I bought NSMBWii with the intent to never play multiplayer. Mario 2D is not a game where I even give a glance at multiplayer. A pure platformer like Mario doesn't need anyone messing with my precision platforming.

It's called "Chris' picks" because it's his picks. There is no "worst."

Here's how:
I don't have other people to play with most of the time. So with no online multiplayer it might as well have no multiplayer at all. And if you only play single player on NSMBWii, it doesn't really add that much to what Nintendo has already sold me before.

Beatles: Rock Band and some fried chicken would be nice right about now.

@Premature

I gotta agree with you there, split screen mp is dying off and that's just plain wrong.

But to neglect online is just as wrong. There's no reason why all current generation multiplayer games shouldn't include both. It's 2010 and we have both huge LED tv's to give a fantastic splitscreen experience and fast as hell internet connections to help create great online experiences. Both should be taken advantage of. There's really no excuse for it anymore.

" We all know Nintendo's Wii Friend Code system is about as poor a multiplayer platform as one could imagine (try to imagine a more obtuse way of managing multiplayer games) but games like Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Bros. Brawl have shown that Nintendo is capable of providing a passable experience"

You have got to be kidding me! You honestly think that brawl delivered a passable experience? That was definately one of the worst online experience in the history of mankind! (Mario kart definately was passable though, I'll admit)
I really don't understand how this game could be on your dissapointment list. It is the first new wii game in our house for well over a year. And it's a heck of a lot of fun

I really hope nintendo has a new console by fall 2011 with real online and store accounts like sony and microsoft. I know they're working on a HD system with a hard drive and supposedly intel chips too.

Yea, it's one of the few good titles that's come out on the wii recently. But that doesn't give it a free pass for what it lacks. If anything that just shows how lacking the wii was lacking on the software side last year. This year looks promising, though.

@Greatsam

Batman and Assassins creed both have NO multiplayer, they are singleplayer games. The key difference between NSMBW and other titles was the multiplayer mode, and it not including online makes it seem half baked.

And maybe I'd give it some credit it it took something out of Batmans book. In Arkham Asylum you had leaderboards for each challenge room, and NSMBW could have easily added that so you can try to beat your friends times and scores and it would have added a lot to the game.

Miyamoto did mention they weren't able to add online due to the Wii not able to handle such game without latency issues. It's sucks but they didn't do it by choice. A NSMB with online would be right up there with Mario Kart in playtime.
