So long as it doesn't include the words "carnival", "imagine", random Zs, "baby", "party", or anything similar in the title... and no licensed movie games either.

So I shouldn't even bother sending my gifts then sonicspkie? Now what the hell am I supposed to do with these 15 copies of Imagine Babiez: Carnival Party?! I spent hours wrapping them in leftover pre-order game comics too.

That's easy. Send them to the kids and relatives who have been somewhat naughty this year. Make sure you don't give them to the really bad people. Save them for those extra copies of Barbie Horse Adventures you have lying around.

No, it's a Festivus miracle! Festivus is the 23rd, Christmas is the 25th. Difference!

Yes, the robots will come up with any excuse to drink. "It's Festivus!" "It's my Botzmitza!" "I need it to fuel my power cells!"

Oh those robots and their artificial imaginations.

Also, I don't think DSG understands that carolling is supposed to be quiet, subtle and festive, not blood-curdling yelling.

I was born in September, and I rarely got video games for my birthday, so Christmas was pretty much it for me. I remember when I got my NES, the Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt cart was the only thing I had for it for 2 years.

I think I might have gotten a Game Boy before I got a new NES game.

I wouldn't be too disappointed with Super Mario Bros. & Duck Hunt. Both great games... except for that fucking dog taunting you for 2 years.

Ok, that suxed.

I had game rentals to tide me over. Played lots of Megaman, Duck Tales, Battletoads, etc. Just didn't own anything else. ;)

Coincidentally, I also used to spend a lot of my free time outside.

This is Ian from Nashville, my son's first game is ... Lego Indiana Jones on the PS3. It's by his request from a short list (Lego Batman, Mini Ninjas). I'm also going to download Revenge of the Wounded Dragons (he loves delivering the beat down and does way better with 2D games) and Chris is right downloads make kind of lousy gifts.
I have in fact introduced him to older games, by which I mean Dreamcast and PS2 games, but he's five and half so complexity of controls is the main issue after content for what I can show him.

Happy holidays everyone.

Get a DS or Wii and introduce him to 2D Mario. Or get the Wii and introduce old Sonic as well. Either way, the kid needs educated in gaming, and Mario will not have a complex control scheme (doesn't mean it'll be easy) so it'll have a good learning curve for him.

I'd say Mr. Mobius is right recommending the old Genesis Sonic games and some of the old 2D Mario games. Sonic only required the D-pad and one button to play, and Mario needed 2 (3 for Super Mario World). That would probably be a great way to teach him increasingly complex controls.

We're not buying another console, and bear in mind that I'm too old to care about Nintendo. By the time the NES came around I was already into PC gaming and the Nintendo looked really lame by comparison.
As for an education in gaming, i would introduce him to Infocom text adventures before Genesis or SNES games.

Hats off to Chris, Ludwig, and Justin for a fantastic year of shows. This holiday episode totally has me in the Christmas spirit :)

Also, Dead Space girl caroling is the best thing ever. That image (what are those called, anyhow?) is definitely one of my top 5 ever.

Thanks a bunch! I originally made it for the JPAG, when I decided that I must share it with the 'cast.

It came to me with the realization that there's no good holiday-based games anymore. There are classic holiday movies and music that people take in every year at different seasons, why not games?
