Too many people want to focus on the price rather than the game itself. I found it to be a very fun take on Halo's tried and true gameplay, it's really not like Halo at all aside from the always spectacular enemy AI. Firefight is easily my favorite survival-esque game to come out of the Horde and Nazi Zombie craze. Marty outdid himself with the score too. I didn't put it in my top 10, but it was only just barely edged out for me. Glad to see someone named it for Joystiq though.

Yeah, just about every review brought up the price tag.

Agreed. Even if it wasn't worth the full $60, a lot of stores had it much lower during Black Friday.

The moody music, the lighting, the new weapons (that pistol was practically like the new BR), and all the fun of exploring around the city. It may not have been a true full entry in the series, but it was in no way a let down for me.

The new musical tone is supposed to continue for Reach, though it will be slightly more bombastic. However, I was kinda worried when I heard that Marcus Lehto, the creative director, had mixed feelings about where the Reach score was going.

it was a letdown to me, even though i still very much enjoyed it, especially firefight. My biggest problem with Halo has always been how much of a story there is to the universe, but how very little is in the games. This one had so so much promise, what with hiring most of the cast of Firefly, Tricia Helfer, and the promise of a dark and moody setting. Sure the city was dark and moody but that was pretty much it, for all the talking up of the story bungie did, it was only slightly above what was in previous games, the We Are ODST trailer seemed to have more of a story than the game.

Darth, have you checked out the track that Bungie released from Reach? It's not like ODST or the main series, but you can definitely pick up elements of both. It seems a lot more...epic, I guess?

I liked you had to play differently as an ODST, bitesize story.. can't be sure about firefight.. I had no one to play it with.. unlike Horde..

If you had just put the first part, fine, but you had to slip this in

"Of course it had the branding so sheep like Brad would buy the over-priced expansion pack."

That's trolling.

Pretty sure his definition of trolling is people using words like "sheep" and "over-priced expansion pack".

You're basically saying "Of course it had the name Halo in it, so dumbasses like Bradwart would like it, even though it was in no way worth it." That is trolling. All you did was reword that to use the words branding, sheep, and over-priced.

i almost completely forgot about the multiplayer a month after it came out, which was a damn shame because aside from a great need of balancing it was great. Like Big Fat said though, it felt like just about every gun took absolutely no time to kill you, but you could blast an enemy for a while and theyd seem invincible

obviously nobody is playing RFG on PC.

Probably because everyone with Windows 7 isn't either. Unless you like playing games that run at 200% speed.

RFG is another lazy, crap port for the PC.

I completely agree with the comments about weight and tone. I'll just be more direct, the plot of the single-player campaign was a disaster.

That being said, individual moments in the campaign were completely immersive and I found the gameplay/strategy to be thoroughly addictive. I found myself playing each level again and again (except for the retarded "No Russian" scenario).

MW2 is the only first-person shooter in history that I've completed on the hardest difficulty level. I usually find single-player FPS's to have no replayability, but this was an exception.

i agree with some of the things he pointed out for MW2, though i dont believe it was a compete disappointment. Yea, the bar was set very high but its a good game non-the-less. if any part the game was a disappointment would be the campaign. The beginning was solid but towards the end was completely retarded. MP is really good in my opinion. I just wish they fix their party system. It didnt work last time and its not working now.

I wonder what "impossible scenarios" he was talking about with MW2. The game isn't that challenging on Vet. Unless you get a crap checkpoint mid reload or out in the open of a barrage of enemies.....which happens to everyone sometime.

I thought the campaign missions were fun enough. Going around the night city was kind of fun, but I've been in too many situations where you get to an area and for whatever reason the item that is supposed to trigger the mission isn't there. It happens a bunch when playing co-op. That was really disappointing.

I really wish they had embrace firefight more. More levels, more modes, and matchmaking would have made it incredible. I still really enjoy playing it with a friend, but uncharted 2's co-op has matchmaking and it works surprisingly well.

Haha, yeah... the story of MW2 is just retarded. Honestly, I bet the only people who were even affected by No Russian in the way the devs intended were a bunch of 12 year olds. Probably put down their controllers, stepped away, and shed a tear before uttering a single word under their hushed and trembling breath, "...deep..."

Everyone else, I imagine, was "Wow, uh, ok." and then finished the campaign and realized just what a waste of time No Russian was and really, why the fuck did I go to Brazil? Can someone explain that part to me? What came of that? Why was I there? I have a vague idea of why I went but, come on, it just.... ugh.

It's like they had the Wachowski brothers write it for them post-The Matrix. It's like the pacing and cohesion of The Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions. Complete trash.

Looking past that, though, hell yeah it's fun but it could have been so much more.

MW2 SPOILERS

Also, my understanding of the nuke is that Price adjusted it to explode in the upper atmosphere: that's why it takes out the International Space Station, and that's why it doesn't straight up kill everyone. It results in an EMP effect through some crap I don't understand.

Individual moments in MW2 are epic. As a whole, they make no sense.

Here's my favorite games of 2009
1. Borderlands - (360 version) really a awesome experience except for the lackluster ending... (10x as fun when playing with friends!)

2. L4D2 - (360 version) Awesome game! love the single and multiplayer modes and expert is truly challenging lol.

3. F.E.A.R. 2 - This game was a great way to start off the year and imo, the way horror games should be!

4. Halo Wars - I think alot of people forgot about this when ODST came out but I liked it more than ODST even if it wasn't developed by Bungie.

5. MW2 - I recently got this a couple days ago at target on sale and it's great like an action movie! multiplayer is really fun too... (when your winning that is)

I also loved a couple of arcade games that came out. (In no particular order)
1. Splosion man - Awesome game! I must have spent at least 2 weeks of summer on this gem.

2. Shadow Complex - Really awesome! Chair know their stuff and I expect a sequel soon.

3. Gunstar Heroes and Sonic&Knuckles - Good old school fun!

Hmmm I think that's it!

My New Year's resolution is to support more indie developers next year! =)

Where to start? How about with the (spoilers) scene where Soap pulls the fricking knife out of his chest and, dying, happens to throw it right into Shepard's eye? Or maybe the flares on the White House, pulled straight from The Rock? The Red Dawn style invasion of the US (right down to the campaign title "Wolverines!"...shall I go on?

Or how about when one crazy Brit managed to override all the safety features on a missile sub (including the two-man rule) to launch a nuke?

Or maybe you should play video games for fun, and not make up your mind about it before it gets released.

How does Master Chief fall from the sky on to earth and survive in Halo 3?

Wow, I couldn't disagree with you more on your disappointments. PixelJunk Shooter was, in my mind, absolutely amazing. One of the best downloadable games I've ever played. Sure, it's not as original as, say, Eden. But it makes up for that by being less lame than Eden. Lame in the sense of "I have to re-do this level how many times to pass?" and "I just barely missed this jump and I have to restart the whole thing?" If anything, the biggest problem I have with Shooter is how easy it is. I rarely died on any given level and the game seemed over before it had really given a true challenge.

Also, I found Rock Band: Unplugged to be an enjoyable, albeit one-time, pleasure. Maybe it's because I don't have experience with Harmonix's games prior to the first Guitar Hero, but I loved Unplugged. Okay, so the campaign is cut-n-paste (which I think was lifted more from Rock Band 2 than Rock Band 1), but for me it provided an enjoyable way to get through the (in my opinion) decent soundtrack. The only reason I didn't like the soundtrack more is because they choose waay too many songs that were already available on RB:U's older brothers; I would have rather seen more songs new to the franchise. My other disappointment with the game was the lack of multiplayer, which is the main reason I continue to play Rock Band 2, but rarely put RB:U into my PSP anymore.

Ended up being more long winded than I thought. Didn't play most of your top games, so I can't comment on those. Basically, TL;DR my opinion differs, here's why.

i completely agree with you Ben when it comes to Modern Warfare 2
while i thot it was a crazy story full of amazing action - it didnt really capture the greatness of cod4's tone in the campaign where war is basically hell
also didnt like how over the top it culd be but i love the ending with all my heart
in the ned modern warfare 2 shuld be called Almost Mission Impossible: Worst Case Scenario Warfare
altho the online was expanded times 20 which is a plus but i hate it when games only focus on just one aspect of the game - story was good but over the top, so it culd be better but then the online and spec ops was amazing lol
just my 2 cents guys...

Says the guy who resorts to childish insults. Captain of the debate team no doubt.

Nothing you listed is "impossible". How is copying The Rock and Red Dawn impossible? That doesn't even make sense. You think pulling a knife out is impossible? Or throwing it at someone is impossible? Let me guess you watched Crimson Tide and now you're an expert on submarines.

I asked for someone to cite something impossible. I didn't ask for people to cite things that might have been taken from other movies or things that are extremely difficult such as throwing a knife at someones eyes. If you think stuff like that is impossible then I recommend you avoid playing any game or watching any movie.

Not sure why I need to tell someone of your intellectual caliber. You're clearly a genius amongst us intellectual peons.
