Joystiq's Top 10 Games of 2009

Actually, it's more like Joystiq's Top 3 of 2009, followed by Joystiq's Top 7 That Were Left In The Dust By Said Top 3. We agonized over the bottom seven choices, trading positions just as we traded tantrums and highly unprofessional insinuations with each other, but nobody on the Joystiq staff could muster a reasonable argument against 2009's three best games. Probably because they were too busy being completely wrong about something in the lower seven and honestly how could you pick that game I can't believe I have to work with someone like this on a day-to-day basis.

Perhaps it's best to step away from emotion and simply focus on the facts behind our overall top 10:

I was kinda surprised Infamous made the list that high, though.

How the hell is Darth a troll? I've been here for a good year now, and regularly checked up for the last couple of months, and never has he "trolled". Tmac is a different story.
I can understand if Darth said something along the lines of, "Oh Tmac look at this lolz. Haha!!111one" but all he said Tmac would be pissed...which is usually a generally good prediction on this site.

I'm not pissed they chose Uncharted, because I expected it for over a month now. I mean, yeah I definitely disagree but it's not surprising at all.

I personally was surprised both by Killzone 2's omission, and by inFamous's inclusion. Still need to pick that one up.

That is one thing I wasn't happy about though. Infamous is a terrible terrible game, and Killzone 2 is a pretty good game. That's probably my only complaint about their list.

I hated inFamous's demo, so I let it pass by. Killzone 2 should have been included just for finally getting Sixaxis implementation right.

I just have spent so much time solving the riddles and collecting treasures, its just so addicting, I still think the boss battles lack quality

Darth, trust me the demo was a horrible way of showcasing the game, I borrowed the infamous disc from a friend and it was really great, I don't think it should be where it is on the list but it should definitely be on the list.

Don't worry - in tmac vernacular "I don't like it" = "terrible" regardless of the games' inherent quality. His opinions, like Sprinkles', can't be qualified factually.

Yeah, you can actually. I can state an opinion and support it with facts relevant to it. On the other hand you have morons stating that a game, while perhaps not to everyone's taste, is a 'pile of shit' or 'garbage'; despite the inherent quality of a game as I stated.

Example: I didn't like Psychonauts - in my opinion the game mechanics where terribly sloppy and I didn't enjoy it as a platformer needs tight control for me to get into it. Having said that I recognize the sharp writing and creative level design - but would not recommend it.

Example #2: In my opinion the sun is a spaghetti monster.

Console fanboys were childish in 2006. It's a new year so why don't we try growing up a little in 2010?

LOL, when the 360 was getting the better games (because it had a botched premature birth), it was all well on good on here to bash the PS3. Now it's PS3 owners to laugh at Xbox owners for buying a turd, we are not allowed?

It's also rather funny to watch the press change their tune. Joystiq have always been notorious PS3 haters, so watching them change their tune now they see how it's playing out is hillariious....

I consider myself a gamer, and I just got my PS3 for Christmas.

Loving Uncharted 2 and Flower, really disliking MGS4. Did that game not age well, or was it always this bad?

Joystiq says there was a clear top 3 this year, I would argue there is a clear top 4, not in any order:

Uncharted 2
Batman
Assassin's Creed 2
Modern Warfare 2

It's not politically correct around here to rank MW2 high, but when you strip away the controversy this game is as well-constructed as the other 3. After those 4, I think everything boils down to personal taste, and Joystiq's list is just fine.

I am curious how they managed to rank Dragon's Age, however, considering that as of yesterday many editors still hadn't played it.

Umm, why would you get a ps3 for about 5 games if you already have an xbox? PS3 finaly got some good games this year but still not worth it if your happy with xbox

What console you bought does not increase your personal worth, werfef. Joystiq never hated the PS3, you're just acting insecure, as if everyone was against you for purchasing a fucking hunk of plastic. "wahh, the internet was mean to me!" how can someone say did mgs4 age bad or was it always crappy... how is that possible, that game still has some of the best graphics ive seen on a ps3.

Splosion Man, Shadow Complex were excellent games.

Most of the others were multiplatform with the exception of iNfamous and Uncharted.

Uncharted is a really great new IP.

And Little King's Story!

The man speaks truth, although it is new to this generation I guess.

I loved Shadow Complex. I got 100% in that, but besides that and Modern Warfare 2, I haven't played any of those games. I got some work to do.

That number 1 spot is rightfully deserved. I LOVE the multiplayer in that game.

Really? I found the multiplayer in UC2 to be down right bad, loved the single player, but it's just a worse version of MW2 3rd person mode....
So yeah, single player is the best this year outside of Final Fantasy XIII, but it's multi was just bad.

how the hell is Demon's Souls not on this list?

Well, it was probably either due to not being accessable enough to everyone, or just not having widespread appeal.

They can't have TOO many PS3 exclusives in the top10, some XBx fanboys here will start crying....
