Here it is, folks: The moment you've all been waiting for. Team Joystiq has been scouring the list of games that came out in 2009, attempting to pick the best of the best, then present them to our readership in an enumerated fashion. Unfortunately, we got bored with that, and instead started playing 2009: The Game, which is, in fact, a game of the year 2009. We apologize for the misleading headline.
It's more or less an "avoid-these-things-lest-you-die" game flash game which takes quick, topical jabs at the year's low points. However, it's a great reminder of some of the ridiculous shenanigans we had to put up with this year. Like, remember Swine Flu? Hoo boy.

Well, let's review.
Joystiq GOTY 2006: Gears Of War
Joystiq GOTY 2006: Portal
Joystiq GOTY 2006: Fable 2
The trend is toward shorter experiences, because more of the editors actually played through those games by the time voting came around. Games that came out later in the year seem to do better, being fresh on their minds.
I can't see them going with Dragon Age (too long) or MW2 (too much trendy hate). AC2 is probably the darkhorse.
The two favorites have to be Uncharted 2 and Batman, with the best money on Uncharted 2.

Or Killzone 2/Demon's Souls as a compromise candidate.

Why not? Gears of War and Fable II were 360 exclusive...

It might just be me, but I`d rather see a downloadable game win GOTY for once. Both PSN and WiiWare had some amazing games through out the year...

If it is downloadable, then it would go to Shadow Complex.

A downloadable game can't and shouldn't win overall GOTY, if it does then that means that the industry was seriously awful that year. Even shadow complex, as great as it is, cannot match the scale, epic-ness, and complexity of a top notch AAA disc game.

Yea but we're talking about Glenn Beck. The guy who tried to argue that Obama is racist, the guy that advertises for gold and then simultaneously pushes it on his show, the guy that manipulates millions of morons for his own benefit.
Atleast the bomber THOUGHT he was doing the right thing, where as Glenn Beck knows he's amoral and just doesn't care.

I'm sorry, when did freedom of speech only become a right to liberals? Saying someone is a racist is a lot better than saying 'I hope his kidneys fail'... And advertising on a show is hardly amoral. That's how they make money.
Still, shut the hell up and keep politics out of it.

For once Darth is right. Even though Glenn Beck is way too radical for my tastes, too many people hate him just because he's a conservative. (Just like all the other anchors on Fox News.)

So, Candlejack, all the people saying they were hoping Rush would die in the hospital...those are 'moral' people, eh?

Darth, thats a very grey matter. Rush is undoubtebly a disease on society, so is it moral to wish him dead and society cleansed of his destructive ways or is it blatantly amoral since you're wishing someone dead.
Crimsic: What respect? I'm sorry you respected someone over the internet? What's this? Seriously, like I said. Atleast the bomber had good intentions, Glenn Beck is just greedy.

yeah Candlejack you're right, you aren't the one defending free speech and the right to have opinions, you're the one defending people trying to blow people up. Keep on keeping on you righteous crusader

Oh I'm sorry, please tell me where I stated I was against free speech? Or are you just putting words in my mouth?
But for the record, I would take a thousand misguided people with good intentions over 1 logical person with bad intentions. Those who are misguided can be taught morality, those who know what morality is and choose to avoid it are, for lack of a better word, evil.

Glenn Beck is a great man and gets the liberal progressives (of which I used to be a part of) in a whiny mood. Like all those teabagging hypocrites forgot about Olbermann's absurdity or their constant bashing of Bush (of which I was not a fan of). Party loyalists make me laugh my ass off. Republicans and democrats, you've been hoodwinked. Anyone who gets either of these parties whining like the little children that they are is a good thing in my book. I may not agree with him much, especially on foreign policy, but I like seeing people cry and complain.

Well, let's see, there's Michael Moore, Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews, Paul Begala, James Carville, Rolan Martin, Bill Maher, etc. All much worse than even Glenn Beck. Where were all of you holier-than-thou do gooders the last 8 years? So war and government expansion were only bad then, but it's all fine now? Ah, the hypocrisy of the left and the right, too, for that matter. No wonder I ditched both parties after they continued the same policies.

Glenn Beck is just a total a-hole all around, as in, deliberately ruins people's lives. Those pundits you just mentioned are just pundits. People watch them and they make money.
And this is a 2009 list. Go make your own game for the past decade that suits your fancy, sprinkles.

Many of these folks and organizations deserved to have their lives ruined for unjust practices and absurd views. ACORN? Check. They've been pushing an agenda along with many other community organizations, which all fit under the same tree, for social change in this continue to change its entire foundation. At its root, the idea of community organizing is a good one, but sadly, they've got in bed with corruption, and much like politicians, have screwed up the once good view of it.
And people like Van Jones? A complete loon, who should not hold any form of power.
But let's be honest, he didn't "ruin" these peoples lives, he just got them out of the "spotlight", for better or worse. Without Glenn Beck, Obama's #'s would continue to plummet if he kept these loons in his administration in some capacity, be it as one of the many nutty czars or whatever. I mean, why the hell do we have a nut in there that believes in population control through water sterilization? That's screwed up, period. John Holdren cowrote a book on this called Ecoscience.
I find the men in power far more scary than some opinion show. Many of you need to get your priorities straight.

Well at least Michael Moore and Bill Maher have come out with rather amusing documentaries. They may not be spreading 100% scientific or historical truths, but they are entertaining at least.
Also, you're completely missing the fact that this flash game also has balloon boy, Tiger Woods, swine flu, and quite a few other things from 2009. Glenn Beck is just one small portion of the overall game. Even at that he's included just for parody like all the rest of them. I highly doubt the creator put him in for some political agenda he's trying to spread.
Just relax and enjoy what's been made, and if you find it boring or tasteless, then just move on and let those who do enjoy it for find it funny keep doing so.
