actually i was referring to the sega saturn, which was itself based upon the sega cd and current, at the time, technology. I know the turbo graphix had a cd add-on, and I purposely mentioned and excluded it because you could count the number of games available for it on you fingers and toes. It also didnt sell very well as the only people that know about are people that owned it, and video game nerds. There was also some obscure japanese console that used cd roms as its primary input for games, but I couldnt remember its name and it sold worse and had less games for it than the turbo cd. Your probably right about the atari 2600 though.

I'm going to agree with you on pretty much everything except for where you mention HD output. They were the first with progressive scan with the vga box for the dreamcast, but that's still SD output because it's still at 480p. Just because it supported VGA doesn't mean it supported HD, there's a difference.

Nothing to see here. Sonyboy is just another idiotic Sony fanatic. If anything, the 12 year old Sony fanboys on this site were created from the Playstation 3, and waiting 3 years before they got fed a bone.

Sony fanatics love proving my points. Thanks, an continue down the road of idiocy, ignorance, and fanaticism.

Isn't it funny seing one person going around and doing nothing but mud slinging and trolling because he himself is a butt hurt fanboy? If he isn't careful he will be banned because he is really pushing the boundaries ... even for the laissez faire Joystiq banning policy.

At the end of the day the 360 redefined gaming as a social platform - I think that's why it was chosen by Endgadget

I think the Wii did more than the 360 in that regard.

Johnny the wii didnt do shit for social. What it did (and does) is trick people into thinking its a social thing, exists in such a manner for maybe a month, and then sits in a corner. I know 5 people that have Wii's. 4 of those people also have 360s. The people with 360s use them at least every week. 2 of those people (my friends) havent used their wiis since about 1/2 a year after SSBB came out. one of them used it for about 2 weeks and never used it again. the fourth uses it on average once every 2 months.

The wii has has shit online play. The xbox is a far more social event than the wii is, despite what the average person may think. I dont think that my Monopoly board is a more social tool than my computer because its a multiplayer game, because my computer is connected ot the internet which is a far more social means than needing to have people physically present to play with them. The Wiis lack of anything even close to a decent online component cripples it and insures that it will never in its lifetime become a more social platform than something like the 360 which is connected to an online community of 10 million people, in addition to having 4 player such as the wii.

No, Johnny - I disagree. To clarify, XB Live redefined gaming as a social platform. For the first time gamers en masse could connect to each other, communicate, and see what their friends were doing game wise (gamertag/gamerscore). Obviously the original Xbox started Live and Halo 2 really got things going for it but with the 360 Live just skyrocketed in popularity along with all the features gamers now expect.

The Wii is of course a huge success but I can't see how it redefined gaming as a social platform.

Dreamcast had ONLINE before PS2. Sega had motion controls before all of them with motion ring. Buzz! had a gameshow like controller good for it. Don't care about Singstar.

It had the largest library and 9 out of 10 where spit shined turds and sequels. Of the "BEST" line up came in the end of the generation and yes they where fantastic games. I will even say are the games that made the console as good as it was.

Gameboy actually introduced gaming to the casuals, and games where already "popular" if anything it's this generation of console that has brought gaming to the mainstream (mainly the Wii).

Saying that PS2 may have pioneered aspects of the console market, I will not disagree. But I will disagree that Sony is the most important gaming console of the decade.

Now whatever console brings back the brain melting VR glasses from the Sega Master system is going to win the next decade. Let's go Atari, you should make another console. Add more fuel to the online battle of "Who is better then who"

:D

The 360 proved a console could be the 2nd best selling console in only one part of the world while also being the most unreliable in history and still make a top ten list of the decade because geeks have a great ability to ignore reality and get lost in their own world.

Or maybe the system and features were so great that gamers kept coming back to it.

Maybe they're ignoring reality, but maybe they just had so much damn fun on their 360's that it outweighed the woes of hardware failures? I own a 360, a PS3, and a Wii. My 360 has failed on me once, but that doesn't change that I've had more fun on the 360 than I have on the other two.

Well, that's not true.

Because you had it sent in for repairs, you've actually had less fun on the one you got back. At least when compared to the one you sent in.

Either way, the PS3 and Wii have no interrupted your fun time by failing on you.

@Wiizer.

If you're going to argue like that then here you go. With my old 360 I had more fun than on the PS3 and Wii combined. With my replaced 360 I've also had more fun on my Wii and 360 combined. Yea, I was without it for two weeks, bummer. But it's been two years since the last game on the Wii I actually thought was worth buying, and there wasn't anything on the PS3 that I was interested in until recent releases like Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2. Meanwhile I've enjoyed a steady stream of games I like on the 360 since 2006, and the online keeps me coming back for more. A two weeks where I can't play games on a great system with tons of games. is far less annoying than the two years it's been since I've bought a Wii game. Don't get me wrong, I love the wii and the PS3, and they both have some fantastic games. But the 360 has given me a lot more fun times this generation, and it doesn't look like that's changing anytime soon.

Wow this decade has gone by sort of fast haha. But wow I can remember when the 360 first launched, and they had Elijah Woods host one of their promotions on MTV

Ok, yeah it's good that they cover the RROD. But they don't cover other stuff that should be.
For example, my friend got the E73 error and phoned in. They told him that E74 was only covered for free.
He kept shoving a qtip into the fan until he finally got E74 to show up lol

Haha, I've only read two pages of this total bullshit but can all of you shut the fuck up about this "Sony fanboy/Microsoft fanboy" bullshit? It's positively stupid as fuck to read about how someone disagrees with an opinion or company simply because they suck the dick of another.

Many say PS2 help setup the decade, no not really. The Dreamcast, released at the corner of the last decade was the first to introduce us to 128-bit gaming and online, and the PlayStation 2 and Xbox followed it's footsteps.

But Xbox took it to the next level with Xbox 360 and streamlined the online gaming service, and introducing many new shop features to make the console the central game and entertainment system to have in your home.

The popularity and massive sells of the PS2 opened up the market for consoles now days!
So STFU engadget.... they even gave honers to a RAZR :S
