Rock Band Weekly: A little bit country (plus A Beatle: Rock Band in January)

Rock Band DLC is taking some time off for the holidays, with no tracks scheduled for release until December 29 on Xbox 360 and Wii, and January 7 on PS3. Take the time to reflect on the tracks you do have, and appreciate time spent with them this holiday season.

When Rock Band DLC does return, it''ll bring a seven-pack of songs from the Rock Band: Country disc, followed by a three-pack of live Paul McCartney songs from his performance at New York's Citi Field. Check the list after the break, and then you can forget about all that other garbage you've downloaded!

You aren't the only one...

Band on the Run should have been 3 good songs, but Paul was too lazy to finish any of them, so he shoved the three hooks together... I'm convinced of that.

Oh yeah, he's so lazy. He's 67 and still tours the world religiously, comes out with new albums every once in a while and he's involved with all kinds of animal rights things...

'A Day in the Life' is two distinct hooks strung together.

Does that somehow make it a lesser song because of that?

Day in the Life is an amazing song. Yes.

Band on the Run is three good songs that were never finished. Even the transitions seem tacked on (the weird woosh sounds?)

I just have higher expectations of Sir Paul. And he has written some good pop tunes. And Band on the Run has good hooks. I won't deny it. But it feels like three different songs to me. Day in the Life feels like one complete song with a big change.

It doesn't mean I hate the guy (although I admit I like John's songwriting better, and George's)

You like George's writing better? Eh, he may have been the most talented guitarist, but Paul and John were where the song writing was. Even on George's songs they helped him...Beatles-wise. Don't get me wrong though, I love most of George's songs, and a lot of his solo stuff.

All Things Must Pass is a masterpiece. The best album any of them made solo, imo.

For somebody just making a "crack", you sure are getting all defensive about it.

I do like George's songs. And I was talking particularly about his solo stuff (and John and Paul's post Beatle solo stuff in these postings). As a group, they all bounced ideas off one another and worked well together. I mean, honestly, I think that is the one thing that is lacking in Paul's solo work, for my taste, is the tempering influence of John.
You really see the change in both their work after they went solo. Paul's stuff is totally poppy, and a lot of John's stuff gets really melancholy. I just happen to prefer the direction John went (Beautiful Boy, Watching the Wheels). I don't have anything against Paul. I just feel like John's and George's work had more "meat" to it content wise. But it wasn't nearly as catchy as anything Paul did. The man can most definitely write a hook. I've never denied that.

hahaha... this isn't defensive. This is being stuck at work on Christmas Eve and trying to find something to pass the time.

Lazy? I saw him play at the O2 Arena on Tuesday and he was absolutely amazing. He doesn't NEED to tour or do gigs anymore, he has more than enough money to last him the rest of his life and then some. He tours because he WANTS to and genuinely enjoys it, something you can really see during his performance

I never said McCartney was a lazy man in general. I made a crack that he got lazy when he was writing Band on the Run and threw three incomplete songs together.

Hehehe... I still don't know whether to giggle or sigh that no one gets that distinction.

I'm surprised there were no Christmas tracks from Harmonix this year. I was disappointed with last year's selection. Only Guitar Hero and Lips had Christmas tracks.

And since they're releasing McCartney, why not release "Wonderful Christmastime?" Yes, I know a lot of people hate that track but it would have been a semi-tie in with TB:RB.

Perhaps the last pack didnt sell well. The problem with holiday tracks is that they are only good for THAT time of year. Its the reason I don't buy christmas CDs.

How is Rock Band DLC taking a break when X360 is getting songs on Tuesday, like they have for over 2 years now?

Just got the Country Pack last weekend on clearance at Target. Not my cup of tea, but for $7.50, my wife and sister liked it. It's easy to forget how fun those games are with family.
