When I'm out of the house I'm typically not in situations where I'd be able to play my handhelds and when I'm home I'm too busy playing my console games to get around to my DS and PSP. Thus, taking a shit is the best time to catch a few pokemon or tackle a few Zelda dungeon rooms.

Bath time and power outages are also good opportunities.

And not putting Radiant Silvergun is just shit stupid.

What a catch all "record" that page is. That could go for anything. Treasure may have two of the very best SHMUPs, but Cave arguably has the largest library of classic SHMUPs.

Them including Gunstar Heroes is an immediate giveaway that this record is a total joke (as is their lack of Silpheed and Radiant Silvergun). If Gunstar Heroes is fair game, so is Contra and Metal Slug, and their exclusion is very disheartening.

Glancing at the list again though... Space Giraffe? Raiden IV? Great games (shut your whore mouth about Space Giraffe!), but putting them above some of the 800 bajillion 2D shooters that came before them? Space Giraffe is anything but a 2D shooter anyways, and if it were, no way in hell its better than Tempest 2000 (even though it is quite different).

This whole book is rantworthy, and I feel it totally deserves to be torn to shreds. Guinness used to be a fun little repository of "facts" that they are presenting this book is completely laughable.

You didn't read the category Space Giraffe was in did you?

Most Critically Diverse? Yes, I read that. It's also listed in the "Ten Games You Should Play In This Category" though, in the "2D Shooters" category page, and that's what I was referencing.

To be fair, Tetris hasn't had a great showing after 1999 compared to some other IPs.

Tetris just has to be Tetris to win. And apparently you didn't play Tetris DS, which is a nearly perfect version of the game.

Ikaruga's difficultly is overrated. It's a fucking amazing game, but I didn't find it as difficult as everyone said it was. The boss battles were INSANE, though.
