Assassin's Creed fan-made film 'Initiation' available today [update]
Update: We've added the full video after the break. Enjoy!
When the folks at The Duo Group aren't busy making short films, animations, or advertisements for various entertainment companies, they make ... short films and animations just for the fun of it. Case in point, the recent Assassin's Creed fan film "Initiation," which provides a prologue piece on Altair joining the assassin's guild.
Though the whole 10-minute shebang is set to be released sometime today, we can only provide the teaser still above and a preview after the break for the time being. We did, however, watch the entirety of "Initiation" this morning, and can assure you it'll be worth your time when it does finally arrive later today.
[Thanks, Graham C.]

This must've took months to make.

Is this a legetimate entry to the story? Or did they just make this ish up?
PurpleFries @ Dec 28th 2009 6:08PM
i would assume its made up.
but really, this doesnt hold any major importance in the assassins creed universe.
Its only pretaining to altair's story, and it is about how he became an assassin, which doesnt connect to the whole templar vs assassin, (SPOILER?) pieces of eden, etc.

Sweet. Now I need one for Uncharted 2....

I like me some Assassin's Creed. And that animation was awesome. Very excited for the release today.

Should be good. I wish I had played AC1 before AC2 but all my friends were like "you don't need to in order to understand the story. Besides, AC1 sucks." I wish I had listened to myself instead of them.
Granted... I do get what's going on after the fact having played AC2 but.. can't help but think I would have gotten more out of the story if I played 1. Ah well.

Weak sauce. Lame story, lame animation, should have spent the time making this learning about girls instead.

the artwork was great but the animation was downright awful
RobLink (Alex Kidd incarnate) @ Dec 28th 2009 5:37PM
Agreed. The animation was a bit janky, but the stills were fantastic.
q3c @ Dec 28th 2009 8:01PM
Indeed. I enjoyed looking at the concept-art-styled imagery, but the animation took all the magic away. I don't know when did they start animating this piece, but there have been tools in existence for the past 2-3 years that allow soft deformations on illustrations without the need to chop artwork into tiny pieces (arms, legs).
Would be served much better in an "animated comic" fashion with just camera panning over stills.
freaparn @ Dec 28th 2009 10:43PM
Yeah, the animation detracted pretty sharply from the overall viewing experience. That said, the artwork was quite nice and the voice acting was passable. I don't think finger bones are quite made of spongecake as the writers envisioned, but I'll chalk that up to artistic license.
ragetek @ Dec 29th 2009 1:42AM
they should have made it as a graphic novel or a comic, instead of animation. that would be far better imo, the animation does not do justice to the brilliant artwork style...
johnnynumber5 is powered by the cell @ Dec 28th 2009 6:39PM
I loved it. However, they should have made it more like the mgs4 & uncharted motion comics because the animations just didn't work that well at all. Still, I give an A for effort and a C for execution ... B total. Wonderful short story. I'd love to explore more of the Assassins Creed universe and mythology through novels & graphic comics.
