I would imagine if any of them supported local co-op or something they could that way but as for internet requiring it to connect to a server then no....they won't work....so any "Achievement/trophy whores" better hurry up....

Why don't companies make their own unified/universal infrastructure, where all their games run on all their servers? That way they never have to shut a game down?

Remember that EA didn't make Live enabled games until Microsoft conceded that they could run their own servers that players would have to log in.

Got to find a little humor in Madden 09 for the Xbox being shut down before Madden 07.

most likely its because Madden 07 sold more on Xbox than 09...most people had moved on to the 360 by then AND 09 was ONLY sold online for the Xbox if I remember correctly....

What?

Madden '07 was shutdown on April 2009. Madden '09 is being shutdown February 2010.

Madden '07 has been shutdown for over six months while Madden '09 has yet to be shutdown.

I don't understand your comment.

They didn't shut down the Burnout Revenge servers for 360, only for the original Xbox and PS2.

Frankly I've never been a sports fan... so the only games I have to keep worrying about buying year after year are the Pokemon titles.

As long as NHL 09 and Tiger Woods 10 are still up I'm fine. Although I still play Madden 08 and I don't see that on the list. Did they already shut it down or is it still up?

I am absolutely SHOCKED that they're shutting down Madden '09 for the Xbox 360 and PS3. It'll be shut off just 18 months after the game's release. It's still the biggest selling Madden on next-gen systems (that's right - it sold more than Madden '10).

Can't wait for the conspiracy theories to fly that this will be just to get late-season buyers of Madden '10 on board before they choke you for Madden '11.

It just amazes me . . . 18 months?! That's some kind of ridiculous.

Yeah, I'm right there with you. First they force us into buying Madden by taking NFL2K out of the picture and now, if we want to play online, we're forced to upgrade the next year?!

Fuck that shit.

So this is basically a "Fuck You!" to people who didn't deem it necessary to "upgrade" from Madden 09 to Madden 10? Nice job EA, way to get back on track at being assholes.

Pretty much. I can understand old stuff like PS2 titles, or oddball titles that didn't sell well, but to take down the servers of popular games that are only a year old is a bit much.

Uhm, I wouldn't view it that way. There's probably few to zero people playing those games online. Sure, people who own the game now have a feature removed, but really, who's going to want to play Facebreaker online, let alone, who's going to find another person that is also wanting to play Facebreaker online? I mean, come on. How much is EA wasting on these servers that aren't being used and that no one would even remember save for this announcement?

more than a year....by the time the servers shut down they will be about 18 months old.....thats a year and a half...no those people that JUST got Madden 09 for Christmas may be pissed.....but people that have had it since release should feel like they got their money's worth out of it....especially considering its a yearly game

Maybe, but a year really isn't that long a stretch of time. I mean, you can probably still get a game of Wolfenstein or MechAssault going on XBL 6 years or so after their launches (thanks to P2P instead of dedicated servers.) It may be cynical on my part, and I may be totally wrong (since I don't actually play Madden) but I think it just reinforces the fact that they want everyone to annually pay full price for a roster update.

those games you named are different games tho.....sports games are yearly and if you buy one you have to accept that....I mean its a reason why THOUSANDS of people still Play Halo 2.....sure Halo 3 has come out but numerous people prefer 2 over 3.....with a sports game that has not only improved features but an updated roster most people that buy them have moved on.....

I bet there are still quite a few people playing those games. I mean, someone brought up people getting the game for Christmas - why exclude them? That is an audience right there.

In any case, even if the numbers are down, why not just consolidate? Stick a bunch of the not-so-old games on one server. May be a bit laggier but at least the option to play those is still there.

I just don't see a point in taking down games that are not even that old.

Yeah, I am still waiting for Peter Moore to change things around.

I figured he was going to push the major release every four to five year model with paid DLC roster updates for $10/$15.

Call it Madden 2011-2015. Sell it for $60 throughout the time period and have disc and downloadalbe roster updates every season for $15. Development costs go down and revenue goes up.

Step 1. Steal underwear
Step 2.
Step 3. Profit

It is the classic business model.
