I'm going to put in another pitch for on-line game trading here. By trading, I turned Fable 2 into Gears of War 2, then Modern Warfare, and finally GTA4. Not bad for $60.

Not that I'm recommending you do this, but, at least for the XBOX 360 version, if you can *borrow* the Fallout 3 GOTY edition, you can install the expansion packs to your drive and then use them with the much cheaper standard edition. Which is a big win for you.

2008 was an amazing year for gaming, especially games that gave you amazing value for your purchase.

Fallout 3, Mirror's Edge, MGS4, Gears of War 2 were all games that gave you excellent bang for your buck.

Fallout 3 especially stands out, as I found myself still playing it a year after its release, thanks in no small part to it's DLC.

Definitely my GOTY 2008.

Why oh why hasn't Nintendo started a 'Players Choice' label for Wii titles yet?!

It's looooong overdue.

Super Mario Galaxy and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess... as much as they're both worth the $50, should not still be full price.

Back to the topic: Lots of good games on that list and I still haven't finished most of the ones I own! Super behind!

Geez. And I thought Sony was slow with the Greatest Hits this generation. That really sucks. Yet another reason I won't be getting a Wii any time soon.

Was Burnout Paradise 2009 then? It feels like a long time since there was massive hype over it. Either way I see they have the full pack of it available now as well for a little cheaper so it'd been worth buying as well.

The presence of Braid on this list is stupid. The whole argument for physical media is because the price drops at retail. Download only games don't have this, as evidenced by Braid. It's a problem. Get Braid out of there and pick something else.

just watched FarCry on Netflix directed by our favorite director, Uwe Boll. PLEASE do NOT let him create FarCry2: The Movie. horrible script, horrible actors, and an extremely horrible director.

still working on Mirror's Edge--I like AC2's climbing better.

Braid may be a good game but it is also a fine example of why i don't like download games. The never come down in price. And this is the way the game industry wants it

Considering most of these games are trash I have no idea how they ended up on any list for late purchasing.

Dead Space was just mediocre after the suspense ended with the third body coming back to life and then freaking you out for a moment before you killed it.

Mirror's Edge was pretty bad with the "leap of Faith" thing going on.

Gears of War 2 was just Dom whining about his wife 90% of the time. Also chest high walls.

Far Cry 2 is, for me, a horribly boring experience and not worth anyone's time.

Fallout 3 was pretty much mundane in every way.

LittleBigPlanet seems innovative and I'd like to play it but my PS3 is having problems.

Metal Gear Solid 4 was just a movie with slight action scenes. That got boring fast especially with the whole "anti-war" message. Whatever.

Why buy Left 4 Dead when you can get the same game that will have DLC and such for it later on down the road? Of course, that is before they announce Left 4 Dead 3 in a month or so while still promising DLC support for L4D2.

Fable 2 was just empty.

The end.

Dead Space is absolutely amazing. If anyone here has not played it yet, $20 is a steal for this game. Its my wildest sci-fi wet dream: a mix of event horizon and alien sprinkled with some John Carpenter's Thing.

Rented it when it first came out, and bought it when I saw the price drop to $20. The sound in this game is crazy. I just hooked up a new surround receiver that makes it scary as hell to play.

Just thought I'd point out that Steam is having a bunch of holiday sales the rest of the month including some of the games on this list. I just bought Mirror's Edge for $5.

I find Team Fortress 2 to be a fun game. I also like the Half Life series and the Total War series. Mass Effect is okay, if not a little wordy. I haven't beaten it so I can't really give a fair view. I'm also on decent terms with Diablo II if I can ever feel like playing and, to be honest, I'm kind of liking the trial of Champions Online after making a character named Lady Hatred. Cliche? Sure. It's fun though.

Funny enough, I also like Killing Floor even if it has a few flaws. I look past that though considering I have an enjoyable time playing it since I have friends that also play it.

Last but not least, I thoroughly enjoy playing Saint's Row 2 for nothing but mindless fun. Oh, I also enjoyed Red Dead Revolver.

I don't "hate" games or anything, I just find most of them repetitive (of course anything is bound to get repetitive if you play it enough) and I even get burnt out on the games I do enjoy.

And, just because I have a different opinion doesn't actually make me a troll. Sorry.

You should reaaaally start importing. I bought these this year (either directly here in Germany or imported from the UK/Jersey):

Mirror's Edge - 8 €
Dead Space - 10 €
Far Cry 2 (Collector's Edition) - 15 €
LittleBigPlanet - 10 €
Gears of War 2 (Collector's Edition) - 18 €
Metal Gear Solid 4 - 10 €
Fallout 3 (Collector's Edition, the one with the lunchbox) - 30 €
Left 4 Dead (GOTY Edition) - 25 €
Fable II (Standard Edition) - 10 €

None of those were "Classics" or "Platinum".
