This past summer, we learned that Mass Effect 2 players could import save files from the previous entry in the franchise, bringing all of the decisions made in the first game into the sequel. But are decisions capable of decimating hordes of insidious, robotic invaders? No, boosted stats and abilities are -- and according to a recent forum post from BioWare Community Coordinator Chris Priestly, players who import their saves will get access to these as well.
Of course, you won't be able to play as your super-high-level Shepard when you import -- however, the higher your character's level was when you finished Mass Effect, the better bonuses your Mass Effect 2 Shepard will receive. Some of the bonuses mentioned include extra money or crafting resources when you start the game. In addition, though BioWare has said that the game won't have a "New Game Plus" option, Priestly says that multiple playthroughs with the same Shepard will be possible.

Well those carried over all your stats though, including your character level. Each game was pretty much the same basic design as the last, only with a few slight changes (not talking about story or levels, just the overall design).
So if at the end of Infection (part 1) you were level 32, you could start Mutation (part 2) as a level 32 rather than the default (level 30 if I remember right).
This sounds more like an easy way to reward people without having to include a bunch of legacy support/backwards compatibility.

yeah, that's terrible. i don't know how you're possibly going to be able to beat mass effect 2 with that. maybe you can put some skill points into fuller lips for those tough spots.

wonder if you can change your gender?
Made a female version for the first one so I could see that lesbian thing that everyone talked about so much, but I think I wanna be a dude for the second one.

So, I should definitely import my level 59 multi-millionaire Shepard?
It's funny, I had wanted BioWare to do this for KotOR III. Guess it just took a while.

New Game+ making a return is the biggest news of this to me. I loved playing a second round of the game on insane as a level 50 Vanguard, very slowly making my way to 60.
Can't believe we're down to the 1 month mark, the long 2 year wait is almost over.

Yeah, I thought they were concerned about continuity issues. I guess they take the decisions from the final playthrough with that particular character.

"... according to a recent forum post from BioWare Community Coordinator Chris Priestly" New Game Plus is making a return. My guess is that a lot of people read the article without reading the forum post. Tmac was correct in his posting.

Yeah I was wondering why I had been down voted for that. I read that post on the bioware forums when it was made a few days ago and Priestly said, plain as day, that new game+ is making a return.
Although I guess now everyone's confused by the import thing, as I noticed there's files saved by Mass Effect 1 that you cannot delete easily. It seems when you beat the game it saves it onto the system, as I saw files that I don't even have on my hard drive anymore coming up on the career list.
Hope they clear that confusion up.

I was talking about Tmac picking on me and I have looked on Google with no answer, no official answer from the developers. I just want to know if it will have the same interface as the 360 version or a new interface built for it like the 1st game did. I don't understand the hate on me.

Sorry it's just something that's been grating me for a while. Everything you say is pc this, pc that, why dont they bring dlc to pc, why are they ignoring pc, why is the pc version delayed, why did they halfass the pc port.
And why is Ashitaka here, this isn't a ps3 exclusive.

I guess you have a point Tmac, since Joystiq is primarily full of console gamers, not PC gamers. So maybe I should be commenting on a more PC-gamer centric forum or blog.
Still, there's others here who only comment on the 360/PS3/Wii/DS, etc. so why aren't you picking on them?

Besides, the PC version will probably be delayed anyway.

Because they don't say "man i wish this came to console x" every time or complain about problems usually associated with that system.
They may only comment on say, Nintendo articles but it's about the actual game and not talking about the system as a whole. I'm probably confusing everyone as I'm having a hard time articulating my point. It's not a huge deal it's just one of those small things that get annoying over time.

Funny that you are the only one to say this Tmac, but maybe the others feel that way too and your the first one to come out and say it to me. I get annoyed and grated by people here too, but I don't say anything.
I just asked a simple question and its apparent that nobody has the answer. Its not a stupid question either. With the 1st game, the PC got a new interface by Demuirge Studios, the guys that ported it to PC. But with the sequel, Bioware is working on it for PC as well. So I was just wondering if Bioware would use the same GUI for PC/360 or PC would still get a new interface.

Thanks Shadsy. I have seen PC gamers whine, myself included but I do not think PC gamers should be the only ones accused of this and console gamers are regarded as perfect.
I also feel that not all of the "whining" from PC gamers is unjustified. Don't you think things like a mandatory framerate cap are ridiculous, especially for more powerful gaming rigs? What about intentially removing mod support and dedicated servers?
I doubt you'd want PC gaming to become completely "consolized" just as console gamers don't want console gaming to become "PC-fied" what with mandatory installs, bugs, patches, firmware updates, etc affecting consoles.

I would think you'd be willing to trade Halo PC's framerate cap for the whole Custom Edition mod tool set and the large amount of extra content.
I wonder-was Gearbox incapable of recoding Halo properly?

"Finally, some technical information regarding the feature as well. If players start a New Game + after beating the game they will be able to re-use the same character import file they did for their first playthrough. Yes New Game + is making a return to Mass Effect 2!"

Do you guys really *want* to import your saves? I mean, I honestly couldn't give two shits. I have a few level 60 saves but I just don't care about this. I just wanna start fresh. This all seems so gimmicky. You can down vote me all you want, but it's just how I feel about it. I really, really do not care about the save import.
I think there's a point where these choose your path games go down way too long a winding road, and I think this is going there, much like I felt Fallout 3 did. There's something to be said for quality in linearity, and I felt ME1 had a good balance between. By multiplying ME2 by all the decisions in ME1, I just think we're gonna see a decrease in the quality of things, or your decisions are going to be irrelevant, and this whole thing really will be gimmicky. No studio has the resources to make all of these winding paths meaningful and quality.

This is a video game blog about video games in which readers comment on video games. Video games, one of the scant few art forms versatile enough to not force you down a prefabricated path. Linearity is comforting, we are all used to it (I do still love Pitfall and Sonic the Hedgehog), we've got plenty of it still flooding all entertainment markets including video games... And here we have one of those few games that isn't inherently linear, and you think that's a bad thing? I bet you love connect-the-dots coloring books.
