers of endless driving and terrible shooting mechanics

I find Mirrors Edge better every time I play it.

GTA4 was overrated and nothing special imo. Mirrors Edge was far from perfect but it was something new and I think what it did, it did very well. Even if it was frusterating at times it's a game that stands out in my memory, while GTA is completely forgettable.

I felt bored with GTAIV as well, partially because of the absolutely horrible story. It was garbage. It felt like a chore to finish the game. That being said I did clock a silly amount of time on it when I was done with the single player, so I guess I wasn't *too* bored :P

Mirrors Edge = helplessly getting shot in the back, die, curse, and repeat. I was extremely disappointed with it.

The rest of the list is great though.

You're doing it wrong. Most of the people who didn't like Mirrors Edge were failing over and over again because they tried to play like they were Master Chief.
