Darth, didn't you pick Killzone 2 as your GOTY?

Maybe you should just agree to disagree and move on. I'm not sure that puts you in a position to slam people who buy and enjoy MW2.

A lot of people enjoyed Killzone 2. It was a compromise for me, as I couldn't decide between Uncharted 2 and Dragon Age.

If MW2 was actually a game that deserved these sales, I'd be happier.

Yeah, but KZ2 didn't promise the moon and fail to deliver it. I'm saddened by games like Uncharted 2 and Dragon Age getting a pass because console gamers can't see MW2 for what it is: a failure.

Yes but I would argue that KZ2 also didn't deliver on what it promised. It was hailed as another 'saviour' of the PS3 and was a grey mediocre shooter.

But Halo 3 was better than Halo 2 in every possible way. Let me know when CoD has online integration as deep as Halo, or a brilliant map editor, Saved Films and the File Share/Theater system.

A shooter doesn't need any of that. Looks like they were more worried about useless shit than making a good game.

Because Darth felt it necessary to trash MW2 again, and he's a huge halo fanboy so since that game's a real piece of shit I figured I'd chip in. Killzone's a decent game too so I couldn't trash that.

"Yeah, but KZ2 didn't promise the moon"

I am trying to remember a more ridiculous, overhyped farce this decade than the Killzone 2 E3 trailer. The one where both Sony and Guerilla lied to our faces and said that supercomputer renders were actual in-game footage.

I would say that KZ2 promised quite a bit.

I don't know why anyone bothered to try explaining the merrits of MW2 to Bradworst anymore. He hasn't played it, he hasn't even considered it, he still bitches about bugs long since fixed... It's fairly obvious that he's sold on hating it.

So just give up while you're ahead, the whole argument is going to be the lot of you making good points, and him repeating "Wellllll no because it's such a FAILURE ahbagahbh".

You guys need to stop ganging up on Bradwart lol.

Lets be honest, MW2 isnt the OMGSHAMWOWBBQ game we all thought it would be. So in that sense he has a point. And if you look past the shoddy (IMO) controls, Killzone 2 was pretty damn amazing.

While MW2 had a story that was all cobbled together to bring together shocking events, and thus made little sense and had little impact, the rest of the game's aspects were pretty darn solid I thought. So what about it was so mediocre? (or is the story the issue?)

Not just the story, they hardly did anything remotely different over MW. The multiplayer felt exactly the same. Spec Ops wasn't the killer mode everyone predicted, and the game was just a mess.

Yeah the story was pretty terrible and made little sense. Most of the problem was the means in which it was told, via dry elaboration set to cool looking maps and other such nonsense. But if you're playing a shooter for it's deep involving story, you're dumb as bricks.

Speaking of which I guess the only thing I really liked about Halo was Cortana, she was p. good lookin

Why would it be 'dumb' to expect a good story? Call of Duty 4 had a great story. Even World at War's story was pretty good. Halo's story is good, and so is Killzone 2's.

I may have missed some previous MW2 flaming by Darth or something, but honestly I have to agree. I think KZ2 was a good game, Halo 3 was a good game and MW2 is a good game. Out of the three however I think KZ2 was the only one which deserved the sales it got and honestly I think it deserved more. Halo 3 definitelly didn't deserve the 8 mil or so it got. Really, I find all three rather bland compared to things like Uncharted, HL2, Bioshock etc. None of them (the shooters) grabbed me at all. I haven't played KZ2 online, so I can't comment on that, but I have played Halo and MW2 online.

MW2 I find unballanced to shit towards the experienced players - I don't know if I'm alone in feeling this, but can someone tell me how it's ballanced to give better guns to more experienced players? Coming in late to the party for example puts you at an instant disadvantage due to lack of experience, so how is making said inexperienced player do less damage etc a good thing? I have only played it breifly so maybe I've missed something.

Halo 3 has no glaring faults as far as I'm concerned, it just doesn't have that much good in it either. It's not bad, but not OMGAWSOME!!!1! either.

I think all games should have video capturing like Halo 3. That was one reason I stayed with it. Forge can be tons of fun, and custom games are a blast with good maps.

@Copa

Guerilla Games actually delivered what they set out to do and in some cases exceeded what was promosied. Modern Warfare over promised and under delivered more than any game in recent memory or maybe even ever if it weren't for Peter Molyneaux and his Fable series.

Lense of Truth (of all places) even said that KZ2 has set a new standard for graphics, lighting, particles, explosions, etc etc ... thats high praise especially coming from those guys.

Example: http://www.lensoftruth.com/?p=4192
"Killzone 2 delivers a visual masterpiece with unparalleled graphics setting the new bar for this generation. Considering that this comparison was based of the Killzone 2 demo the retail version will only guarantee that Killzone 2 reins supreme amongst the industries best. The only question remaining is “Does it look better than Killzone 2″?

"Killzone 2 raises the bar again for interactivity from player’s bullets with objects in the world. Each round fired from your rifle interacts differently depending on the material the bullets collides with. For example shooting a concrete wall would expel volumetric smoke trails while leaving behind a creator filled wall actual making the player feel like his/her actions really affect the look and feel of the environment. Also bullets that penetrate enemies utilize a hit response system by combining motion captured animations with physics impulses to create death animations and hit responses with very convincing weight and presence."

Meanwhile if you compare MW 1 to MW 2 they are nearly identical.
http://www.cynamite.de/_misc/galleries/detail.cfm?pk=2639&fk=129719&opv=gal&page=1&order=&aid=0

Compare that to the advancements made from UC1 to UC2 and it really shows that IW basically used the same engine with very little in terms of advancement:

Leave it to a fanatical Sony fanboy to say Killzone 2 did something innovative. It pretty much is a gray version of every other shooter out there. Sure it is a good game, but all you fanatical Sony fantards continue to hype of a mediocre shooter at best because of its exclusivity.

Johnnyboy doesn't dissapoint, bringing Sony PR in his comments. Instead of his opinion, he tries to prove his point by using other people's opinions on the matter. Disagree with him, and he will resort to personal attacks. Like always, he brings up what matters least in a video game: graphics. Like they matter at all.

Continue being Sony's bitch you shill.

Killzone delivered what it could and in effect, while good, ended up being pretty mediocre, nothing that can't be improved on and added upon later, however, it was far from innovative or a must have shooter.

Halo in my opinion is great multiplayer wise, but the plot is just nonsense to me, so many cliches, it may appeal to the typical halo fan, but to anyone outside that box, its nothing that hasn;t been seen before. Gameplay on the other hand is utterly superb, but graphics don't hold a flame next to Modern Warfare and Killzone 2.

Modern Warfare 1 was incredible in every way, though the multiplayer aspect could have made a little more original, thats not to say it wasn't fun, just wasn't very new either, nothing next to Halo 3 for example. MW2 fell sharply in storyline, but gameplay only got better. Multiplayer is a little more fun.

So there is your overview. Each game has a strong point and weak point, fanboys, stop licking company's asses.

There are two charts published, one that clumps together multiplat titles (which is better from publishers' perspectives, to see how the game is performing at all), and one that goes by individual SKU, more fun for the manufacturers, and the fanboys. The big PS360 title de jour is generally on top of the multiplat charts, while the Nintendo mainstays are usually atop the single-SKU ones.
