GameStop giving $20 credit for your crummy presents
128
Sorry, that headline is a bit misleading -- GameStop's not going to give you $20 store credit in exchange for that Family Matters-branded Snuggie. Rather, the retailer has an extensive list of good and terrible games you might have received this holiday season, which your local 'Stop will give you a Jackson's worth of credit for. The offer's running until January 10, so you've still got time to decide whether you can muster up the courage to ask Maw Maw for the gift receipt, or whether you should just cut your losses.

Hey Joystiq, I think they give you $20, IN ADDITION to your trade value, because last I checked AC2 and MW2 were valued at $29 and $26...

I scored pretty well on this Game Stop deal actually. Last Sunday, Best Buy had Fairytale Fights on sale for $19.99. It was also the last day for the Reward Zone coupon for $20 off. Between 2 Best Buy stores, I scored 17 free copies of FTF between the PS3 & 360 versions.
I then took them to Blockbuster to trade in after I had called to see if they had any new PS3 systems & to verify the trade in value. BBV gave me $22 store credit per copy, & after going to 4 different stores to trade them in, I left w/ a new 40 gig PS3 bundle w/ Spiderman 3 Bluray & Little Big Planet.
I had 2 copies left, so I traded them in yesterday @ Game Stop for the $20 off each copy, along w/ 2 other games I had. I left there w/ new sealed copies of Valkyria Chronicles & Demon's Souls.
Not a bad week for scoring a new PS3 & all of those games for $5 out of pocket, a minor amount of gas.
BTW...Demon's Souls is far better than I even imagined.
"Cool story" I know.

Grats 2 u for gaming the system.
Like, genuinely, that's pretty cool, you ended up paying what... 50 bucks for a new PS3 and a bunch of games? Sure you used up a bit of your time, but still... that's not bad.

Wow, Blockbuster still had 40GB PS3's in stock? That's unexpected.

Yeah, it was a little bit of work, but for no more time than I put into it, the trade off was more than worth it.
I was quite surprised Blockbuster still had the older PS3 systems as well. When I called them, they were like yeah we have the newer PS3 Slim's. I was like ok cool.
When I got to the first store, it was actually the 40 gig. It was fine by me though, considering that I prefered the older models. Mainly for aesthetic reasons. LBP was also one of the first games I had planned on getting when I got a PS3. Demon's Souls & Valkyria Chronicles were pretty much no-brainers.
With just those 3 games, I should be busy for quite awhile.

Does anyone know if they give you $20 when you trade in one of the select titles from the list, or do they give you $20 on top of the trade-in value? If it's the former, then it's not much of a deal, but if it's the later, then this is quite good actually.

They're knocking $20 of the price of the new product.

I'd jump on this also, but the closest store to me is about half an hour away. However if they still had anything decent, I might swing by there this week considering there is a store close to where I have a job interview tomorrow.

I took Assassin's Creed 2 in today and they wouldn't do it.
AC2 gets $30 credit but they wouldn't give me an additional $20 off something like the deal states.
They have some promo where PS3 games get an additional $5 so the most they'd give me was $35.

I'll sell on ebay before giving gamestop anything. Gamestop preys on the stupid, the plentiful stupid.

Yes, goozex has been working quite well for me. The price for buying and selling is set by the website, so it is convenient, yet still profitable. It is the midpoint between Gamestop and ebay as far as convenience and profitability goes. I highly recommend it.

You guys do realize that it doesn't drop the price of games like DJ Hero and AC2, right? and that it doesn't add to the price. Have you people even BEEN in a Gamestop before? It's like you guys bitch about stuff you don't even understand. Man.
I love how you kids bitch about the used game prices (without realizing that it's a BUSINESS and needs to make money somehow) or bitch about how it's a scam that the company protects itself from theft by opening one or two copies of the game and then puts the game in a disc sleeve until someone buys it. I
n fact, most new games will get you half of your purchase price back if you beat it and trade it in within a month.

Maw Maw huh? You know, 22 years ago, when I was born, no one ever called their grandma that. I'd like to think I started that trend.

Yes, but you see, I would be doing the preying, since I set my own price.
Being in control of your own merchandise is preferred to being told how much you can have for it, right?

That's why Best Buy is awesome.
I just took in one of my games that my relative got me from Amazon to Best Buy and said I didn't have a receipt and asked if they'd give me in-store credit for it. Sure enough, they took my info and gave me a gift card for the full amount.

Seriously? Assassins Creed 2, Borderlands, Batman: AA, plus other triple A titles that are under 6 months old.. They wouldn't give you $20 or more on those anyway?? Insane!
Posted: Jan 6th 2010 2:31AM (Unverified) said
Some of the stuff on the list is worth more than $20 and you get that amount above that. I don't know why they include those titles... most likely because you are still saving $20+ off the item you're buying and (in their eyes) might somehow encourage people to trade in newer titles. I called and know for a fact that ODST, DJ Hero, Uncharted 2, TH:Ride and a few others are worth more than $20 and you get the higher amount.

$20 in store credit, cash back would be 10% of $20.

I traded assasins creed 2 got a whopping 55 dollars "store credit" and bought batman for 5 bucks. what a steal.
Went to another gamestop and traded in borderlands got 46 for that and got the God of war collection. The guy had to call his manager cause the computer told him he owed me money in the exchange.
This deal is epic don't pass it up
Its the value of the trade-in + 20 dollars on top of that if you make a purchase right there of a title at gamestop.

Now I remember why I don't go to Gamestop. The promotion CLEARLY states "Save $20 on anything in the entire store! With the trade of one qualifying game." There is no small print saying the trade value will be $20. The way it is worded means that if you trade in one of the qualifying games, you will get $20 off any in the entire store.
The mall I live by has 2 Gamestops (one used to be EBX) so the first store never heard of the deal so they wouldn't honor it. I went to the second store and they had heard of it, but it is $20 trade in credit in their eyes. So I traded ODST for $20 off Borderlands. This is probably about the price it would be to trade in ODST without the promo. For all I know I may have LOST a dollar or two due to the promo. First trade I've done with GS in 15 years, and I have to say it will probably be at least another 15 years before I trade again.

Just to add insult to injury....I called Game Crazy and they offer $30 for Halo 3 ODST. This deal is a stinker unless you get lucky with trade in and $20 off, but most stores seem to be ok with false advertisement
