It's good if you can learn to look past the horrible combat, which I was able to after a few hours. A very solid game overall.

If you're able, buy Dragon Age for the PC. You will get a better overall experience.

It's the same shitty combat on the pc version, you can just access more moves because of the extra keys. The combat was made in honor of baldurs gate and the other old pc wrpgs, and all of them had that shitty D&D combat system too.

Basically, you only play Dragon Age because of the characters and the story, not the combat.

Sorry, Tmac, Dragon Age is not built off of any D&D system, due to copyright issues. It's a shame-I would have preferred d20.

The combat in the PC and Console versions is definitely not the same. In the console version you have very little control over anything that happens, in the PC version you can completely turn off the computer AI and micromanage every single thing that happens in combat, which is how I play.

Just because you don't enjoy the kind of combat that is in Dragon Age does not make it bad. It is complicated and tactical if that's how you want to play it (on the PC version) and there are plenty of people who like it that way.

Also tmac the Dragon Age system has absolutely nothing to do with D&D. Yes it is the same style of game as Baldurs Gate but the combat itself is entirely different. Hell even Baldurs Gate isn't a great representation of what traditional D&D is like. As someone who plays a 3.5e game every once a week with people from work I can tell you this from personal experience.

Basically don't listen to the crap tmac tells you, because despite what he may believe, his personal opinions are not the word of God.

Slickback and Tmac are right, I guess you guys never actually played Baldur's Gate so you aren't aware of how hilariously inaccurate it is to call DA a spiritual sequel.

See here's the difference: BG - goodgame DA - badgame

I know it's complicated but if you think about it long enough I'm prettaaaaaay prettaaaaaaaaay prettaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay sure you can figure it out.

oh and fyi guys if they couldn't make the console port worth a shit they shouldn't have fucking released it. saying PLAY IT ON PC doesn't invalidate how goddamn terrible the console versions are, and even with slightly better combat I'm sure the PC version doesn't fix the godawful dialogue and story.

hooah!

It isn't that its BAD on console (I've played it a little on the PS3) its just that its more limited. You can scroll out to overhead view on the PC, and it you are playing a class like a mage with umpteen-gazillion spells, mapping them to 1-0 on the hotbar makes the game a lot more fun imo.

PS3 has higher textures and is better in a lot of things over the 360 version, but the PS3 version has framerate issues. PC version is still the best.

I have it on the PS3 and it looks pretty darn good on my 1080p flat screen. I do agree that PC is probably a better choice if you're full on into key assigning your spells and specialized attacks.

PC>360>PS3 in terms of performance.

PS3 suffers from a really odd skip in its framerate just by walking or panning the camera. If you have a good PC, I'd just play it on that. If you have both consoles, play which controller you prefer but I'd really recommend the 360 version especially when installed it's load times are pretty fast.

The hit in visuals the 360 version takes is really moot since the game isn't much of a looker to begin with. For some reason also, the water looks much more detailed on the 360 than PS3.

Great, he asks about the PS3 version and I tell him what it's performance is like then my comment is downvoted to oblivion. Why? Is there really something false or out of place? Is the PS3 version not as skippy as many, many people have experienced?

@ryan

I have the PS3 version and I haven't noticed it being skippy, there's the odd frame rate issue but nothing that would make me go "oh that other version is superior".

People are far too picky.

What I was trying to say, is that should I buy it?

'Cos I heard so much bad mouthing about the PS3 version I felt a bit meh. I guess so did Fallout 3 but I love that game.

I only have a PS3 so I only need to know whether it runs nice, is a good game, and is worth buying. Id love to get into another RPG as much as I did with Fallout.

Any help? lol

I hope this is true. It will provide a very nice and welcome distraction from all the FF13 slobbering that will likely occur around that time, and a nice time filler while I wait for god of war 3. I hope Mass Effect 2 gets the same kind of support DA's been getting.

What do those two games have to do with each other? At least in god of war, I can actually control my character in combat and not let the computer auto attack for me. There's a reason why developers stopped using that shitty archaic battle system and went to real time battles like in Mass Effect...it's cause the old version sucked balls.

I watched my friend play a little bit of this game. He has a high-end gaming computer so I know that it's up to par to play it, but I honestly think the game looked horrible.

The character movements seem weird and out of place and the voices don't seem very synchronized. From what I've seen of the story, it also just seems to be another fantasy adventure.

I'm pretty much prepared to get downvoted for this since it's not the general consensus, but still I don't see what's so special about this game.

Modern Warfare 2 sucks.

While the general story seems a bit cliche, where Dragon Age really shines is in the characters, the world, and the choices that you make that effect both. I cannot name a single game other than perhaps the original Fallout games and Planescape: Torment that has made you choose from such morally-gray choices. Many times you choose something which you think will be for the better, only to find out later on that your choice caused the death of many.

Well, I do realize that watching someone play it isn't the same as playing it, but I was merely commenting on what I did see and didn't have any other interaction with. I don't think PLAYING it will change the graphics or the storyline, but okay, sure, I guess.

I'm sure I will end up playing it once my friend is done. He seems to enjoy it so far.

Also, Dirty, I guess I should apologize for not liking the abysmal games that have been coming out recently. Derp.

It seems like you're judging a game because it doesn't have 'teh l33t graphics' and based on a small snippet of watching someone else play. You shouldn't do that.

When I first played this game I thought it was terrible, mostly because of the combat system.

I WAS WRONG! I played this game a second time and I just loved it. The story, the characters, everything about this game was just excellent. I was even able to look past the combat system. It's one of the best Bioware games I've ever played.

It's a solid game and I look forward to seeing this game getting lots of support from Bioware.
