Wow, I love the internet. I guess everyone needs a chance to shine their ignorance.
Don't mean to be overly rude but you misunderstood what I meant just a bit.
Also, I am from Canada. Moncton, NB..Maritimes.

Anyhow, I wanted to know the origins, which I just always took Boxing Day for granted and never thought why it was called that. I've seen the flyers, I know the sales and yes I've seen it all my life. I was kind of guessing Sears didn't invent boxing day and that's what I wanted to find out. Considering at some workplaces Boxing Day is a Holiday and at even fewer it's paid Holiday (for those that are lucky enough).

wow, ranty.

No. I don't think anyone but you misunderstood anything or showed their ignorance at all. I think you thought: "I had to look up the origins of boxing day! And I'm from Canada!"

But wrote:

"From Canada, and I had to Wiki to find out wtf Boxing day was."

Thanks, Xav!
I had the unfortunate chance of buying a PS3 for my brother in law who happened to receive one the day before. We'll probably pick him up a 360 now.

Don't fancy doing one for the UK as well? Boxing Day is also a big deal here. Though sales extend through the whole of January here and Boxing Day just initiates a month of the sales so people don't tend to rush out like Black Friday. It's more to encourage people to spend money after Christmas when they normally would be timid spending money after the expense of Christmas, as well as giving people an excuse to spend gift cards and money they'd have got from relatives over the holidays.

Personally I intend to repeat Christmas day. There is enough turkey left to repeat Christmas dinner, and enough desserts and snacks to last a few days, so I'll be on NSMBWii and starting Spirit Tracks (I didn't do much gaming today - I figured why miss Dr Who etc when in a few days tv will be quiet and I'll want to game).

L4D2 was being marked down 25 within a week of release.

But it is a tad harsh. I'd definitely pick it up for that price.

We have Boxing Day in Australia too, it must be a commonwealth thing.

I always thought it had to do with our boxing kangaroos being liberated from loony tunes cartoons.

Last year I stayed up all night on Christmas and then went to Best Buy at 3:30 a.m. and left with nothing (unless you quantify disappointment as something). This year I just went to Futureshop's website at 8:00 p.m. on Christmas and bought what I wanted.

I would also recommend the boxing day deals at amazon.ca. Their videogame stuff is about as cheap as the items listed in the article:

Traditionally, or originally, it used to be a day when retailers gets rid of their old stock of anything at a super low price to make way for the new stuff. It was also a day when people return gifts they didn't liked to the store and those retailers have to mark down the stuff people returned to get rid of them. In other words, "Boxing" as in door crasher, pushing around, etc.

Um...NO.

Boxing Day has nothing to do with retailers 'fighting' to get out of the red. It might SEEM that way with the current commercialization but Boxing Day existed way before the Best Buys of the world

I think the media really messed up my mind as I never thought the British aristocracy (well most of them) would never help out the poors back in those days.

Is it wrong that I wish there was a sale on Bayonetta even though it's not released for another week plus?

I hate these sales before all the games I have yet to get come out, but I'm thrilled that there are people who get to take advantage of this, if you haven't gotten most of these games yet, stop delaying!

DO IT NOW!

we're having such mild weather for winter, cloud-less skies on the west coast anyone? Then again, most of the people I know whine about snow like we're getting it just as bad as the rest of Canada.

I love snow, more than I love playing videogames.
