So no recommendations for World of Goo, Lostwinds (1 and 2), the other Bit Trips, NyxQuest etc or is this just games that are normally overlooked?

@Mr Mobius: Nope, I think it's just their buyer's guide to WiiWare/VC stuff that was released in 2009.

Most of the games you mentioned were released in 2008 and earlier weren't they?

Only LostWinds 1 and World of Goo were released in 2008 as far as I know. Lostwinds 2 is only a month or 2 old, and the Bit Trips have all been 2009 as far as I'm aware.

I understand that you writers have to create some form of article probably every day, but does it have to really be bad? I'd like to read a decent article and I'm slowly starting to lose interest here.

Just because it's not the Wall Street Journal means that it can't be well-written and interesting? That is one amazing strategy. "We're not them so we don't have to strive for anything."

But then what would I do with the majority of my game collection if I sell my Wii? I mean, I only have 2 PS3 games and a handful of 360 games. I know, I can use the money from selling my Wii to buy "Generic online FPS 2010. Rated M for imMature!" No thanks. I'll stick to the Wii.

and again.

and again.

Yes, it is that good.

Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VIII
Braid

Because.... you're saying there isn't a good enough catalog? Or, because you think the 'stiq is anti-PS3? What angle are you taking here, fella?

The only one I own is Critter Crunch, but by and large, to me, it seems PSN has a pretty diverse catalog. They don't have demos as often as 360, which is kind of a kick in the ass, but it's not *that* big a deal I guess.

Maybe it's just me, but I find Bit.Trip Void to be crap compared to the older ones (especially Beat, which is the best one still, in my opinion.)

Bit Trip Beat always gets 10 mins of play anytime the Wii is on. I'll rarely play it more than one level at a time because it gets stressful, but amazing game that compels to beat it. Reminds of the hardcore games of years ago (core does not equal high tech graphics and fps but equals challenging gameplay - just saying - so that the trolls don't troll me for calling a game with rubbish graphics a core game)

I recently picked up the Phantasy Star Collection for GBA and gave the original a whirl. It's a fun game if a bit campy at times and it's extremely impressive that they managed to pull off an attractive 3d dungeon crawling on the Sega Master System.

I bought two virtual console games a few years ago and haven't bought any more, nor any WiiWare nor will I get DSi stuff. The reason is simply because I am not prepared to do a rental at those prices. The downloadable content is a rental until you can move it as you upgrade/change/damage devices. It needs to belong to me and not some random device.

I have to say I kind of agree. The amounts I've been spending on VC/WiiWare/Rock Band stuff lately made me think "what happens if the console dies". I hope they can be transferred if you have a legitimate reason.

All my PS1/Dreamcast/N64 games I still have for the relevant consoles as they were on disc. Nice and easy.. nothing to worry about. But I seem to be spending more money (happily, I might add) on DLC lately.... but if my Wii died have I essentially just thrown all that money away?

Well I had the original DS phat and then the Lite which had a "water" accident and then another Lite and at some point will upgrade to a new generation DS with larger screens. Those changes are every two to three years, so the "rental" period effectively amounts to that.

On the Wii front I had to send it in for repairs when SSMB came out because the drive was having difficulty reading discs. Nintendo's policy at the time (thankfully changed since then) was that if they had to replace the console then you'd likely lose everything. My Wii is now completely out of warranty and is intermittently not outputting red any more and will likely need to be replaced. Again this means the downloaded content has amounted to 2/3 year "rentals".

What do you think will happen when the next gen Wii comes out in terms of transferring your content?

It won't. But I'm keeping my Wii.
If it does, I'll just copy over some files, but still keep my Wii.
Had too many good memories with this thing. I don't often sell my gaming stuff. .....unless it really sucks.

Oh, and I also keep several copies of my Wii's memory on SD cards, just in case.
Not all files can be transferred or copied, but so far about 80% of my Wii memory files transfer. I wouldn't mind trying to earn back that 20% lost.

...it's like the Gamecube, if I lose those files, I have other memory cards that have copies of my favorite files. I've had to re-do 4 games due to me losing memory on different consoles, and I enjoyed every minute of it.

But in terms of VC and WiiWare: Yes, it'll totally suck if I can't get them back. But I'll still try my best to purchase my favorite ones back... and then I'll have to be stingy with my money for the next few months.

I'm optimistic with my gaming purchases, always buying thinking I'll like it and keep it and it'll stay safe for good. So far, I've got a 94% success rate. I think that's pretty good.

Swords and Soldiers isn't getting any love either? Great game!

Lost Winds 2 I think is the best game on WiiWare this year, it's pretty highly rated too, (right alongside NyxQuest). Strange to not see either of those two even listed!
