Interesting...I'm assuming we'll see XBLM and WiiWare posts later?

Fat Princess? No where on this list? Now that's disappointing. I picked up the demo of that last week and literally can not stop playing it. Great humor, classes are balanced nicely, and a crazy amount of replay value. $14.99, snag that shit.

More people need Critter Crunch, shame on Sony for not advertising it in their "PSN Favorites for Under $8" list. It's definitely the most surprising puzzle game I've played in a long time, it shouldn't be written off as a Magical Drop (or Astropop I guess...) clone. It's got some seriously deep mechanics, that take the entire single player adventure to reveal and get used to. A ton of content for $7 too, and really fun multiplayer (both co-op and vs, local and online... and practically zero latency for online games, it's a puzzle game miracle!).

PixelJunk shooter is also the bee's knees. Brilliant gem of a game, definitely Q-games most gamey PixelJunk entry... I can't stop playing it, needs the Encore expansion like yestereday!

Granger, You are dumb! Maybe you should keep up with Joystiq more often, because you would have read the article where the devs of Critter Crunch praised and thanked Sony for their ad support upon the games release. So what are you complaining about Sony for?

They've had a list on the main PlayStation store page of "PSN Favorites for under $8" right about the top PSN downloads, and Critter Crunch was curiously absent from that list. It definitely could have helped boost sales if it were included.

If we're calling each other names, you sir are dumb. You should read the last paragraph of the article you mention:

"In spite of Sony's best intentions, though, Vella notes that sales aren't quite where they should be on the PSN. 'It's still a fraction of what XBLA is doing, and we know that,' he admitted. 'But that's okay for us because they let us do what we wanted to do.' Apparently what they want to do now is work on a zombie game."

Keep in mind, this was over a month ago he said this, and this PSN list is much more recent.

Just to echo Granger, Critter Crunch is really a fantastic game. All elements of it are really polished. Absolutely fantastic presentation, more people should check it out.

This puts the Wii Shop guide to shame. Not the games, because WiiWare and VC have amazing games as well, but the fact that the writer noted the really good games, which wasn't the case with the Wii Shop Guide.

I've got mixed feelings cause they did avoid recommending NyxQuest. And the wii has the virtual console games... But the PS3 has Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for 20 dollars. Which is a metric ton of sega games vs. 8 dollars per genesis game on the Wii.

Yeah, you're right this list is soo much better than the Wii. It's just such a hearty list of good games.

Yesss! I'd love a XBL version of this. I missed out on so many great XBL games that I don't even know where to start to catch up.

As for the PSN version of Braid... Don't buy it. It's only £1.74 on Steam today (about $3?) and well... not only was it late to the PSN... The price seems to steep too. Other than that, a pretty good game.

Also, you may consider replacing something on the Old School list to make room for Final Fantasy VIII.

there is a tonne of content missing in these lists. PSN is all about quality (XBLA is about quantity).

The Last Guy
Fat Princess
Valkyria Chronicles
Bomberman Ultra
SuperstardustHD
Bionic Commando Rearmed
Warhawk

That's just off the top of my head, there are tonnes more.

The Trophy Hunter one should also have frogger. Not sure of the price, but it has 1 silver trophy and 3 gold trophies. They're pretty easy to get as well.

Also, the strategist should also have Savage Moon in it. Probably the hardest game on PSN. (Or I just suck with strategy). Still, it's a good game.

I noticed a HUGE jump in difficulty between the first and second levels, so it's not just you. I haven't played further yet.

p.s. I already bought Crush (though I think it was $9.99 in Canada); I've been waiting for it to drop in price for a long time. It's a shame I had to buy it as a download, but the price is right.

@ Mr_Ahh - While I don't disagree with you, WipEout HD is practically an HD compilation of all the best elements of Pure and Pulse, it isn't an explicitly new entry in the series.

To answer Matty's original question, It's definitely worth it if you don't mind experiencing the same content again. It's all at a great price with the Fury expansion bundle. You have to download the demo to even buy the game, so give it a spin before you buy it to see if the upgrade is worth it to you or not.

I wish Gravity Crash got more recognition. PixelJunk Shooter seems to have overshadowed it. While I'm sure Shooter lives up to its PixelJunk predecessors (I don't have it but do have Eden), Gravity Crash is still very slick, very attractive, and very unique (that is, if you play it properly and use the classic, Gravitar-like controls, not the now-ubiquitous twin-stick shooter Robotron controls). I haven't even gotten to trying out the user content generation bit, either.

And definitely, Frogger Returns, which is $5, should be in the Trophy Hunters' list.

Pffft, Hipsters only play NES's. Because it's old and ironic.

The only gift for them is a grenade to the face. Lure them to the trap with a Decemberists CD!

Before Demon Souls there was Soul Reaver on PSone. Which featured Raziel's ability to shift from the material plane to the spectral plane at will, quite a remarkable thing for the time; this transition bizarrely and beautifully affects his environment, which bends and twists as its colors warp. Other special effects, including Raziel's ghostly blade from which the game takes its title, are equally stunning!
